Dugout Discussion

Dugout Discussion – Tuesday

Tuesday night treats us to three more matches as the festive schedule finally starts to wind up.

Bournemouth and Arsenal go head-to-head at the Vitality Stadium in the 7.45pm kick-off, with Olivier Giroud looking to score for the third successive match – the Frenchman opened 2017 in style, thanks to his scorpion kick effort at home to Palace. He starts for the third successive outing this evening.

Second in our Gameweek 20 Captain Poll, Alexis Sanchez is looking for a fifth double-figure haul on his travels, yet faces a resilient Cherries rearguard that’s served up four clean sheets in front of their own supporters. Sanchez remains on the flank as a result of Giroud’s start but has fired in 17 attempts from that position in the last two Gameweeks – more than any other player.

Christian Benteke and Wilfried Zaha will look to take advantage of Swansea City’s dire defence in an 8pm kick-off at Selhurst Park.

The Belgian has the chance to play his way into consideration as the schedule turns in Palace’s favour, though Zaha owners will be searching for a way out after tonight’s fixture as he’s set to depart for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Finally, Stoke City entertain Watford in the other later match as Joe Allen and Etienne Capoue go head-to-head in the battle of the budget midfielders.

With the likes of Matt Phillips and Robert Snodgrass stepping up in form over Christmas, owners of both Allen (one goal since Gameweek 8) and Capoue (a single strike since Gameweek 5), will surely be considering their options over the FA Cup weekend break.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Is Phillips good enough for the 3rd midfield spot?

Currently have Phillips and Snodgrass as my 3rd/4th mids, with money in the bank to upgrade one to around the 7m range. They've done well the last couple of weeks...and they could enable a Kun-Costa-Ibra frontline which i'm happy to run until its clear Aguero is not first choice.

My problem would not be with Phillips, but with whether there is a good enough option cheaper than him to take the fourth midfield slot.

Fraser has been seeping into my brain. Stan is a more well known entity and if he is guaranteed starts could be good for this little upcoming spell.

Problem with that strategy is the inflexibility.

They might be doing well right now, but once they go off the boil you can't even afford semi premium 8.something mids without a hit

good point, quite willing to take hits though - very difficult to pinpoint the right 8. sth mids at the moment. Alli good pick but one could have easily gone with Eriksen instead and missed big points...likewise for Firmino vs Mane.

Already have Phillips / Snod so might play them another week and wait for Coutinho's return to upgrade one oft hem

That's been my inclination too, but I have been wondering whether Friend's return to fitness could yet spell a broader reshuffle in the backline once Barragán is fit again.

Chambers picks up more cards. (Only one in 40 league games last season!) and also has a greater track record of attacking potential so him.

Sorry I wrote that poorly. Friend gets less cards and has a greater history of attacking returns so him.

wildcarded in belerin , already regretting it think theres better value around even with those fixtures, considering belerin and clayton(5th mid) to Daniels and Stanislas (-4), which would mean benching one of phillips or rondon at spurs

Benching West Brom assets at Spurs is sensible imo anyway.

I don't think selling Bellerin is sensible.

But if you do do I do it not playing 2 West Brom players away at Spurs is sensible as well. I would probably ditch one of teh West Brom players ahead of a defender who will likely earn decent points (although I thought he might do well tonight and didn't)

Don't do 3 and 2. Pedro and Willian will be constantly rotated so it will be an issue for you. Willian scored 2 in the last match, so I expect to eat a lot of Pedro's time even if Pedro gets the start. Eriksen to Alli is very much sideways for a hit. Think they will get equal points in 5-6 gws. Alli looks offensive now but you might miss out when Eriksen starts banging them in while Alli sits back. I think you can 1 and also change Origi. Guess you can't get Costa without doing 2.

to be honest a minus 4 is enough with haz tekker and origi out , spurs one is sidewats and baines has city this week anyway so unlikeky to keep a cs , not worth a minus 4

        1. Good
        2. Will give you headaches and leave you with regret
        3. Could go either way
        4. Good for short term, TBD long term. Defoe might be better.
        5. Obviously if you can afford it

3-5-2 might be the answer if your midfield is loaded and then downgrade origi or benteke

Showed it was possible to get a good rank even when every Tom, Dick and Harry had the same captain. Or, maybe, that made it easier bizarrely...

                That, sir, is for Brandy!

