Spot the Differential – Gameweek 37

Our search for a trio of overlooked alternatives arrives, as always, this Saturday morning. We place our faith in Newcastle and Burnley’s frontmen, whilst Arsenal’s forgotten midfielder could yet have a part to play in the upcoming double Gameweek.

Ayoze Perez

Perez has been one of the only bright sparks for Newcastle during their nine-match winless streak. The Spanish youngster boasts three goals in two starts for the Magpies, while only five forwards in the league fashioned more shots on target (five) than the Toon marksman in their previous four matches.

Papiss Cisse’s return to action provides further incentive to invest in the 4.3-priced Perez. Having served out his lengthy suspension, the Senegalese frontman earned minutes off the bench against West Brom and is pushing to start at Queens Park Rangers on Saturday. With opposing defences now having to contend with the pace and power of Cisse, Perez – who could either line up on the right flank or alongside Cisse in a two-man attack – should be afforded more space to exploit.

Sitting just two points off 18th-placed Hull City, the Tynesiders will be desperate to secure all three points at Loftus Road, playing into the hands of their attacking contingent. Furthermore, an agreeable match-up against West Ham United (one goal in last four) on the final day renders Perez a solid option in Gameweek 38.

Danny Ings

Danny Ings (5.5) netted for the first time in 11 starts during Burnley’s 1-0 win over Hull City last Gameweek. Notwithstanding his barren spell, the Clarets’ leading man has been engineering an impressive number of attempts (16) in the last six Gameweeks, with only six other forwards surpassing that tally. With a number of suitors eyeing up a summer bid, Ings’ goal at the KC Stadium could be the catalyst to inspire further Fantasy returns.

Strengthening Ings’ case for inclusion, Burnley play host to Stoke City this weekend. The Potters lost three and drew one of their previous four road matches, while Sean Dyche’s side will be confident of getting a result in their final Premier League match at Turf Moor, having taken points off Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City in recent home matches. Moreover, the Lancashire club close out their campaign with a trip to Aston Villa – who’ve recorded just one home clean sheet in eight attempts.

Jack Wilshere

With Aaron Ramsey remaining doubtful, and rotation a possibility ahead of the FA Cup final, the fit-again Wilshere (6.3) could come into contention for Arsenal’s double Gameweek against United and Sunderland.

The England international has been handed cameos in the Gunners’ previous two league ties, as he steps up his rehabilitation ahead of a full return. In just 28 minutes against Swansea on Monday evening, Wilshere created five scoring opportunities – joint-top for Arsene Wenger’s side – to suggest that, even if his pitch time is limited, he could still prosper.

It’s unlikely he’ll earn a start at Old Trafford this Sunday but, depending on results over the weekend, the midweek visit of Sunderland could play into the Gunners’ hands. If Dick Advocaat’s side can secure their survival on Saturday, they’ll have a little less motivation come Wednesday evening, and with third spot still on the line, Arsenal will be determined to grab a much-needed win as they look to recover from Monday’s shock loss against Swansea.

    Simple question. Difficult answer and why?

    A) Ramsay
    B) Ozil
    C) Cazorla

      The answer is easy: C. It's the reasoning that's difficult 🙂

      I've gone with Caz because he seems heavily fancied on here.

      A or B; C is gonna be heartbreaking...No one...I mean NO ONE kicks more shots into human bodies that Sanitago Cazorla. In addition he is playing deeper, building possession from next to Coquelin.

      Ramsay for sheer 4th midfielder run - scoring opportunities and frequency of geolocation to action. Ozil is a wild card but I rate higher for assist and scores that Caz.

      I went with Ramsey despite injury doubts and rotation fear. Just thinking he's more likely to score and get baps if he gets 90 minutes in total over the GW - which is by no means a certain. Cazorla still the sensible choice - will play 180 minutes, and highly likely to get an assist, an also on pens.

    is going for Walcott over Caz or Ramsey just crazy?
    it seems there's worry that each may only play one game, Walcott would likely play SUN (H)
    plus more likely to play GW38 in rotation for FA cup?

      Yes insane...bananas...borderline imbecilic.

      At least brainy players can come in off the bench and see weaknesses in defenses. Theo has no footballing brain. Not to mention his effort level is questionable. I could find better things to do than watching Theo get called offsides 4 times in the 24 minutes he plays per game.

      Should be offloading Sigs; Fabregas or Eriksen for Sanchez and or Ozil/Cazorla...are you insane??

      You essentially only got a captain´s choice right last week. Don´t let that fool you into thinking you have an effective team for this week. You´ll be screwed points-wise if Arsenal score big this week...or the relegation teams score.

      I can see your score last week...minus 46.

    Q1: Who to bench:

    sanchez-ozil-hazard-coutinho-silva

    Q2: Is doubling on the Sunderland defense really worth the risk???

      the only sunderland doubling that should be done is:

      A. Johnson/Defoe
      Gomez/Defoe
      Gomez/Johnson

      PvA is also a sound shout if you have him already...he seems to be trying to play himself onto a better squad for next season.

    Please Help!

    I dunno what to do with my team vs my ML rival. I'm 15 ahead and was ahead of the curve setting my team up for the DGW, but I think it's been levelled by the Ramsey uncertainty.

    Our diff's are:

    Me: Ramsey/Giroud/Silva/Hendo/Skrtl
    Him: Caz/Kosc/Hazard/Sterling/Kane

    I've got a FT, he doesn't (I've figured his out).

    What do I do? I think my lead is marginally too skinny to cover Caz, but is that the best move here? Alternatvely I could go Larsson, or last option is probably save to adjust to whatever GW38 throws up with 2FT. Silva to Haz is probably the go for that.

    Any suggestions/affirmations of the above options?

    2 FT
    Giroud -> Ulloa/Vardy
    Hendo -> Caz
    (Already have Sanchez & Ramsey)

    thoughts?

    Ok, got to make my move quickly - girlfriend is hassling me 😛 Final opinions:

    Panti (Schmeichel)
    Terry | Kosc | PvA | Skrtel | Ivan
    Haz | Alexis | Silva | Grealish | Cambi
    Kun | Kane | Vardy

    1FT, 0.4 itb

    A) Haz -> Caz (enough itb to buy Haz back if necessary next week)
    B) Silva -> Caz
    C) Ivan + Cambi -> Vlaar + Caz (-4)

      I'm leaning towards B. Haz has become a differential and it sounds like he's playing! Swansea have been fairly defensive lately.

    Can you ignore sanchez this week ?

    hey guys, dug myself a huge hole getting ospina and ozil last week after ramseys injury.
    diff is 20 pts with the leader. he has sanchez and our teams are basically the same.

    Ospina

    Terry Lovren Van anholt ( Baines )

    Hazard Fellaini Ozil Coutinho

    Aguero Benteke Kane

    Would you

    A) Giroud and Ryan taylor for Baines and Kane
    B) Giroud and Ake for baines and kane
    C) Sanchez straight for hazard
    D) Giroud straight for benteke ( and rebuy benteke next week home to burnley)
