Spot the Differential

Spot the Differential – Gameweek 37

Our trio of overlooked alternatives are all set for a couple of fixtures in the final double Gameweek of the season. We turn to both Manchester sides for a couple of fit-again big-hitters, whilst West Brom’s summer signing from Sunderland also earns the nod as the Baggies’ bid for survival steps up:

David Silva

Passed fit by Manuel Pellegrini earlier today, the playmaker’s return may well prove decisive as City attempt to close in on the title. Prior to being stretchered off with an ongoing ankle problem in the Gameweek 35 win over West Brom, Silva had served up his best displays of the season – delivering three goals, four assists and 10 bonus points in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game over his previous six appearances.

A mass exodus has quickly seen his ownership plummet across the Fantasy games, however, with only 5% of FPL managers currently holding the 9.5-priced Spaniard ahead of City’s pair of games against Everton and Villa. Whilst there still may be some concerns over his game time, if Silva can replicate his recent form in the double, he could be a devastating differential, either as an alternative to (the 37%-owned) Yaya Toure or as part of a City midfield double-up, as Pellegrini goes on the attack in order to overtake Liverpool at the summit.

Available for 8.4 in the Sky Sports game and 5.5 in the Sun Dream Team, Silva also has a potentially decisive home clash against West Ham on the final day of the season to further his appeal.

Robin van Persie

Back in full training after a number of weeks on the sidelines with a knee injury, the United forward’s acquisition doesn’t come without risk. In his Friday morning press conference, Ryan Giggs conceded it’s uncertain whether Van Persie will be ready in time for today’s home game against Sunderland, but with a midweek showdown against Hull also on the horizon, optimism still surrounds his double Gameweek prospects.

As last week’s demolition of Norwich showed, Giggs is determined to go on the offensive after a series of negative displays under former boss David Moyes dented the Red Devils’ Fantasy assets for the vast majority of the season. With Wayne Rooney doubtful due to illness and a groin problem, Van Persie could potentially be handed the lone forward role, with Juan Mata tucked in behind – a scenario that could see him rack up the returns over his couple of fixtures. Alternatively, he may be afforded a pair of sub appearances off the bench, though even with limited game time, the Dutchman – priced at 13.5 in FPL, 10.0 in the Sky Sports game and 8.0 in the Sun Dream Team, – has the potential to deliver.

Stephane Sessegnon

Whilst West Brom boss Pepe Mel continues to chop and change his preferred lone striker in a 4-2-3-1 formation, the Benin international’s security of start in “the hole” behind in undoubted. Sessegnon has chipped in with a couple of goals in his last eight appearances but, as yesterday afternoon’s Members article alluded to, he’s been more than a little unlucky not to add to that tally.

The Baggies have struck a rich vein of form in recent weeks ahead of their trips to Arsenal and Sunderland, with two wins and a couple of draws in the last five taking them to the brink of survival. Encouragingly for Mel, his side have already drawn with the Gunners and swept aside the Black Cats this term, with Sessegnon amongst the scorers in a 3-0 win over his former club.

Available for 6.4 in FPL, 6.7 in the Sky Sports game and 3.5 in the Sun Dream Team, he may well be worth a flutter for those backing the midlands outfit to prevail.

I am captaining Mata but I have a 27 point deficit to deal with.

I think most people will go with Kun and he should have a solid DGW.

Would you want any of these players coming off the bench if Rooney does not play?

    Barkley, Ward or M. Olsson.

If not my three choices are:

    1. Rooney to any striker apart from RVP
    2. Barkley to any midfielder who costs at most 5.7M

Chasing down a 10 pt lead, rival has Yaya, I've opted to keep Rooney and ditch Mutch/Distin/Nasri for Silva/Amalfitano/Ferdinand to give me

    Mannone (Adrian)

    Zabaleta Ferdinand Rosenoir (Bardsley/Mariappa)

    Mata Silva Amalfitano Ramsey (Colback)

    Suarez Aguero (c) Rooney

    Thoughts?

    Repost:

As we get to the business end of the season and most are looking to tie up their mini leagues or improve their ranks I thought it would be worthwhile listing out some rank stats.

