The Community Round Up

North London proved the inspiration for a raft of articles and discussions as the community braced itself for Tottenham’s double Gameweek and kept a watchful eye over Arsenal’s evolving midfield options. We also discovered the unusual locations and situations where the community has made transfers and offer our support to a community veteran who is seriously unwell and has been absent from the site for a number of weeks.  Elsewhere we catch up on the goings on in our community leagues to discover how much the double Gameweek has affected the latest rankings.

The Members Articles

With double Gameweek fever almost over, our Community scribes were spending their time looking ahead to future transfers as well as Fantasy managers’ motivation.

Jaffalicious has been particularly interested in the evolving dynamics of the Arsenal midfield and forward line to find out which are the best assets to invest in. As his excellent delve into the statistics shows Mesut Ozil is emerging as a pivotal figure, though Alexis Sanchez’s goal on Wednesday proved the Chilean is still worthy of consideration. Following Sanchez’ strike, Jaffalicious returned to offer this update to his findings.

Drafting in Ozil over the last month has proved to be a significant boost to overall ranks. But as Andy85wsm ponders, does overall rank really matter that much, compared to mini-league glory and the thrill of a reckless transfer?

Staying with North London, it was Tottenham that helped Ludo claim a £20 Amazon voucher this week. His look at how Spurs  line up during congested fixture schedules was voted the Best Community Article of February.

There may also be time to congratulate the Puntmaster, who has two players still to play in this weekend’s second Double Gameweek fixture. Already QPR’s Matthew Phillips has rewarded his faith after just the first match.

The Hottest Topics

When we asked the community to recall the most unusual places they have made a transfer we were unprepared for the incredible response, as some spectacular, cheeky and audacious transfer venues and situations were revealed. From tinkering with a line up in a Taliban warzone to drafting players in while babies are born, and even while babies are being made, this proved to be one of the most popular discussions of the week.

Speaking of popular hot topics, we learned this week that community stalwart Doosra is currently seriously unwell and still in hospital after two weeks. When Granville broke the news the response from the community was overwhelming, with more than 200 of you offering messages of support. In addition Kings of Lyon came up with the excellent idea for the community to add 42 to their username, in reference to Doosra’s often used Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy themed response.

This week also saw double Gameweek fever hit. With just one game to go, the Community will be hoping it produces the sort of cherished memories that were recounted in Demi’s look back at double Gameweeks of yesteryear. Among our Team News man’s recollections was former Tottenham player Benoit Assou Ekotto’s surprise points haul back in 2012.

Double Gameweeks can offer a cruel lesson to some, as D1sable’s discussion on lessons learned in Fantasy Football showed. Ziegler 1988 was among those to chip him with his realisation that he should always start the season with Branislav Ivanovic, who always seem to score well early on.

Jaffalicious has not been the only one to look at Arsenal’s attacking statistics this week. Daniel Exeter has also been looking at the North London side’s players, in particular Mesut Ozil’s affect on his team-mates.

Some of those who captained Sergio Aguero this week may be feeling like quitting Fantasy Football following his measly four-point armband haul. But despite such lows EpicFail can’t see himself ever giving it up. In his hot topic on giving up FPL, he reveals he has been playing Fantasy Football for more than 20 years and hopes to carry on for decades to come.

The Members Tables

Doosra has been one of the most prolific constructors of statistics tables in our Members area. Given his current absence from the site we wanted to dedicate this week’s look at the Members Tables to some of his most popular sets of figures. For those looking for attackers his Deadly Assassins table is sorted by shots on target and offers a raft of suitable forwards to consider. There’s a surprise name topping his Midfield Marauders table, that is also sorted by shots on target. Meanwhile, his Dangerous Defenders table offers a useful guide to some of the most shot happy defenders in the game.

The Community Leagues

Going into the final fixtures of the double Gameweek, Greenwindmill continues to lead the FFS Moderators and Contributors League, although Mark has clawed back two points in midweek. Ross Gillard is another to maintain a lead during the double Gameweek and continues to top the Top 1,000 Any Season league. Elsewhere, Back on the Horse, continues at the summit of the The Puffinboy Boy Memorial League.

I've also had him since GW1, but one needs to make way for Ivan. Clyne value is 5.6 Berts 5.7 so nothing in it really.

They much the same. As a GW1 owner of Clyne, he's better value for me. Buying now, Bertrand.

I wish Davies would start, but I can't really see it myself... 🙁

Nah, Rose had done his job and was taken off early for a nice rest to get ready for QPR.

Austin to score but Rose to compensate with another assist or even a goal.

      It's one of those games.

I reckon Rose will play. He has progressed into one of their most important players. Surely he has to start after that cross for that first goal of theirs that was pretty special !! ( I am a non Rose owner and would LOVE it if he didn't start, BTW... )

    @Muppet

Saw your comments re LVG. Your feelings echo Barcelona and Bayern fans when van Bile was there. If have some friends who are Bayern supporters and I know he was extremely disliked by the fans there.

Barcelona: "Van Gaal expressed that it was difficult to implement his football philosophy at Barcelona due to cultural differences... His rows with Rivaldo were an example of this: Van Gaal insisted Rivaldo play as a left winger, whereas Rivaldo wanted to play in the centre.

Van Gaal released Rivaldo on a free transfer despite having a year left on his contract. Rivaldo joined A.C. Milan and won that season's Champions League."

Bayern: "Van Gaal got off to a poor start as Bayern coach, winning only one of his first four matches in charge. Van Gaal, however, kept insisting he is a "method trainer" meaning that his team needs time to play according to his philosophy. On 7 March 2011, Bayern Munich declared that Van Gaal's contract was to be cancelled after the end of the 2010–11 season after losing third place in the Bundesliga."

Van Bile has had some success but that is hardly surprising considering the clubs he has managed. He has always done well managing in Holland (Ajax, AZ Alkmaar) but under-performed and caused contention at big clubs overseas.
