Scout Picks

Scout Picks – Gameweek 37

The penultimate Gameweek of the season affords us the chance to load up on players with a couple of fixtures apiece. We call upon a trio of City options in the Scout Picks starting line-up as Manuel Pellegrini’s side look to step up their bid for the title, whilst United, West Brom and Sunderland also play a significant part in this week’s thinking:

Ben Foster is our keeper of choice for the double Gameweek. The West Brom number one has turned in some inspired displays in recent matches – two clean sheets, a pair of penalty saves, eight bonus points and six save points in his last six appearances suggest he’ll be key to the Baggies’ prospects as Pepe Mel takes his men to Arsenal and Sunderland.

Martin Demichelis is our preferred City defender as Manuel Pellegrini’s men travel to Everton before entertaining Villa at the Etihad. On current form, the Argentine looks the best option for attacking points – having notched twice in his last eight appearances he has now earned 4.5 points per game, comfortably more than any defensive team-mate. With Romelu Lukaku toiling and Kevin Mirallas injured for the Toffees, a shut-out at Goodison seems feasible, whilst Villa’s dire form has seen them find the net just twice in the last four.

We opt for Phil Jones at the back as United prepare for a pair of very favourable home fixtures. With Ryan Giggs determined to go on the offensive against Sunderland and Hull, the former Blackburn man’s raiding runs down the right could come to the fore as he looks to replicate last week’s assist at home to Norwich, whilst the Red Devils’ shut-out against the Canaries also suggests defensive returns may well be on the cards.

Chelsea’s home game against Norwich brings Branislav Ivanovic into the reckoning. Jose Mourinho’s side will be hurting from their midweek Champions League exit and are expected to take their frustrations out on the struggling Canaries – six clean sheets in the last seven at the Bridge indicates the Blues’ resiience, whilst Ivanovic will fancy his chances of grabbing a fourth goal of the season and condemning Neil Adams’ side to the Championship.

Back in the action last weekend after a brief groin problem, Yaya Toure’s goal, assist and maximum bonus away to Palace has triggered a huge midweek bandwagon. The Ivorian has been snapped up by more Fantasy managers than any other player over the last few days and has the highest ownership of any player with a pair of fixtures this week – Toure’s new suitors will be hoping for a repeat of his double Gameweek 31 exploits, where the free-scoring midfielder served up a 31-point haul against Fulham and United.

Five goals in his last four games sums up the form of Juan Mata. Whilst the Spaniard’s two-goal display as a second-half sub against Norwich last weekend looked enough to earn him a starting berth for United’s upcoming pair of matches, the Wayne Rooney news will surely cement his spot in Ryan Giggs’ XI for the Red Devils’ final Old Trafford fixtures of the season. Having delivered 12 and 13 points in his previous two home appearances, Mata could even be a solid captaincy pick.

West Brom’s Morgan Amalfitano is an in-form budget option for the double. Priced at a mere 4.3, the Frenchman has delivered a goal or assist in four of the Baggies last five league fixtures and has stepped up in consistency ahead of the tricky trips to Arsenal and Sunderland. The Gunners have one home clean sheet in the last five at the Emirates, whilst the Black Cats have mustered a single shut-out in their previous eight.

A goal and assist against Newcastle on Monday helped Mesut Ozil to the maximum bonus points as he returned to form with a vengeance. The German’s 14-point haul serves a timely reminder that there are plenty of in-form single Gameweek options around this week – Arsenal welcome West Brom to the Emirates knowing that a win will clinch Champions League qualification once again and with the Baggies conceding three times in three of their last five, Ozil could be set for further returns.

Sergio Aguero’s displays over the next two matches look crucial to City’s title tilt. Like Toure, his minutes are being managed by Pellegrini after time on the sidelines but a 63-minute run out against West Brom in Gameweek 35 still harvested a 12-point haul – Aguero’s Captaincy credentials took a turn for the better earlier today after the Rooney news and, with an average of 7.1 ppg thus far, he could be the man to turn to with our armbands.

Sunderland’s man of the moment Connor Wickham earns his place in our XI after bagging five goals in his last three appearances. Still available for under 5.0 and owned by only 2% of FPL managers, the youngster will hold no fear for tomorrow’s trip to United, given he put two past City and also notched at Chelsea, whilst the midweek home clash against West Brom hands him the chance to potentially seal the Black Cats’ Premier League safety for another season.

