The Numbers Game – 2014/15 Review – Man City

Our series of members articles, assessing the season gone by, continues this evening with a look at Manchester City.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men kicked off the campaign as champions after finishing two points clear of Liverpool in 2013/14 but a poor Easter period, where they lost four times in six matches between Gameweeks 27-32, allowed Chelsea to clinch the crown with three fixtures to spare.

We take time out to delve into their data, assessing the performance of City’s key Fantasy assets in terms of their creative and goal threat output.

    Manchester City face an increasingly desperate battle to sign Paul Pogba from Juventus, but hope to take a step closer to landing Kevin De Bruyne when his agent meets with Wolfsburg next week. (Daily Mail)

    Robin van Persie is being driven out of Manchester United and sold behind his back, according to his former teammate Pierre van Hooijdonk. Turkish side Fenerbahce are keen to sign Van Persie, and Van Hooijdonk claimed United have been working to offload his fellow Dutchman since the turn of the year. (Daily Mirror)

    Radamel Falcao has completed the formalities of his move to Chelsea and will link up with his new club on their pre-season tour of North America, according to the Colombian striker’s family. (Guardian)

    Chelsea are set to make an improved £8million offer for Stoke goalkeeper Asmir Begovic on Thursday. (Daily Telegraph)

    Jose Mourinho has blocked £15million Loic Remy's exit from Chelsea. Crystal Palace, Swansea and West Ham have all expressed an interest in the £80,000-a-week French striker since the end of last season, but the Blues insists he is not for sale. (Daily Mirror)

    Stoke, meanwhile, are facing frustration in their bid to sign Xherdan Shaqiri. The Potters have agreed a club record £12million fee with Inter Milan for Shaqiiri, the Switzerland international, but the early signs are that he is not interested in a move to the Premier League and may decide to stick it out with Inter. (Daily Telegraph)

    Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is set to fly out to Madrid later this week to start negotiations with Atletico over the signing of defender Toby Alderweireld. Atletico will demand at least £10m for the Belgian after his impressive spell on loan at Southampton last season. (London Evening Standard)

    West Ham have stepped up their pursuit to bring Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson back on loan following his successful spell last season. (Daily Mail)

    But West Ham have suffered a setback in their pursuit of a top-class central defender after being told they will have to bid more than £20 million for Dynamo Kiev’s Aleksandar Dragovic. (Daily Telegraph)

    Everton are showing an interest in West Brom right-back Cristian Gamboa as they look for cover for Manchester United target Seamus Coleman. (Daily Mail)

    Abou Diaby is considering a move to Major League Soccer after finally being released by Arsenal. The injury-prone French midfielder, signed in 2006, is understood to be in talks with FC Dallas. (Daily Mirror)

      The big question mark for today is Arda Turan. His agent said we will know by the end of the week his next destination. He has been offered to Chelsea apparently but will the blues pay his release clause? Barca is interested too

      I read that van Hooijdonk article and he was talking rubbish. Surely every player wants to play at WC and with his quality as a matchwinner, it'd be mad to drop him on the national side last year. Just not meant to be.

        And I seriously think Kondogbia is not a step up from Shaqiri. Inter could make a mistake there.

              People said the same thing when he left City for Spurs, they came to an agreement regarding his absurd wages. It would be a like for like trade and Sherwood has worked with him before.

              It would need Kane to be sold though to make it work of course.

                    If that was the only 2 options, yes it would. He would much rather offload him to someone else who will pay his wages though. He's a stingy bar steward

                      The reality is that nobody will want to pay his wages and will seek a deal that Spurs themselves benefited from when they got him from City.

    Ivan = 7,5
    Kosc = 6
    Hazard = 11,5
    Silva = 10,5
    Ozil = 9
    Aguero = 12,5

    Possible?

    I'm looking at:

    9
    Ivan - Kosc - 4,5 - 4,5 - 4
    Hazard - Silva - Ozil - 5 - 5
    Aguero (or a placeholder for the first weeks) - 6 - 5

          personally i would say its tough to play so many premium players at the start.

          rely on 2 cheap strikers to do the job is hard since your options really are limited to the promotion teams and a few more. 2x5m midfielder might mean that u could have at least 3 attackers from the promotion teams

      even koscielny is highly injury prone (next to agü, özil and silva)

      my advice: get a wba defender who's probably 5
      get rid of özil and buy a 6m mid like henderson
      upgrade your fw someone like lukaku

    Anyone think they'll be looking at strikers from the promoted teams to start with in their GW1 teams?

    All three's starting fixtures don't look bad at all and had strikers that done well last season.. Do we expect any of them to do a Charlie Austin?

    I could easily see myself having 2 strikers from promoted teams alongside Aguero so that I have more cash to spend on my midfield..

        I'll be late to that party.. Wasn't impressed with him for a lot of last season and has looked pretty poor for England lately.. When he's scoring well he's gold but he never really looked like that player last year.

        He couldn't excite in the Bundesliga, what makes you think he can excite in the EPL?

      I'm hoping i don't get drawn in to too many newcomers. Would rather miss one or two scores than bring in someone who is on and off the bench for a month. But saying that... Shaqiri if it happens obviously, and agree about Payet. And maybe a cheap Norwich defender and Bournemouth forward.

      Possibly the Bournemth goalie who rots well with Myhill. However, I don't foresee many cs.

      Bid accepted as we know but apparently he's not interested in a move to the Premier League and wants to stick it out with Inter.

    Chelsea have been offered the chance to sign Arda Turan from Atletico Madrid, according to The Guardian.

    Turan, who has been capped by Turkey 28 times, is reportedlyattracted to a move to London.

    Anyone know much about Elephant & Castle in London?

    Looking at some flats there to rent for a couple of young professionals who want to be fairly close to Waterloo (commuting purposes). Have heard mixed reviews ranging from 'it's on the up and it's pretty good value' to 'dodgy area'.

      Its definitely on the up - Zone 1, good bars, decent music venues and insanely convenient to travel to. Yes it is a little dodgy but hence why the rent is low

    Question:-

    Tony Pulis almost instantly dropped wisdom when getting the WBA gig. Do you think that was because of

    A/ He didn't think he was good enough/didn't do it his way
    Or
    Is there a chance that it's
    B/ Liverpool said that he was going to come back no matter what and might be in be first team next season so Pulis dropped him knowing there sandy a future there for him

    Percentage chance of B?

      He didn't want to use loan players and he wasn't a 7' thug.

        Big scary guys in the back 4. Intimidation is a good defensive policy.

          Not just the back 4. Delap, Palacios... TP should be a rugby coach.

            Arsenal's youngsters were terrified of that Stoke team. It can have an interesting effect.

      Would be a good move for him.. Looked at his best for them last season, certainly better than he'd been for us.
