Pre-Season

Pre-Season Section Now Live

With the new 2015/16 season officially underway following West Ham’s win over Lusitans in the UEFA Europa League first qualifying round first leg last night, we’re launching the Pre-Season Section of the site once again as we build-up towards the start of the new Premier League campaign.

The majority of the 20 Premier League sides are now back in pre-season training, with some teams facing their first friendlies towards the end of next week. So we’ve put together a list of every club’s summer schedule, plus we’ve linked every article published over the break for each team. You can visit the Pre-Season guide for a full rundown on all of the Scout Reports, Moving Targets, Great Expectations and Sleeper articles, in addition to our assessments of the three promoted sides, while we’ll also be adding our Fixture Analysis pieces shortly.

We’ll be updating the Pre-Season guide on a daily basis, adding every article upon publication. Each team also has their own “Scout Notes” and “Form Players” sections, which will be added to throughout the summer. We’ll be keeping a close eye on all the friendlies and, as well as rolling out plenty of Scout Scribbles articles to cover the matches, will be using this as a handy one-stop-shop to compile your guide ahead of next month’s big kick-off.

Can't believe how very few people are talking about Costa, especially with Alexis and Agüero looking at potentially slow starts to the season. One of the first names in my selection.

yeah to be fair costa will probably be in my team GW1. no copa America, hopefully free of injuries, hazard setting him up and dint he get a hatrick vs Swansea at liberty last season? might be wrong but as you said aguero and sachez may only be on bench for first few games. this of course means Bony could be a good pick early on

coz it's a fact that the reverse corresponding game the next season will end up the same score. hence why stoke will beat Liverpool 6-1 at anfield! ok you win, I just thought maybe costa will be in a super confident mood after a home fixture against a team he excelled at last season.

He is a no go unless the bonus system changes imo. If it stays the same then Hazard is also essential as he got the most bonus points by a mile. So its all dependant on ant rule changes.

which is one of my bugbears in sport. I really don't see why it was classed as such a massive achievement in 2005 when England won the ashes. it's pretty obvious even with great nations they aren't gonna have a brilliant team all the time ie brazil at WC 74,78, plus of course it's a 2 horse race. if they won the cricket world cup then fair enough. talking of horses that's my number 1 annoyance in sport; why does the jockeys like AP McCoy get all the credit for the wins? it's the horse that won not tony. all he did was stay on (like most of the other jockeys do) and whip the horse. zero skill. if McCoy was on the worst horse in every race then he wouldn't have hardly won any races. sorry rant over

weighing 8 stone and staying on a horse just about sums it up. no to be fair, I imagine its scary during a race over the fences at top speed but then that's the same for all the jockeys. if you gave a jockey no one has ever heard of, the horses tony McCoy's had since he started then that guy would've been the number 1. I think it's the horse that is the star, not the jockey

The Australia team in 2005 was the best team in the world and had been for many years. It wasn't like when we beat them in 2009 and there was relatively little fanfare - the point was that was our Everest and winning it was a huge achievement.

            **Long post alert**
Seems like I've missed all the discussion on Falcao, but what does everyone think of the transfer?
Personally it's hard to believe that mou would have driven the bid if he didn't have a good reason, coz he's the last manager to be bringing such an expensive player as a third choice.
I remember that when he signed Costa he said that he is going to try fielding two up front, and I can
see such a thing being tried again, as Costa is a physical striker and Falcao was the focal point of all atletico attacks, and at mu his failure can be attributed to the change in role.
Another PT in favor is that mou has expressed that he wants Hazard to score like Messi, and by using Falcao as his focal point he may be able to relieve Hazard of hits creative duties.
What do you guys think about that???

Change of scenery may work for falcao. Difficult to write him off totally, but i think he'll struggle again, v little pace & mobility makes him easy to mark... Good gamble by jose though, they have v little to lose on the deal.

You didn´t see him play much at Athleti did you? Don´t see much difference, apart from his teammates at Madrid trusted him enough to give him service he could cause problems with...no one seemed to believe that he is damn near as effective as Lebron James in the air.

Last year exposed so many United supporters as shallow surface scratchers that lack a futbol depth of knowledge.

Lose his job...lol, he´s seen way more of Falcao than any of us. I think the bigger job is getting Haz to play more like Messi, trying to get him to play cohesively with Fab has shown him that they have a long way to go. Haz only knows how to walk the ball into the goal, he has to immensely learn how to up his fire-at-will game. Of the 58+ goals that Messi scored it was surprising how many were first-time, weak-footed, parallel to the 6 yard box acute angles ie; Goal # 8 vs Eibar.