First up is the number of points difference between certain rank bandings:

    1 – 100 // 119pts
    100 - 1,000 // 54pts
    1,001 - 5,000 // 50pts
    5,001 - 10,000 // 24pts
    10,001 - 50,000 // 71pts
    50,001 - 100,000 // 40pts
    100,001 - 200,000 // 49pts
    200,001 - 300,000 // 36pts
    300,001 - 400,000 // 30pts
    400,001 - 500,000 // 27pts
    500,001 - 600,000 // 25pts
    600,001 - 700,000 // 24pts
    700,001 - 800,000 // 24pts
    800,001 - 900,000 // 24pts
    900,001 - 1,000,000 // 24pts

Secondly, I'm seeing a lot of points hits being taken this week. Below is a guide for how many places in current rank each 4pt hit would be worth in overall rank:

    1 – 100 // 3 places
    100 - 1,000 // 66 places
    1,001 - 5,000 // 320 places
    5,001 - 10,000 // 833 places
    10,001 - 50,000 // 2,253 places
    50,001 - 100,000 // 5,000 places
    100,001 - 200,000 // 8,163 places
    200,001 - 300,000 // 11,111 places
    300,001 - 400,000 // 13,333 places
    400,001 - 500,000 // 14,814 places
    500,001 - 600,000 // 16,000 places
    600,001 - 700,000 // 16,666 places
    700,001 - 800,000 // 16,666 places
    800,001 - 900,000 // 16,666 places
    900,001 - 1,000,000 // 16,666 places

    Good luck all 😀

There was a similar point made about the impact of point hits in the top part of the table a few months back. After building a comfortable lead in all my mini-leagues, I eased up on hits for several weeks in March and April, but I found myself getting a steady stream of 40s and 50s and gradually dropping outside the top 2k. I've taken hits again the last couple of weeks to get the likes of Ramsey and Rooney in, and I'm back up into the hundreds as a result.

In my experience the points you can miss out on as a result of shying away from the hit consistently outweigh what you save with those 4pts.

Who is likely to score best the last 3 games?

    A) Rooney (May play up front if he plays today, but The next to probably deeper behind rvp)
    B) Rvp (might not start today, but 30 min sub and 60 mins second game and at least the same the third game, on pens)

Choose one to bench from this lot: Eriksen, Ramsey, Bony, Dzeko

Couldn't decide between Yaya and Mata for the DGW and ended up bringing them both in but now I'm in a pickle with this front 8:

        Yata, Mata, Silva, Ramsey, Eriksen
        Dzeko, Bony, Wickham

Just logged on and everyone has Rooney abandonment fever. Has there been some more news since yesterday's presser?? If not I'm sticking with him, makes no sense to ditch

Unless you have some more concrete information than that in this article:

            http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/10802710/Wayne-Rooney-a-doubt-for-Sunderland-match-after-missing-Manchester-United-training-with-stomach-bug.html

I'm more inclined to believe Rooney MAY actually play the first game and will probably face Hull, and less inclined to believe your wild, spurious speculation that he will miss 3 games.

Chasing down a 10 pt lead, rival has Yaya, I'm planning to keep Rooney and ditch Mutch/Distin/Nasri for Silva/Amalfitano/Ferdinand to give me

    Mannone (Adrian)

    Zabaleta Ferdinand Rosenoir (Bardsley/Mariappa)

    Mata Silva Amalfitano Ramsey (Colback)

    Suarez Aguero (c) Rooney

    Thoughts?

    Hi guys.

How do I get Yaya into this team? Considering I have 3 city? Don't mind taking a hit or two, 0.5m ITB

    Boruc
    Zaba Alonso Azpil
    Ramsey Mata Nasri Gerrard
    Aguero Rooney Suarez

Cheers. Most people have advised Baines over the week but I can't decide. To be honest I can't see Hull getting a clean sheet so there probably won't be much in it. Maybe go with Baines in the hope of a pen?

Esbo ranks Welbeck 3rd highest (above Yaya).

Given Rooney's fitness and the fact Giggs started him last GW, is anyone tempted by Danny boy?

      Slightly.

Although, ESBO assumes that he will start both games.

It's either him or Borini for me I think.

He has a good chance of starting both don't you think? United need a bit of speed upfront.

    @TM - 19pts behind in my ML

    Him: Azpil/AJ/Coleman/Zaba
Me: Vlaar/ramsey/Alonso/Demi + Kun or Yaya

He also has one of Yaya or Kun. Not sure which one I don't know.

Will Yaya or Kun close the gap of 19 you reckon?
