Dugout Discussion

Dugout Discussion – Wednesday

The festive fixture list finally draws to its conclusion this evening as Tottenham Hotspur welcome Chelsea to White Hart Lane at 8pm.

Four of the top seven captains for Gameweek 20 – Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Alexis Sanchez, Sergio Aguero and Romelu Lukaku – have already found the net earlier in the week.

The remaining three, Diego Costa, Eden Hazard and Harry Kane, have it all to do, then, with Costa the most popular of that trio – 11.6% have backed the Spain international, compared to Hazard (4.7%) and Kane’s 2.8%.

Costa, certainly, has been the more impressive of the Chelsea pair on his travels – the Spain international has scored eight away goals compared to Hazard’s two.

Yet the league leaders won’t have it easy – Spurs boast the tightest home defence in the top-flight, with just five goals against in front of their own fans.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have been similarly resilient, conceding just one goal in six away matches since Antonio Conte switched to a 3-4-3 set-up.

Nonetheless, many Fantasy managers will be keeping a keen eye on Kane along with Deli Alli and Christian Eriksen, with the fixtures set to smile kindly on Spurs from Gameweek 21 onwards.

Ah he is, but not for me.

I'm playing conservative this year and trying not to bring in anyone who has any doubt over game time.

        He'll become Defoe I think

          Ok i dig
          How about
          A Defoe to Lukaku
B Defoe to Diomande or other cheepie and upgrade Capoue and play 352

Lukaku is who I want but I'm 0.9m away from it. I'm watching Hazard closely which would allow Lukaku, or Costa I guess.

I'm also not playing 352 this year haha I find I always want more money up front soon after. Trying to keep a steady team structure

Got in Defoe and Walker for a -4 this week. Very disappointed with Hazard. Should I take a -8 and get Alli/Eriksen instead of him? Leicester away and Hull home sounds very tasty to me though...but his output has been pathetic during the last 5 6 gameweeks...

It's not stunning, but you've put a decent team together for that money so don't worry about it too much. I have a bit more to spend than you and have a similar amount tied up on my bench but you don't really notice the extra cash much in my first 11:

              Heaton
              Alonso - Nyom - Aké
              Sánchez - Hazard - Lallana - Phillips
              Agüero - Kane - Costa

what would you do with this lot? Almost tempted to hit the WC button as too many non-performing players i.e. Carroll, Siggy, A. Smith, Holebas, Pickford, Allen etc.

    Grant (Pick)
    Walker/Alonso/Kosc (A. Smith/Holebas)
    Haz/Lallana/Antonio/Siggy (Allen)
    Ibra/Kane/Carroll

    0.1 ITB. 1 FT

DEF actually looks OK this week so maybe just something like Siggy & Carroll --> Stanislas/Phillips & Defoe for a -4?

Yep. The alternative for me is Chambers away at Watford. Dont fancy WBA will shut Spurs out on recent form, so would rely on attacking points from Brunt. Which he is perfectly capable of producing. Leaning towards Chambers at the moment...

      1. Arctic monkeys
        • 10 Years

Cheers, Kinda thinking the same but the attacking threat from Brunt could be so minimal due to spurs back line and even if they do open up I can rely on phillips to do the dammage. That's what I'm thinking now, could easily change my mind.

          • 8 Years

Yeah that's reasonable. I think Spurs are pretty good at defending balls into the box. So maybe Brunts threat will be minimised?

I made some silly moves. I was trying out some options with the price change deadline looming and then got pulled into real life matters. Rather than hit reset and accept I would be priced out of the moves, I stupidly hit confirm before shutting down the computer. Story of my season. I'm rushing my transfers rather than giving myself time to think about them. I'm guessing I'd still be in LMS if I hadn't made the moves. 🙁

I'd prefer to be treading water in your position than mine. That urge to shake things up was a factor in hitting confirm. Shook things up the wrong way sadly.

Can't complain about my position. Team needs a bit of help so may need a hot or 2 to fix things. A really good GW isn't too far which can take 50% off your rank or more.

you never know with Trollkaku but he is certainly a better option than Origi, so if you can do it for free and have no other pressing issues then i'd say go ahead

I really can't see Giroud as a rotation risk. He's performed coming off the bench, he's performed when he starts...Wenger will definitely see that, and considering Iwobi's performances as well, I can see him going for a midfield three of Sanchez-Ozil-Walcott behind Giroud when all are fit.

I'm taking the punt. With that form and those fixtures, as well as the surprise reluctance everyone has towards getting him, he's a prime differential.

How could and manager drop a player in that kinda form ?
I think it is a lot safer than some of the other options out there and there is big rewards to be had from this move imo

      1. ★Kuntheman★
        • 8 Years

For a manager that gets slated enough by virtually everyone, he'd be out of his mind to drop a player in this form and with the goals he's scoring. I think Wenger likes Giroud too.

He always was going to get a run of games at some stage i think this is it
Giroud is like Wallcott when he is in the Arsenal 1st team you want him in your fpl team

Dangerous. They didn't have many chances but we're clinical when they did.
That being said, Chelsea basically gave Alli free space to recieve the crosses.. bad defending and Eriksens deadly crosses with 2 clinical finishes from Alli basically sums it up.

I've only seen a bit. They both have a tendency to drift in and out a little. But a lot of the good stuff Spurs have been doing going forward has been through Eriksen. Alli is turning up in the right areas and getting in good scoring positions. The trend of the last few weeks - Eriksen assisting Kane/Alli basically sums things up.

So I've bit my tongue after a horrid week dropping roughly 30k places.

Brought in Origi (c) 1 week punt and Friend for Valencia which ended horribly, stuck by and defended Hazard even though my gut was saying to switch to Alli last gw.
Origi > Barnes (hopefully he's still nailed on)
    Hazard > Alli
3-5-2 the way im going after missing Eriksen points this week as I gave myself a rotation headache and played the fixtures over form..

Good moves? Will keep an eye on Hazard before he plays Hull and may bring him back after he drops in price.

    Who to start?
    Barnes (SOU)
    Phillips (tot)
    Brunt (tot)

I'm leaning towards Barnes only because southampton shipped 3 last game and Burnley not doing to bad offensively lately.
The other 2 options are playing a solid defense.

      Aguero syndrome
That is the problem with having all that money tied up in the forwards it does not allow you to be mobile with the rest of your team
Alli is out of reach i am afraid for you unless you are prepared for major surgery you might have to look elsewhere

A horse walks into a bar. The bartender asks the horse if it's an alcoholic considering all the bars he frequents, to which the horse replies "I think not!" POOF! The horse disappears.

This is the point in time when all the philosophy students in the audience begin to giggle, as they are familiar with the philosophical proposition of Cogito ergo sum, or I think, therefore, I am.

But to explain the concept aforehand would be putting Descartes before the horse.
