Dugout Discussion

Dugout Discussion – Wednesday

The festive fixture list finally draws to its conclusion this evening as Tottenham Hotspur welcome Chelsea to White Hart Lane at 8pm.

Four of the top seven captains for Gameweek 20 – Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Alexis Sanchez, Sergio Aguero and Romelu Lukaku – have already found the net earlier in the week.

The remaining three, Diego Costa, Eden Hazard and Harry Kane, have it all to do, then, with Costa the most popular of that trio – 11.6% have backed the Spain international, compared to Hazard (4.7%) and Kane’s 2.8%.

Costa, certainly, has been the more impressive of the Chelsea pair on his travels – the Spain international has scored eight away goals compared to Hazard’s two.

Yet the league leaders won’t have it easy – Spurs boast the tightest home defence in the top-flight, with just five goals against in front of their own fans.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have been similarly resilient, conceding just one goal in six away matches since Antonio Conte switched to a 3-4-3 set-up.

Nonetheless, many Fantasy managers will be keeping a keen eye on Kane along with Deli Alli and Christian Eriksen, with the fixtures set to smile kindly on Spurs from Gameweek 21 onwards.

The three 8.5 mids that couldn't be separated at the start of the season spent the half way mark within three points of each other. Has Alli made a decisive break, or will the others reel him in?

If you don't watch football how would you know?

Unless you are referring to recent FPL points. In which case maybe you should say "hasn't scored many points recently". That would be clearer and more accurate.

Hmm. Thinks Hazard is in "very poor form" when most pundits have been raving about his recent performances. Worries that an upvote may go to my head (as if that is of the slightest interest to me).

Not much point in continuing the conversation.

Of course nothing. Form is how well a player is performing on the pitch. FPL points result from a whole number of factors of which the form of the player is only one element.

They are not one and the same thing, sorry. And if you confuse them you will make bad decisions as a result.

                  Thanks.

When I said that Alli was a better pick than Eriksen a few weeks back I got all the people who are able to count recent FPL points telling me that Alli was "in poor form" and Eriksen was "in great form".

Fine by me. I'm delighted to have had Alli for the last 5 weeks. And that's kind of the point I was making above. Form and recent FPL points are not one and the same thing.

Yeah, I think we have established that you can count.

5 weeks ago was what I said, not 8. Alli was coming back from an injury before that. I could count the FPL points over the last 5 weeks but that would just be tiresome.

Everyone can see what points players have scored. It takes no judgement or analysis. Repeating them ad infinitum (as you tend to do) is therefore pretty pointless. Don't you think?

With still half the season to go, you are right back in it just roughly 35-40 pts behind top 10K
Well played. Those are the kind of moves that push you up 200K+ ranks.

Just let your plays and decisions do the talking for you, most players on here make decisions based on the market so you will find it tough to find any approval for bringing in players that are not 'template' and/or not rising in value

When I even remotely suggested selling Firmino for Eriksen for a hit back when Coutinho got hurt (GW13-14 i think it was), I got the same exact responses (Eriksen not in form, only scored 1 goals in 12 weeks/Firmino plays better out wide LOL etc etc)

Regression/Progression to the mean is a topic thats rarely discussed on here so just play your game mate and just feed us some valuable insight once in a while

Over the last 6 GWs among mids Haz is
          - 26th for shots
          - 10th for shots in the box
          - 29th for shots on target
          - 11th for chances created
          - 6th for pen area touches

Got a feeling Stanislas will haul over the next three games and pondering these moves:

    Pickford Grant
    Jones Alonso McAuley VVD Amat
Sanchez Mkhi Siggy Philips de Roon
    Costa Ibra Lukaku
    1FT, 0.9 itb

    A) de Roon to Stanislas (bench Philips next week v Spurs - all his returns so far have been against lower teams)
    B) Save FT this week and do Sigurdsson to Coutinho next week (assuming he is fit)

If I go with A, I would be priced out of Siggy -> Cout and would be forced to lose Mkhi ahead of sto, HUL if I wanted to get Coutinho in early for SWA.

Thoughts? Worth it, or stick to the original plan (B)?

Alli becoming essential at the moment? Really hurting me in a heads up mini league.
The only way I can really get him in with 2 FTs is to either get rid of Hazard or...
    Lallana + Siggy -> Phillips + Alli

This would leave my front 8 of
    Haz Sanchez Alli Phillips Capoue
    Ibra Costa Carroll

    Thoughts?

    Current team

    (Pickford) Grant
    Walker Azpi Alonso (Amat Ake)
    Sanchez Eriksen Pogba Phillips (Adam)
    Ibra Costa Carroll

Which one is the best move:

    A. Azpi - Adam - Carroll >> Chambers - Alli - Barnes (-8)
    B. Pogba >> Alli (free)
    C. Azpi - Adam - Costa >> Valencia - Alli - Defoe
    D. Adam - Costa - Carroll >> Alli - Defoe - Crouch/Barnes

    Alonso Rose Valencia
    Sanchez(C) Lallana Alli Pogba Phillips
    Costa(vc) Ibra

    Robinson, Ake, Diomande, McAuley.

On -4 did Hazard & Friend to Alli and Rose. Thoughts?

As I'm currently thinking to do a -8 to bring Alli in then I would love to do a -4 for it lol

Why oh why do they bother.

In saying that, a couple of years ago there was a guy bragging on TotalFPL as he got No1 with a new team, still don't get it though.

I think fpl should have a cut off point for joinING, say GW 5?

Perhaps but they want people to play.
A lot of people discover the game after the season starts and because it's free it makes it easy to join and then get hooked for the following seasons.

    Forster
    Alonso Ake Vertongan
    Hazard Alli Stanislas Lallana
    Ibra Costa Defoe

    Could i Hazard > Coutinho/Walcott for a hit?

    Hazard > Alli?

Would mean owning both Alli & Eriksen but it would enable me to upgrade Pickford and then assess other positions in the few weeks upcoming with my remaining budget.

Exactly 4.0 is tough. There's no-one there with guaranteed minutes. Holgate or Kingsley are probably your best bets, but I woudn't ever want to rely on either to play.
