FFS UEFA Cricket World Cup 2015 – Preparing For Matchday 1

At the start of the international break the FFS UEFA group launched a new team competition. Here’s a look at what happens next to help teams prepare for Matchday 1. We have also included a quick recap of how the competition works. Further details can be found in the launch article of the FFS UEFA Cricket World Cup 2015

RECRUITMENT UPDATE

There are still a few spots left. If you’re keen, you may get in touch with the managers of teams that have spots left. The current squad compositions of the teams can be seen in the squads page, which also has the contact details of managers/captains.

WHAT NEXT?

All managers are to update their final 15 man roster on the squads page along with their FPL team IDs. The deadline for recruitment of players is 2nd April 2359 HRS UK Time.

This will enable us to develop the live scorecard in time for Matchday 1.

The deadline for Matchday 1 team submission is 3rd April 2359 HRS UK Time. There will be another article closer to the deadline informing teams what needs to be done then.

In the mean time here’s a quick recap of the rules and explanation of how the tournament works.

WHO IS IT FOR?

All posters of the Fantasy Football Scout community. Anyone who plays FPL can join the fun.

CRICKET? AND FPL? HOW DOES THAT WORK?

So. There are 12 teams in total. Each team has 15 players each. Like FPL, there are 11 playing squad members and four on the bench.

A team’s total runs scored in a particular Gameweek is the sum of the individual 11 players FPL scores in that GW.

Then, two teams go head-to-head and the team with the higher runs scored wins the particular clash.

WHEN DOES THE TOURNAMENT RUN?

The tournament runs from GW31 – GW38, according to the real Cricket World Cup format.

WHERE CAN I FIND MORE DETAILS?

The tournament will be run on the linked spreadsheet. So be sure to bookmark the link and become familiar with its geography.

WHAT’S SO SPECIAL ABOUT THIS TOURNAMENT?

This game is aimed to bring out the “team” element to the fore, just like how it works in the real world. A team’s success isn’t dependent on one player alone after all.

As much as it’s a team game, leadership is so crucial. Each team will be led by a captain and a vice-captain, guided by a manager.

  • The manager is the know-it-all, who will answer any questions you may have during the course of the tournament. He will also have frequent strategic discussions with the captain. The manager is also the link of every team with the organizers. They have been chosen by the organizers for their valuable understanding of the game. The manager also submits his playing XI every week prior to the squad submission deadline.
  • The captain is the face of the team. He/she is the one who scouts the players (including vice-captain) for his team. Along with the manager, he/she decides the playing XI every week. Also, in the case of a tie in a particular clash, the captain’s FPL score is the tie-breaker.
  • The vice-captain will deputize for the captain in his absence and share his responsibility where apt. Every captain has either already or will be picking their vice-captains.

LIVE SCORECARD

Over the course of the Gameweek, you will have the chance to view the live scorecards of each team (similar to Scorecast for the HWC). This is brought to you by Pratik. There will also be some features like Twitter feeds and Chatango. More updates on this will follow.

HOW CAN I JOIN A TEAM?

The Scouting period for the teams runs from now until 2nd April. Basically it’s a period when each team will be scouting for players (along with their FPL IDs). The squads will then be announced on 3rd April.

You can also approach a captain, vice-captain or a manager to join the team of your interest. If you check the squad page, most of the teams have linked their Twitter or Email IDs. Places are likely to run off quickly. So if you’d like to express your interest, the time is now!

You can also follow the competition on Twitter at @FFS_UEFA. Tweet updates from your country using the hashtag #FFSCWC

Please do try and keep chat about the tournament to the comment section for this article.

Well Done South Africa on a well deserved victory. We knew the DGWers would be a threat but we weren't expecting anything like that. Best of luck for the remainder of the tournament. Hopefully we will cross paths again

I'm sure it was a one off as there's barely been GWs where 2 players will influence the fixture so much. Good luck Badger and Team UAE 🙂

I quite liked it before today, but now I think It's the worst. I transfer in benteke for this week, captain him, but because the game wasn't on a Saturday Sunday or Monday the sites not programmed to give me points, so I get none......

    Thomass Post-Match interview.
Pommie: You must be happy with that performance.
Thomass: Yes Pom I'm happy with that performance, it was quite hard work. I'm very proud of the team. In the early stages of the match the UAE bowlers made it difficult for us but we came through that test with ease. The UAE batters played well, I thought they made it difficult for us at stages. I was happy with the way we thought throughout both innings, that was pleasing to see. We showed a lot of fight which is what I am looking for from my boys. We got a fabulous total on the board. I'm extremely happy with the performance.
Pommie: What do you make of the two lads who got hundreds?
Thomass: I thought they both batter exceptionally well. I am really proud of all the team. They both played well from the word go. They made it difficult for the UAE players.
Pommie: Now you go to play India do you expect that the match will be similar to this game.
Thomass: We will go and play an attacking brand of cricket which can hurt India and see what happens from there. I'm sure that if we play to our potential we can win.
Pommie: Twiiter Question: What is the objective in this tournament at this current stage?
Thomass: To get to the Quarters.

Good day to you Lords and ladies of the gentry, ladies and Gentlemen, peasants and paupers,

On this fine and sunny day on this green and pleasant Isle in merry old England we say hip hip hooray! Jolly good show old boys! We have triumphed against the convicts in game 1!

Commiserations to Australia who put up a valiant performance in the final innings in their bid to hunt down our total.

After the first few overs things started to look reasonably comfortable and by tea time on day one over cucumber sandwiches one believed we were set to give them a royal thrashing. Steadfast we batted with all our might to see them off but much to their credit and thieving ways they stole back much of the lead we had afforded ourselves but in the end despite some fantastic batting from Australia we managed to see them out.

I'm somewhat miffed that personally I was just short of being able to lift my bat aloft for her majesty to celebrate a century. Never the less I was pleased to do my part in what was a fantastic performance from the chaps.

Now we aim our sights on a different breed of antipodeans altogether for the second test. They scored extremely well in a frightfully close encounter against Sri Lanka.

We're very much hoping that we can overcome them and plot the exit and extinction of the kiwis from the tournament.

Matron beckons, back in the board room at lords we're cleaning up after the celebrations, now back to the serious business of luncheon and preparing for the weekends action..

Until then it's toodle pip and tally ho England!

Liverpool DGW in 34 should make for some interesting games! Which teams have the most WC's?

Having been part of the Aussie recruitment, I can assure you they have a handful. Good luck to whoever faces them 😉

I believe SA have a healthy number of WC's.

GW33 should be interesting too with all the blanks. Which team can actually field a full 121 players?

Now we'll see who the good managers are. With everyone now inclined to use their WCs for the DGW34, it'll be interesting to see who gets their teams to spread the WCs out so as to be a benefit in other weeks.

Hehe, well played sir, but the Protea's will not fall foul of this subtle propaganda.

I'll be more than happy if SA uses up its WCs in GW34 against an Irish team you expect to beat anyway rather than saving any for GW35 against the Windies.

Is our GW35 clash actually going to be anything other than a dead rubber? It will be meaningless for SA anyway.

You'll be wanting to save some of your WCs for GW37 then.

    Richie Benaud at his best:

"And Glenn McGrath dismissed for two, just ninety-eight runs short of his century"
