Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 35 – Monday

Sergio Aguero grabs a goal and assist as City return to winning ways at home to West Brom. David Silva is stretchered off with his recurring ankle injury, whilst Yaya Toure is expected back in training ahead of the weekend trip to Palace. Pablo Zabaleta and Martin Demichelis also find the net, though a strike from Graham Dorrans ensures the hosts have failed to register a shut-out in five attempts:

Aguero Steers City to Victory
Manuel Pellegrini dropped Alvaro Negredo and handed Edin Dzeko a start alongside the Argentine in a 4-4-2 formation last night. Back amongst the goals for the first time since Gameweek 23, Aguero supplied the assist for City’s opener and netted the second before being withdrawn just after the hour mark, as his manager continues to court caution with his game time. With the maximum bonus also accrued, Aguero’s display highlights the fact that, whilst he may not be given the full 90 minutes just yet, he’s more than capable of delivering the returns regardless. As doubts hang over City’s other main men, his appeal is set to rise ahead of the upcoming double as the clamour for his acquisition intensifies amongst Fantasy managers.

Silva Concern for Pellegrini
After being all but ruled out by his manager in Friday afternoon’s press conference, David Silva made a rapid recovery in time for yesterday evening’s encounter. The Spaniard’s night lasted 69 minutes before a challenge from the Baggies’ Morgan Amalfitano saw him land awkwardly on the very ankle that forced him to miss last week’s home clash against Sunderland. Stretchered from the pitch in some discomfort, there will be real question marks over Silva’s chances of making next weekend’s trip to Palace, and with Pellegrini previously admitting his playmaker is unable to feature twice within a week, many owners may be looking for an exit route.

After the game, Pellegrini rolled out an update on Silva’s situation:

“Hopefully it will be a short-term injury. It is hard to tell without the doctors giving their assessment. David played the last games with pain in his ankle. That is why it was impossible for him to play against Sunderland because after three days he can’t recover from his problem. We will see tomorrow [Wednesday] what happens with him. His injury started with a kick some weeks ago and every week he plays in the last game with pain.”

Reports suggest Yaya Toure is due be back in training tomorrow, though, with the Ivorian potentially in line for a return to action in time for Sunday’s trip to Selhurst Park, providing he can step up his recovery from a groin problem.

City Defenders in the Points
It’s five games without a clean sheet for Pellegrini’s charges after the Baggies breached Joe Hart’s goal last night. City’s defensive regulars still managed to pick up the points, though, with Pablo Zabaleta and Martin Demichelis each grabbing a goal, whilst Vincent Kompany chipped in with an assist and a single bonus point – whilst their defensive resolve has certainly lessened, owners will be content for now after last night’s returns. The same can hardly be said for Aleksandar Kolarov, though – omitted from the starting XI for the fourth time in the last six games, the Serbian was afforded a two-minute cameo just before the final whistle, thus depriving Fantasy managers of a replacement off the bench. For many, last night’s frustrating turn of events may well be the final straw.

Dorrans in the Goals Again
The Scot grabbed his side’s consolation in last night’s 3-1 defeat, taking his tally to a couple of goals in the last four fixtures. With the maximum bonus points also picked up, Dorrans’ 10-point haul was his highest of the season and suggests that, at 4.4, he could be worth considering for the upcoming double Gameweek 37 as a means to free up cash elsewhere. With upcoming home showdowns against West Ham and Stoke also still to follow, his contribution could be key for a Baggies side that had won three and drawn one of the five matches prior to last night’s defeat.

Defensive Concerns for Mel
The Baggies were without Gareth McAuley for the Etihad encounter after the Northern Ireland international picked up a calf problem in training late last week. Pepe Mel’s problems at the back continued after Liam Ridgewell sustained an ankle injury which could even keep him out for the rest of the season. Chris Brunt owners won’t be too pleased by the news that he is expected to shift into the left-back berth if Ridgewell is indeed ruled out for the weekend game against West Ham.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

            1) Who leaked the Moyes out story to the media? Was it a player or someone in management?

            2) How can Van Gaal be manager of United and Holland at the same time? Who's going to do the negotiations for the new players?

            3) Will Giggs have a shave for the Norwich game? That semi-beard things looks terrible.

              1) It's someone who has a lot of questions to answer to the stock exchange.

              2) There's absolutely no indication that Van Gaal will be the next manager, he's a favourite for the job but nothing is confirmed.

              3) He's a hairy, hairy man, I would suggest a full body wax to boost team morale.

It wasn't leaked. Journalists were asked to attend a meeting with a Manchester United official in which they were briefed that Moyes would be sacked.

So, Monday morning UK time. The Daily Mirror says that on Saturday players were telling their mates he was for the chop this week, even before the Everton game.

That's true enough, I'm just relaying the word I've heard anyways. Very unlikely a club would brief journalists and expect them to keep it quiet when it could break the rules of the Stock Exchange. In fact, briefing them at all and not announcing it or denying the rumours is extremely dodgy in the eyes of the SEC.

One of the journalists who was at the meeting was interviewed on a TV last night he said usually the official would brief them on the story but would ask them to hold it back for a few days in this case he stated that they were not requested to hold the story back that's why all the papers put it on line yesterday afternoon.

