Captain Sensible – Gameweek 33

Our pre-Gameweek members article, which focuses on the main captaincy contenders arrives once again tonight. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

This week’s Poll is something of a landslide, with Sergio Aguero’s return to form persuading just under 49% of voters to back the City frontman as West Ham pay visit. In spite of his double at Old Trafford, it’s fair to say the Argentine has toiled in front of his own fans this term – he’s netted in just four of his 12 Etihad appearances, with only one double-digit haul (albeit a monster 19-point return) at home all season. With Big Sam’s men conceding in all but one of their road trips, David Silva (3% votes) looks a real differential candidate, having served up 37 points (17, 11, 9) in his last three Etihad showings.

Palace duo Glenn Murray (17%) and Yannick Bolasie (5%) are amongst the most-favoured options as Alan Pardew’s side look for a fifth straight win this weekend. Six goals and four assists in his last six highlights Murray’s sublime form, with the 5.2-priced striker racking up three successive double-figure hauls ahead of the Baggies’ visit. Bolasie’s 24-point return at Sunderland has kick-started an almighty bandwagon – over 88,000 FPL managers have snapped up the midfielder, who has now delivered three goals and four assists in his previous four. Bearing in mind that the Baggies have shipped ten in their last three, Tony Pulis could struggle upon his return to Selhurst Park.

Harry Kane is just ahead of Eden Hazard (7% to 6%), despite his recent patchy form. Three blanks in the last four have diminished his armband appeal but a trip to Newcastle looks the ideal opportunity to return to scoring form – four of Kane’s seven double-figure hauls have been on the road this term. The Magpies have just two clean sheets in 20 league fixtures now and look unlikely to improve upon that record, judging by their insipid display at Liverpool on Monday night.

Hazard’s home encounter with United has deterred many. With a goal or assist in five of his last six, there’s no doubt the Chelsea winger is one of the most consistent options around, though it’s worth nothing that he’s scored in just one of his last seven at Stamford Bridge. Given that the visitors have just two clean sheets in their last six road trips – at QPR and Newcastle – Jose Mourinho’s men will be confident of getting amongst the goals on Saturday evening.

Elsewhere, the likes of Leighton Baines and Romelu Lukaku sit around the 1% mark as Everton entertain Burnley. The Toffees have four clean sheets in five at Goodison and with Sean Dyche’s side scoring once in the last six, a clean sheet, at least, looks on the card for the Merseysiders.

Swap plus 10mil to Wolfsburg then I would be happy. Comparable to the Zlatan/eto'o deal.

After a lot of consideration I doubled up at the back.

Without seeing you team its hard to tell what is best for you.

I have also doubled up at the back Terry and Ivan for the rest of the season for me with Skrtel and Alder rotation

      Cazorla > Fabs
      Bellerin > Schluup.

Think you can just about afford that?

I'm 0.2 short. Same as in real life lol. Is Fab the more essential of the two moves there?

I've double up at the back for Chelsea which is a possibility for you but there are not great options in Lei midfield.

You've been a bit unlucky as Cazorla went down by 0.1 otherwise you could have gone for Morgan instead.

Also having spent a lot of time in Italy as a kid the family loved La Bomba!

What about this Cambiasso chap? He's on the watchlist and has nice fixtures!

I'm thinking to go Duff at the back instead of Schlupp as that would let me bring in Lovren for the double next week for Reveillere.

Aha Tomba is the best! I used to ski race, and GBs best skier is on here a fair bit. Crumbs those mountains would have been a cracking place to grow up in 🙂

He was something else, the George Best of the Italian ski world.

Cambiasso getting a lot of love but people forget the Lei are still rubbish and playing Chelsea. Having said that I think they could get some joy against Swansea this week so if anyone brings him in they should do it this week and not 34.

              Wouldn't touch Duff.

Haha that's so true! Bode Miller would be his closest comparison but those were different days and he was the greatest king of mountains 🙂

I agree with your reasoning on cambiasso, players like that traditionally get hyped up on here (ie modric)

Why wouldn't you touch duff? Their record has been decent over the last few and there's some nice fixtures, plus he's sub 4mil.

Maybe look at Willian/Oscar and go with Schluup. I just think you want to focus on making sure you are well stocked for the DGW, Duff only recently got his place back (could lose again) and transfers at this point in the season are precious.

Indeed skrtel is the most nailed and I can afford him although I have considered Moreno

Im 50/50 at the moment as to get Skrtel I would have to sacrifice Clyne or i could do Dawson to Moreno.

Go for Skrtel. Moreno has no assists and only 2 goals this season, so his attacking returns don't outweigh how many bp Skrtel gets.

    For GW 34:

    A: Sterling (wba,hul), Skrtel (wba,hul)

B: Sanchez (CHE), Bertrand (TOT) + 8 points

Could you get Sterling for another player also depends on buying and selling value of Sanchez I would want to lose him with Arsenals fixtures and DGW37 however I think Sterling and Skrtel will cover your 8 point hit

          Thanks Matthew!

Im only losing 0,1 on Sanchez, and have a plan to get him back for DGW37.
But off course he could do a lot of damage before that..

I could drop the Sanchez mov and play DGW with Henderson and Skrtel and save a hit.

Better triple up for the DGW

Hendo Sterling Mignolet or Ivan Terry & Hazard?

What's the likely Liverpool backline for the DGW games (WBA, HUL) and the QPR game the week after?

Can - Skrtel - Lovren seem likely? Or do we think that they'll be doing a back four.

Looking for a draft league - have an opportunity to pick one of Lovren or Glen Johnson. Wondering which I should go for, if at all.

Am I the only one who thinks that Aguero won't do much against WHU ?

Prefering Kane as a captain, is that insane ?

Should i play 10 GW33 (I have Ameobi but i dont expect him to play) and GW34 skrtel and sterling for hutton and eriksen (no hit) or Migno, sterling and remy for panti, eriksen and kane (4pt hit). Or get Terry in this week for hutton and have a full 11 and GW34 hendo/coutinho (cant afford sterling) for Eriksen and Migno for Panti. Helpppppppppp

    Hi All,

    Keep: Davis K.
Def: Rose - Bertrand - Terry
Mid: Mane - Eriksen - Walters - Hazard - Silva
    Att: Remy - Kane

Bench: Mignolet - Sturridge - Belerin - Monreal

    0 FT's & 3.6 million ITB.

I feel as though Mane, Remy and Sturridge are all risky, but is it worth it to take hit(s) to get them out? If so, when?

Otherwise I can take Mane/Erik out next week with the FT to bring in L’pool midfielder. If so, who?

    Thanks!

    p.s. been ignored 3 times now 🙁

Hi all. I have a WC ready to use next week. How do you guys feel about cashing in Sanchez this week...taking a loss of 0.5 on him...and then getting him back in GW 35? I think it would be worth it. I'm 33 points up in the ML. Cheers.

    This game week with 1ft:
    A) Clyne > Terry
    B) Sanchez > Fabregas
    Or save and
    A) Clyne > Skrtel
    B) Eriksen > Sterling