Christmas was good. First break in four years where I haven't been dashing here, there and everywhere. Seeing family was good, though it's not the same type of relaxing as those beach holidays in the Seychelles that I can only imagine in long-winded works of fiction.

    Mornign dzz, how we doing?

    - from yesterday:
sanchez scoring as most of my ML had him a captain
    benteke's injury
my daft decision to not do holebas > baines/daniels (-4)...after contemplating so much and coming so close to pulling the trigger, i went with carroll >> benteke (-4)

    + from yesterday:
    Arsenal dropping points 😀
Francis red's card...means that smith should play next few games with their good fixture...

    Heaton -- Grant
Valencia Holebas Smith --- Mcauly Naylor
Hazard Sanchez Pogba Philips --- Fletch

Out of the FPL Cup, will be concentrating on the FFS Cup now..

I want to change remove Siggy from my team and have 0.7 itb...I have 2 options:

    1) Go for a Sub-6m replacement so that I can later upgrade Kane to Aguero if need be. I was thinking Phillips but he plays tottenham next GW so kind of puts it off..plus everyone has him..

    2) Buy an 8m Mid (Don't see many good options tbh)

Swansea have another good run of fixtures later so I think that's an ideal time to revisit once we see where the club goes. I unfortunately dropped him before his assist and bonus (because I'm a mother fn points repellant), but I definitely wouldn't want to keep for now. Ideally upgrade to Alli, but a downgrade to Phillips is also very nice. I'm only focused on ML really and he's surprising not popular in mine.

Sick of my defense though 4 have good fixtures next GW. How to sort out?

    Foster, Pickford
    VVD, PVA, Ake, Holebas, Amat
    Firmino, Sanchez, Hazard, Phillips, Snoddy
    AGUERO, Ibra, Anichebe

    0.1 itb, 1 FT
    (1) VVD to Baines?
    (2) PVA to Brunt even with Foster?
    (3) Foster to Grant and do PVA to Brunt next week
    (4) Downgrade someone and get Rose, Bellerin or Chelsea?

    Thanks!

Which of these the best combo in your opinion?

    A. Lukaku + Stanislas
    B. Giroud + Phillips//Stanislas rotation
    C. Defoe + Walcott (if fit)

B would give depth to the squad, but is Giroud nailed?
A is tricky if Stanislas is rotated, but don't think he will be.
C is tricky if Walcott is eased in, what kind injury is taking so much time to recover...?

    any chance Hazard gets rested?

He's my captain, but if he doesn't play then
Defoe is my vice (2 x 13 pts)
and chambers comes off my bench (8 pts)
for a sweet 21 point increase

I need Hazard to score at least 11 pts to be better off than him not playing

Those fixtures are mighty tempting but I don't want to spend 12m on a LW who will get me 12 points tops. Give me the Alexis who plays upfront and I'm bringing him in with my 2FTs. This Giroud in the side messes up Alexis' productivity.

He has to be a season keeper I believe. Trying to fit him in midseason is never appealing because of his price, given how streaky he is and how it most likely requires a mini-WC (3 transfers). For all you know, you get him for this blanks and sell him for his hauls. That is not entirely acceptable for a 12m mid, no?

Which transfer would be worth putting your money on?

    A. Zaha to Antonio (Crystal Palace Home)
    B. Origi to Giroud (Swansea Away)

    Please help.

Both could pay off, Giroud big time. Zaha though is the bigger problem

    Morning!

Currently got no idea what to do for next week.

Was pondering Pedro or Gylfi to Phillips already last gameweek but never got round to it. Might as well keep Siggy now and maybe the same for Pedro too.

Holebas and Pickford are also on the "sell" list but perhaps I should just wait and re-assess in a week's time?

Got two free transfers. Annoyingly even lost one transfer on Monday as I missed the deadline by one minute.

    Cech Pick
    Alonso Lovren Chambers Pieters Holebas
    Sanchez Lallana Siggy Pedro Carrick
    Ibra Kane Defoe

    2 FT 0 ITB

Could potentially do Siggy and Holebas to Phillips and Rose but not sure if the time is right for those moves now.

Should've got Phillips two weeks ago.

Since August 2014, only one Premier League midfielder (Sadio Mane - 43) has had a hand in more goals than Gylfi Sigurdsson (42 - 23 goals and 19 assists).

Both in my team for 10 weeks and both were doing nothing for the last 2-3 weeks. At least some returns this week.

Over a season Gylfi is great value and I suppose you just have to suck up the 3 or 4 games every now and then that he (just like others) blanks