This final space was firmly reserved for Wayne Rooney but today’s press conference casts enough doubt over his minutes to force us to look elsewhere. Having scored twice in each of his last two appearances, we call upon Swansea’s in-form Wilfried Bony ahead of a home clash with Southampton – the Ivorian has fired his side to survival in recent weeks and, with the pressure now off, Garry Monk’s side will be looking to turn on the style in their final Liberty fixture of the season.

Sunderland’s Marcos Alonso warms the bench for the games against United and West Brom. Granted, a shut-out at Old Trafford may be doubtful, though the Black Cats look a strong shout to keep out West Brom at the Stadium of Light after securing a clean sheet against Cardiff in their previous home fixture. The 4.5-priced left-back has impressed going forward in recent matches and, having picked up an assist in the Gameweek 35 win at Chelsea, could be a real differential with an ownership under 1%.

Alonso’s team-mate Adam Johnson is also amongst the subs for the Black Cats’ pair of fixtures. Granted, the winger has failed to deliver the points in recent matches but his underlying stats remain relatively impressive and, priced at 6.4 and owned by only 8% of FPL managers, may prove a canny acquisition if he can rediscover the form that served up 51 points in four appearances earlier this calendar year.

Finally, we call up Shane Long for Hull’s trips to Villa and United. The winter signing produced a goal and maximum bonus in the previous weekend and, at just 5.5, looks a viable budget option as Steve Bruce’s side attempt to fire them way to safety, with the weekend visit to Villa Park looking particularly favourable.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Good to go?

    DDG
    Cahill Demichelis Evra
    Yaya Mata(c) Eriksen Ramsey
    Suarez Aguero Borini
    --------------------------------------------
    Jakupovic Mutch Chester Demel

Should I play Mutch away to Newcastle and bench Eriksen? West Ham are a better defense.

    Thanks.

Cheers mate. You're probably right about Mutch, but I'm scarred from DGW33 where a Mutch "second" sub got 16 points against Liverpool 😛

If u r so dedicated, please help me out, its night over here and its a matter of life and death.

Iam on -4 already coz i bought Rooney but he is injured.
I am 16 points ahead of my rival and I have the following option

      A. Keep Roo, Sturridge and Lallana
      B. Roo, Sturridge and Lallana out -> Aguero, Yaya and Wickham in

Please let me know what you think, I am desperate for opinions.
Ps. My rival has Aguero, Ericksen, Sturridge, Suarez, Silva, Sterling.
I have Roo, Studdidge, Suarez, Ramsy, Mata, Lallana and Nasri

        Life and death 😆

Initially I'd recommend A because you'll be wasting an FT, but then I saw that you don't have Kun and Yaya 😯 That's a huge gamble to go with in DGW37 (although you have Nasri).

Unless you can keep Roo and still get Kun in, I'd do B.

Just assume that you never had that 16 point lead. otoh, he must be taking some hits too.

            Ultimately, you can captain Kun.

Im pretty sure that he will captain Kun as well tho, I think thats why he bought him last week, maybe if I do this madness -16 transfers, I could captain YAYA for a differentiation. If you help me out get the right decision, I will find a way to get you a beer man !!!!! thanks for the advises so far

                Sorry I don't drink beers.

Capt Kun. Way too risky to captain Yaya as a differential when others will captain Kun.

so u r saying i should go ahead -16? i guess i should wait a bit more to see if any news are gonna come up in the UK in the morning.

If they say Rooney is playing, should I still sell Sturridge and Lallana for Yaya and Whickham

Studdidge seems to be in a bad shape recently, even before the injury...

OK I THINK I HAVE IT

    thoughts?

here's my team with 1 FT and 6.2m available (*'s we both have; he's ahead by 13 and did a -4):

    Speroni - Davis
    Baines - Chester - Cahill* - Ivan - Ward
    Nasri - Mata* - Eriksen* - Ramsey* - Noone
    Aguero* - Rooney - Podolski

    Davis + Noone + Rooney > DDG + Yaya + Wickham (-8)

that way next week I can downgrade Baines and do Podolski > Suarez for -4

      Adrian* - Davis
      Baines, Chester, Kosc, Burner, Chambers
      Yaya, Mata*, Ramsey, Gerrard, Colback
      Suarez*, Aguero*, Rooney*

Adrian, Baines, Gerrard, Rooney --> Mannone, Jones, Nasri, RVP ; 0.0ITB for -16

Help me out man, what do you think? its a matter of life and death !!