Personally I think Haz has a long way to go, you either have change of speed/true trickery mastered it very hard to acquire, especiaally if a superstar of Haz´s level hasn´t mastered it yet.

                  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rvO_pj08Ih4

Hazard has a few tricklers and goalie wickets, even a few dribbling across the face...but he´s nowhere near Leo.

The serious injury has ruined him, no form for club or country for a while. Cant see him being anything but back-up for Costa or a disappointment to be honest. But hes relatively cheap (for PL champion standards) and fills the gap while Bamford gets a loan to another PL club until he becomes reserve striker next season I guess.

Im a united fan but think falcao will strive at chelsea with the likes of hazard and cesc behind him.

He was back from injury and adapoting to premier league is hard for some player. Just look at di maria. he was in great form at madrid previous seaosn but struggled in his first seaoson.

There's a saying form is temporary but class is permanent. He was deadly at his prime. Even if he shows half his potential chelsea will benefit a lot.

I think Falcao is the case of a player in a major slump, and with arguably the best manager in the world working with him he may return to the player he was.

Granted this didn't work with Torres, but who knows.

I think 2 up front is very outdated in the PL, nothing to lose really. He flops, it's Monaco's problem next year. He does well, they're laughing.

I think that it all depends on Falcao getting his mojo back. He might do that with Costa's help as they forged a good partnership back when they were together at Atletico and Falcao seemed lost at Man Utd. If it becomes mutually beneficial then Chelsea IMO would have the best strike-force in Europe bar Barcelona.

On the flip side it could all go the way of Torres if Falcao's injury means no matter how well the team play for him and he is enjoying life he just physically can't do it to the same level anymore. If that happens they have another £200k/wk waste there!

Bear in mind ALOT of top players struggle in their first season in England though - my prediction is that he is better than he was at Man U, but not quite the Falcao of Atletico/Porto. Probably get about 15 goals in all competitons.

I think Falcao will be second choice. The money is no object for Chelsea and Remy has no hold up play, and José does not like playing him as a lone striker because of that. This was evident last season when Drogba was prefered to him despite playing poorly. Falcao is just a Drogba replacement. Costa is still top dog.

It will be great when the Friday games come into effect next season I think. Many other leagues and sports (AFL is the main one that comes to mind) have Friday night games and its always a good time slot to watch some sport.

In terms of FPL do people think it will have much of an impact?? I doubt it myself, press conferences are done by then and its rare we get news on a saturday.

But I think he had been trying too much early up... If half his attempted passes start coming off he'd be a real asset... Weak finishing in general though

He doesn't have to say anything. Every time he's commented on his future he's reiterated his will to stay.

Yet there are stories! It's not like he can't move house...

If he's 9m or less next season he could be the best value player out there. Player of the season? At 80/1 (current odds) it is worth a punt. He's not past it. He lost form and confidence but if he finds it again he is utterly world class and very few in prem can claim that.

Nope. Nor is Serene usually this bad. The number of unforced errors by Serena today are mammoth compared to her usual performances.

She's the British #1 and grass is her best surface.

But is she usually good enough to be competing like this against Serena? No.

You know the flotsam and rubbish on water that is polluted so it should just be disposed of and is of no use to anyone?

Bunch of "English" people, mostly whites, who just have nothing better to do than go on marches, get drunk, spout racist abuse and claim that they're not racist.

Rotherham sign Tom Thorpe following his release by Man Utd

Hmm, I thought he'd have been a decent pick up for a lower PL side tbh

they're a Championship side but still think he's probably better than a lot of the defenders at Aston Villa, Newcastle, Sunderland and he'd be ok West Ham

certainly good for any of the newly promoted sides

6 appearances for Birmingham, 1 for Man U. From what performances are you deducing that he is PL quality?

                                      Injuries curtailed him

I've seen quite a lot of reserve games over the last couple of years, and Thorpe was better than McNair and Blackett

sadly a bit like Will Keane injuries just stopped him reaching his full potential

Not sure you can say he is PL wuality based off reserve team performances.

How did he compare to Keane?

he has the talent and for a spell he was really good for us. I remember him for his deflected cross for rooneys overheard kick against city and his memerobaly charity shield performance also against city when he cleverly were brilliant in 3-2 win

He sure had his moments, too bad he was so inconsistant. Also really unlucky in that CL game when he got a red. I feel like he wasn't appreciated enough at United, even though he seemed to enjoy being a red devil...
