The final two fixtures of the penultimate Gameweek of the 2013/14 season take place this evening. Both matches are of vital importance at either end of the table – a win for City at home to Villa would put them firmly in the driving seat to clinch the title, whilst Sunderland play host to West Brom knowing that a draw would be enough to secure both sides’ safety and relegate Norwich to the Championship, barring a mathematical miracle next weekend:

With Sergio Aguero sidelined due to a groin injury, Edin Dzeko will be hoping to continue the form that has produced three goals in his last couple of appearances, whilst Yaya Toure, David Silva and Samir Nasri could be poised to wreak havoc from midfield as Manuel Pellegrini’s men look to avenge their Gameweek 6 loss at Villa Park.

Gus Poyet will look for Connor Wickham to continue the extraordinary that has harvested five goals and a pair of assists in his last four fixtures. A fourth straight win for the Wearsiders would take them above tonight’s opponents and ensure their safety for another season, though looking at the situation near the basement, it’s clear that a draw would suit both sides. Sunderland sit on 35 points with a goal difference of -19 and West Brom are on 36 points, with goal difference of -13 – given that Norwich sit on 33 and -32 respectively, only back-to-back losses for Poyet’s side, allied with a Canaries win over Arsenal on Sunday, will feasibly save the Norfolk outfit.

Our Twitter feed carries all the news from tonight’s team sheets, while the Dugout Discussion chatroom remains open to collect your real-time reactions to this evening’s events.

    2. A little higher than i expected. Many Man city and Sunderland defenders would be the reason along with the Ivorian Beast.

  2. Going to be an interesting last week for me. I have the chance to get to 1st overall for the players who started in GW3.

Will move upto 3rd tonight, 3 points behind 2nd and 18 behind 1st.

    1. Good luck with it Rabmac. Any of the others of GW3 starters use this site do you know?

      • 1 year, 5 months ago
      1. I would imagine some of them would use this site but can't say for sure. Just in case I will guard my final team selection. 😉

        • 1 year, 5 months ago
    2. Good luck, go get them!

      • 1 year, 5 months ago
      1. Start of this GW I was on 32K and I have scored 98(-4) this GW so reckon I will be close to 20K may even be in the teens.

  3. What to do with this injury-ridden team?

    Coleman Delaney Demichelis
    Eriksen Mata YYT Ramsey
    Aguero Rooney Suarez

Maybe Rooney Ramsey and MAYBE Aguero ------> Sturridge, Gerrard, Dzeko? -8 worth it?

    • 1 year, 5 months ago
    1. Who is your 5th mid?

      • 1 year, 5 months ago

    2. I'm waiting until last minute before doing my last transfer(s).

      • 1 year, 5 months ago
      1. Same, probably Sunday morning even!

But for now, its that but is -8 even worth it in the last GW? Im protecting a lead of 14 in one and chasing a 30 in another... expectations for me are to protect the lead!!

        • 1 year, 5 months ago
        1. I'm in similar position to you mate with same injured players.

I think your defence looks good, midfield probably need 1 sub unless you have a good bench player. Strikers (assuming both still injured) you have the choice of doing 1 and sticking with Mata or do 2 and ditch Mata.

I personally don't want to take a large hit in the final week but will be taking at least a -4 but may do -8 once I finish looking at how this weeks games affect the stats.

          • 1 year, 5 months ago
          1. Agreed! Will wait until Sunday morning... Ward Prowse is my 5th man :(

An Ideal must has is prolly Dzeko and Sturridge.. Midfield varies!

            • 1 year, 5 months ago
          2. How are your leagues looking Rab?

            any chasing?

            • 1 year, 5 months ago
            1. Chasing 1st overall for GW3 starters, only 18 off 1st and 3 of 2nd, once things update.

Was in a ML with some mates but I left so they didn't feel bad as I was hammering them by over 400 points and only a few of us in it.

Made it to final in my h2h league after stealing 1st spot from the guy who was first all season, in the last week.

What about yourself mate, you on course for the win in your leagues?

              • 1 year, 5 months ago
              1. nice!!!

I am leading one league by 14 and chasing another by 30... and the 30 is my Uncle haha! Been playing this game for 8 years now cus of him..

                Best of luck Rab!

                • 1 year, 5 months ago
                1. The right captain choice next week should help ensure your victory and may even help you overtake your uncle.

Same to you mate, good luck for the finale. 😀

                  • 1 year, 5 months ago
                  1. haha it would be a cheeky captain punt then!!

haha cheers mate, all the best!

  6. How many points do you think can be made up in the last week?

    20? Is 30 pushing it?

If chasing, is it time to take hits or is it too unpredictable?

    • 1 year, 5 months ago
    1. Last week is extremely specific, lots of goals by obscure players, get them right and even 30-40 points is possible including captain.

      • 1 year, 5 months ago
    2. You need a lucky diff captain or 30 is almost certainly too much to make up unless you have 5 or 6 different players who all do a bit better than theirs.

      • 1 year, 5 months ago
      1. Thanks guys. Frantically waiting for the tables to update as my head hurts trying to work it out!

  9. In all the years I have been fantasy football I can't remember a game week with a bigger swing in points or positioning in leagues. It even beats the time I captained gordan hill in the 4-0 win over derby in the 1978 fantasy season. That time I didn't get burnt.

  10. Just seen the Toure goal. It doesn't get much better than that

  11. Mata, Ramsey, Aguero, and Rooney

Want to minimiz point hits and get max value from transfers. What moves should I make?

    Aguero to Dzeko?

    • 1 year, 5 months ago

“All players will blank a few times during the season. When almost all do it in the same Gameweek, it is tough to take, but that's just the dark side of probability.”