Iam on -4 already coz i bought Rooney but he is injured.
I am 16 points ahead of my rival and I have the following option

          A. Keep Roo, Sturridge and Lallana
          B. Roo, Sturridge and Lallana out -> Aguero, Yaya and Wickham in (-16)

Please let me know what you think, I am desperate for opinions.
Ps. My rival has Aguero, Ericksen, Sturridge, Suarez, Silva, Sterling.
I have Roo, Studdidge, Suarez, Ramsy, Mata, Lallana and Nasri

Hmmm, well i think you have a slight edge already having Sturridge the same as him, and Silve won't be overused and you have Yaya. In all honesty i'd leave it, there's only one transfer i see worth it and that's Lallana out for someone, unsure who though, maybe a west brom mid?

Rooney news i am waiting until tomorrow, i think he'll play though or have some part in the DGW, you're in good shape, wouldn't worry too much imo 🙂

Ahhh yes my mistake. The best thing to do is go with you're gut, it would be great if you could get Yaya in there though, on principle alone i'd probably just about side with taking a hit to get him, sacrificing studge and lallana. It's a tough call, but if it will make you sleep easier i say do it, why not haha 🙂

What do y'all think of a Rooney => RVP move? There are plusses and minuses for both, just don't know which one has more upside for the upcoming DGW.

On one hand, from the press reports, it sounds as if Rooney will miss the Sunderland match. RVP could then get some significant minutes in that game. RVP would be an incredible differential, if he got into the DGW matches.

On the other hand, Rooney might miss that game but Wellbeck or Chicharito get most of the minutes up top due to RVP's lack of match fitness.

Or, maybe Roons makes a "miracle" recovery and plays in both games?

    HELP!!!! 😉

If you think it's worth the gamble, then do it. RvP doesn't need 90 minutes to score a brace. If you;re less than a gambler but still feel like losing Rooney, then go Wickham like most did since he's in good form and will play 180 minutes.

    Cahill/Chester/Kompany
    Yaya/Sterling/Ramsey/Eriksen
    Aguero/Suarez/Lukaku

    Subs: Marshall/Azpi/Distin/Noone

Reckon it's worth a 4 pointer to do Jones/Vidic to Distin?

Also, reckon it's worth a shout starting Azpi over Lukaku? Lukaku in poor form but seems to do better against the bigger sides whereas i fancy Chelsea for a CS!

Went for a bit of a punt and did Baines and Rooney > RVP and Alonso -4. As I look at your team I see that you can do the exact same moves as I did though i'd get rid of Coleman over Baines, if you want to play it a bit safer You could do Coleman > Evra and if you're willing to take a hit, ship Baines out for Jones. If you're worried about Rooney I think the best two replacements are Wickham and RVP so if you opt for Wickham i'd do: Rooney and Puncheon > Yaya and Wickham -4 and then Coleman > Evra I think is worth another hit

RVP scares me a bit too but I mulled it over and decided that my realistic goal is top 1K and that i'd rather try to hit that goal then play it safe and end around 3K. I'd rather finish 5K knowing that I took some good punts that just didn't pan out than play it safe than not taking too many risks and finishing right where I anm. Obviously the ideal situation would be an RVP explosion in my case which would send my ranking shooting upwards. I think maybe you could get away with just Coleman > Evra this week without a hit, your team looks pretty good after all

    Hey Lads,

    One last question before bed.

    First sub.

    Mutch or Bertrand DGW?

Might be important if Rooney ruled out for the double

Good team. Most will have AJ in that Schurrle spot.

In my draft style league, I'm in the semi finals and not sure who to captain. My opponent captained Valencia so I need some help, here's the team:

    de Gea
    Jones - Mert - Kompany - Alonso - Azpi
    Amalfitano - Kagawa - Coutinho - Delph
    Bony

      (C) Jones or Kagawa I think, fairly certain both will outscore Valencia at any rate

Would captain Bony of those options. You look pretty decently set up though - good time for your semis to fall when you have a pretty stacked defense for it all things considered. Good luck.

Where are we at over the Rooney affair?

    A. Keep, play, don't captain - should get Hull as a minimum

    B. Sell, unlikely to play either. Replace with who?