Mmmm but that can be classified as insider trading I believe? Or at least allowing for insider trading. Because United have now told people that Moyes is leaving but had not announced it to the SEC. So anyone who was at that meeting could go and invest in United and catch a lovely pay rise when they announce the sacking of Moyes (assuming it will be good for share prices).

United could be in trouble over that.

With most people set on their front line attack and a few injury's in midfield hitting teams I thought I would take a look at some midfield options till the end of the season. I have looked at 7 players from 7 different teams that I think are the best options till the end of the season:

Mata - Great Fixtures 3 Home 1 Away (NOR, SUN + HUL, sou)

Since his move to Man Utd he has been involved in 12 games scoring 3 goals, assisting 5 picking up a total of 70 points (including 10 bonus). That averages out at 5.83ppg. With Moyes's sacking we could maybe see an upturn in performances from Man Utd. With good fixtures and a DGW coming up he should be in every team for me.

Yaya - Great Fixtures 2 Home 2 Away (cpl, eve + AVL, WHM)

Injury concerns but if fit he's a must. He's been involved in 31 games this season scoring 18, assisting 5 picking up a total of 204 points (including 30 bonus). That averages out at 6.58ppg. He is an injury doubt but Man City need to win all their games to even have a chance of the title, he could be risked and should be essential for the DGW.

Johnson - Great Fixtures 3 Home 1 Away (CAR, mun + WBA, SWA)

He's been involved in 32 games this season scoring 8, assisting 5 picking up a total of 121 points (including 9 bonus). That averages out at 3.78ppg. Very poor when compared to the two players above but if he can find a purple patch like earlier in the season (where in 4 games he scored 6 goals, 2 assists picking up 51 points (6 bonus) at an average of 12.75ppg!) then he could be a great asset to have till the end of the season, especially with his DGW.

Ramsey - Good Fixtures 2 Home 1 Away (NEW, WBA, nor)

Just returning from a long layoff but has shown that he's not too rust for it with a goal and 2 assists against Hull at the weekend. He's been involved in 21 games this season scoring 9, assisting 9 picking up a total of 134 points (including 17 bonus). That averages out at 6.38ppg. No DGW like the 3 players above but has probably the best run in of the rest of the teams. With Arsenal pushing for top 4 you would hope that he wouldn't be rested.

Eriksen - Ok Fixtures 1 Home 2 Away (sto, whu, AVL)

Was in and out of the team early on in the season but has regularly picked up goals, assist and points when in the team. He's been involved in 21 games this season scoring 7, assisting 9 picking up a total of 123 points (including 20 bonus). That averages out at 5.9ppg. Sherwood has stated that his recent form has made him close to undropable and with his recent run of 5 games 4 goals, 5 assists you can see why (55 points, 11 bonus, 11ppg!)

Gerrard - Ok Fixtures 2 Home 1 Away (CHE, cpl, NEW)

He may have been playing deeper this season but that hasn't stopped Gerrard picking up the points. He's been involved in 31 games this season scoring 13, assisting 11 picking up a total of 182 points (including 25 bonus). That averages out at 5.87ppg. 10 of his 13 goals have come from the penalty spot, 2 from free kicks and 1 from open play. Add in his corner and long free kick duties then he's still got a lot of threat. Skrtel and Suarez have score numerous goals from Gerrards comers and long free kicks this season.

Lallana - Tough Fixtures 2 Home 1 Away (EVE, swa, MUN)

Probably the toughest run in of the 7 players selected. He's been involved in 35 games this season scoring 9, assisting 9 picking up a total of 170 points (including 20 bonus). That averages out at 4.86ppg. Southampton have proven they can be a match for any team this year so if Lallana can get back to somewhere near his post Christmas form he could be an option till the end of the season.

Yaya's appeal wains with Aguero back taking the pens. I'm leaving alone and keeping Nasri, who is most likely nailed with Silva injured.

True and if I hadn't just been sticking to 1 player per team Nasri would have been in there also as a v.good option.

Personally think I'm fine with just Aguero + Hart and will stay away from Yaya or Nasri.

Didn't give him because he was Scottish, it was so he would look better on the managers portrait gallery

Fergie gave the job to Moyes to stop Mourinho getting the job.
Not too long before, Jose had knocked SAF out of the Champions League.

And Mourinho wouldn't have stood for SAF being in the background, offering "advice".

No need to spend so much on a keeper Cech or Courtois.

Man U have to pay up an 8-year contract.
I expect Edward Woodward's job will be in jeopardy.
Also, Alex Ferguson will be in the dog-house for recommending his mate Davey.

A lot of heads should roll. Fergie needs to step back from being in any way involved with United aside from occasionally showing up to watch matches.

Anyone else finding on UCL making transfers isn't using the free transfers and appears you can make unlimited. Some serious flaws in it by the looks?

It won't happen but I'd love if the new United manager on seeing Rooney return a stone overweight to begin training immediately demanded a 50% pay cut for Wayney. I'm waiting for the day that a manager actually stands up to that twerp and tells him to sod off.

They could always fine him for being overweight

It would help to offset the Moyes payout
