Scout Notes – Gameweek 3 – Monday

Liverpool chalk up a third straight clean sheet after emerging from the Emirates with a goalless draw. Arsenal fail to score at home yet again, with Petr Cech keeping the Merseysiders at bay with a string of vital first-half stops.

Arsenal Stutter at Home Again

Despite boasting nearly two-thirds of the possession (66%) and fashioning 19 shots at goal, the Gunners were unable to breach Liverpool’s unyielding rearguard. Astonishingly, the north London club have now drawn blanks in five of their last six matches at the Emirates across all competitions, which might encourage Arsene Wenger to switch things up for their next home encounter.

In light of Per Mertesacker (illness) and Laurent Koscielny sitting out this encounter, Gabriel and Callum Chambers were drafted into central defence. The former was the only member of Arsenal’s back five not to receive a single bonus point, with Petr Cech claiming the maximum three – the former Chelsea shot-stopper amassed 11 points in all, having rebuffed the Reds’ attacks with eight saves.

Alexis Sanchez’s came close to breaking the deadlock when he clattered the upright from close range following a well-worked move, while Aaron Ramsey’s 6% ownership were miffed to witness his goal wrongly disallowed for offside. Both players will fancy their chances of gracing the scoresheet soon, though, given that they face a trip to Newcastle United and home tie against Stoke City in the next two Gameweeks.

Reds Rearguard Holds Steady

Liverpool continued their unbeaten start to the season after carding a third successive clean sheet. Joe Gomez (4.7) turned out a performance that belied his years, quelling the hosts’ threat down their right flank by virtue of his excellent positioning and impressive recovery speed. On last night’s showing, the ex-Charlton defender looks likely to retain his starting role in the left-back berth ahead of Alberto Moreno, rendering him the most valuable route into the Merseysiders’ defence. Three favourable home ties in the next four Gameweeks (WHU, NOR, AVL) only serve to strengthen his claim for inclusion.

Philippe Coutinho (8.1) fired a rasping strike onto the underside of the crossbar in the early exchanges, before forcing a superb fingertip-save out of Cech minutes before the break. No midfielder has attempted more shots than the Brazil international this term (15), which certainly bodes well for a Gameweek 4 clash against a Hammers outfit that shipped four goals last time out and are devoid of Carl Jenkinson and Adrian through suspension.

Christian Benteke (8.5) spurned a golden opportunity to afford Liverpool the lead in the first period but proved effective as the spearhead to their attack. Given that the other candidates around Benteke’s price tag (Harry Kane, Romelu Lukaku and Graziano Pelle) also blanked this Gameweek, his 40% ownership will feel confident ahead of the above-mentioned trio of Anfield showdowns.

Frustrated with Hazard, his positioning for the last match was awful, could have replaced Azpilicueta.
Had he played in Willian's place, I guess he would have had a Brace to his name.

Now I think, the only options owning a Chelsea attacker is either with Costa or Pedro!

    Is it worth taking a hit to get this;

    Hazard + Pelle --> Costa + Coutinho/Ozil

In fact, I'm also not happy with Pelle returns also. don't think he'll perform this gameweek also, since they'll tire themselves with Europa qualification again.

I've taken a -4 hit to do Payet > Redmond/ Depay > Pedro. Pedro will rise which was a reason for the knee jerk but I'm instantly regretting it. I've now got no United assets.... Doomed?

Which 3 of this 5 would you play?

    Damian kolarov Williams Gomez Richards

Atm I am benching Damian & Williams though this does feel a little strange.

Also someone please sanction a -4 hit on Depay to Pedro - don't know why I got Memphis I loathe Utd so so boring to watch and I need the Chelsea cover

    Hey folks

Currently outside the top 2 mil and hit the WC. Really need your help

    Pls RMWCT

    Butland | McCarthy
    Kolarov Gomez Francis Huth S.Taylor
Sanchez Silva Pedro Mahrez (4.4 mid )
    Ageuro Benteke Wilson

    0.0 itb

Worried about my double Bournemouth and double Leicester but I've looked around for other defenders and there's no good options. Maybe a 5.0 and 4.0 defender would be better but I've no idea who to choose? Many thanks

      Can't really fault it...

My personal preference will be to add a united defender and maybe Costa instead of Pedro but that's just me.

Who's more vital to bring in this week going forward for a -4? Mahrez (price rise/form) or Pedro (form).

I agree with this. Watching the game, I was pleased that he won't be rotated any time soon. He may be given a rest, given his age, at some point -- but not rotated. He did make a few errors (misplaed passes, etc) but defensively he was very solid.

Yo guys, do you think I can survive with this team for a couple weeks in order to get rid of Rooney and Shawcross without taking a hit or using WC? Doing poorly atm but gambling on sticking it out and hoping Firmino and Ramsey explode. So much work needed on this team though, will there be a better time to WC this season?

    Stekelenburg, Fabianski
    Clyne, Azpi, Cahill, Shaw, Shawcross
    Firmino, Ramsey, Ritchie, Mahrez, Payet
    Benteke, Rooney, Deeney

      What you're is:

      A) Courtois, Kolarov, and Williams

      Or

      B) Myhill, Sagna and Azpil

      Id probably go for A

      Aguero, Silva, defensive City player
      Pedro and/or Hazard and/or Costa
defensive Liverpool player and maybe Coutinho
      defensive Man U player
Gomis looks strong in a good Swans team
      Saints due a revival
Attacking West Ham player - Kayoute/Payet?
      Attacking Stoke player - Diouf?

Wilson scored 3 in one game... so what? He blanked in the previous 2.
Mahrez is due to flop alongside the rest of the Leicester team
Kolorov due for rotation once Zab's fit
      Yaya's birthday is coming up

I need help deciding who to bench!

Naughton (MUN), Gomez (WHM), Kompany (WAT), Francis (LEI), Targett (NOR).

    All good home games.
Gomez and Kompany look 100% nailed.
United have struggled for goals, Leicester offer Francis attacking returns, and Southampton look better with the new system.

i haven't got the hang off this price rise and fall malarky...

Is it still worth bringing Mahrez and Kolarov in now despite them being much more expensive than the start? Can I still make money on them?

    A: Targett (NOR H)
    B: Richards (SUN H)

Really close imo. Whats your thoughts? Really appreciate some input on this decision.
