The Stock Check – Gameweek 20 – Wednesday

Dele Alli scores twice for the third successive Gameweek as Spurs extinguish Chelsea’s 13-match winning streak. Christian Eriksen supplies both assists as Eden Hazard’s form on the road continues to cause concern.

On the Rise

Dele Alli
It’s seven goals in the last four Gameweeks for the Spurs midfielder after scoring twice in the 2-0 win over Chelsea – his third successive brace.

Serving up points in six of his last eight outings, Alli has soared to third in the Fantasy Premier League midfield standings and has now scored 10 goals this term – matching his tally for the 2015/16 campaign.

Number one for transfers in this Gameweek with a massive 166,000+ new owners, Spurs’ upcoming schedule suggests that Alli could keep on delivering as the bandwagon picks up pace – the north London side host West Brom and Middlesbrough and travel to Sunderland in the next four.

Christian Eriksen
While Alli claimed top billing at the Lane, Eriksen kept his tally ticking over by supplying the assists for both the starlet’s goals.

The Dane’s 11-point haul – a fifth double-figure return in eight appearances – took him to fifth amongst FPL midfielders, highlighting his points potential ahead of those aforementioned fixtures.

Indeed, with the 10.9-priced Harry Kane failing to get amongst the goals, the prospect of doubling up on Eriksen (8.6) and Alli (8.4) may prove more appealing for those looking to invest in Mauricio Pochettino’s attack.

The Spurs Defence
With their first-choice defensive regulars all fit and free from suspension, Spurs chalked up an eighth clean sheet of the season last night – second only to Chelsea’s 11.

Mauricio Pochettino’s decision to roll out a 3-4-2-1 set-up bodes well for the prospects of Kyle Walker and Danny Rose, who were both utilised as wing-backs against the Blues.

Indeed, Rose has now produced attacking or defensive returns in each of his last five appearances – an average of 5.1 points per match is second only to Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso (5.5) amongst defenders. He did, however, pick up an eigth yellow card and is now just two cautions from a two-match ban.

The return of Toby Alderweireld in recent matches also looks key. Spurs have chalked up six shutouts in 12 matches with the Belgian on board, compared to two clean sheets in eight without him.

With the schedule now in their favour, investment in Pochettino’s main men at both ends of the pitch looks likely.

In Decline

Eden Hazard
The Belgian’s struggles on the road continued last night – he’s scored just twice away from Stamford Bridge this season.

More worryingly for his 34.7% owners, Hazard’s blank means he’s found the net only twice in his previous eight league outings – a far cry from the performances that served up seven goals and three assists in the first 11 Gameweeks.

Should he fail to pick up the points away to Leicester City next time out, Hazard – who also faces Arsenal and Liverpool in the next four Gameweeks – could see the exodus pick up pace as we look for better value in the premium bracket.

Harry Kane
With Alli and Eriksen bringing in the points again, the Spurs striker left his 13% ownership disappointed by failing to score at home for the third successive fixture.

Although Kane’s 16-point haul away to Watford last time out reminded us of his goal-getting talents, at a price of 10.9, there’s no doubt his appeal is lessened by the more budget-friendly alternatives in the Spurs midfield.

Given that the battle for premium-priced forwards has intensified recently, Kane needs to step up his consistency in order to prevent further sales as we look to Sergio Aguero, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Diego Costa up front.

Willian
A run of four straight starts came to an end last night as Pedro returned from suspension to oust the Brazilian from Antonio Conte’s first XI.

Willian’s brace against Stoke City in the previous Gameweek had suggested he would retain a starting berth at White Hart Lane, offering us a viable mid-price alternative to Hazard.

Yet a 26-minute cameo appearance off the bench confirmed that his acquisition clearly still comes with a major risk, with Conte still somewhat uncertain over that role on the right of the Chelsea front three.

Benteke injury not as bad as expected, keep or sell for Defoe???

Just read that too; scan shows no major damage, though that could still mean he misses next game or two?
I'm in the same boat as you, was going to get Defoe in today for a hit if tekkers was definitely out, but if he's going to be fit for the next game I'd rather stick regardless of price drop

What to do with this lot? Feel that season's already over for me. Kept making the wrong decisions every week (Defoe out instead of Benteke this week for Kun). WC?

Be patient, monitor Benteke's fitness and just use the transfer there if needed. Midfield is a bit lightweight but I like all these players.

Struggling to decide on what to do with my 2 FT this week. 0.0m to spend!

    Randolph Foster

Fair enough. I can see the logic with fixtures, goal threat and Big Sam sorting out their defence (I got Hennessey for the same reason), but feels too much of a risk for £5.2m, given he's got 3 good defenders anyway.

With the money from changing Costa to Defoe (1/2 a point a game difference so far) I get to upgrade Jaku to Randolph, Pieters to Rose and De Roon to Snodgrass.

This gives me a wildcard team of

    Randolph, Grant
    Alonso, Rose, Baines, Brunt, Ake
    Sanchez, Eriksen, Ali, Phillips, Snodgrass
    Ibra, Giroud, Defoe

I like having good cover on the bench and having decisions to make on rotating my players.
Is this team really that much weaker than a team with Costa instead Defoe and 3 poor substitutes.

Who would you spend the money on in the front 8 bar spending a fortune on Defoe to Costa?

Confess, I have a very low TV (101.9) and maybe I'm saying this to feel better about my team, but I think prices are not that important this year given the choices. Priced out of Kun, get Ibra. Priced out of Ibra, get Kane. If not Kane, then Costa else Lukaku. The list is long. Similar for mids, No Alexis then Hazard. No Hazard then Mane. No Mane then Eriksen, else Alli or Lallana. Missing out on your preferred player is nerve-wracking though.

It is the wise policy we might see a few injury s especially after the busy festive period
But that's hard to say to a manager trying to catch price swings lots will act before they are priced out of the market
A steady bench will still be useful in the coming game weeks

    Randolph / Grant
Mustafi - Luiz - Clyne (Chambers, Amat)

    Exact funds.

Interesting one, you didn't bring Kun in for just one game? And he still got some points.

I'd hold. I do have Kane already but see no reason why Kun couldn't outscore him this week, and the following week with Spurs at City I would probably rather have the home player than the away one (although again, Kane still has a chance of scoring more). Be like me and stick with what you've got - no point in wasting transfers on a near 50-50.

        I like B too.

It is basically Heaton, Chambers, Hazard, Barnes vs Grant/Randolph, Leniham, Adams and Costa.

I want Costa more than Hazard but prefer the team the extra Hazard money gives me.

GW22 will be a major selection headache if I choose to bring in Brunt:

    Alonso (HUL)
    Baines (cry)
    Aké (WAT)
    Brunt (SUN)
    Alli (city)
    Defoe (wba)

I'll have the same issue but with Rose instead of Alonso, who I will bench I think. Of those I'd probably bench Baines if Palace look better but I wouldnt be confident at all. Hope for a one week injury to someone!

Wow tough pick. But I would choose to bench either Defoe or Alli out of the lot. But I can't decide which of those 2.

Watford at home looks to me like a sure clean sheet. Besides they let in a lot of goals from set pieces.

I wanted Brunt last GW but did not want to take a hit, I think he has to come in though with those fixtures and with Nyom back he will be the ultimate OOP differential. Need to climb the rankings

Only one is even easier, just Ake.
There's nothing wrong with points on your bench as well as in your team.

What's with the Stanislas mini-bandwagon? I see his name mentioned a lot recently.
Bournemouth have decent fixtures coming up. But is he a nailed-on starter in the Bournemouth midfield?

    1. Hurricane Gilbert

Yes he is a very good differential. Nailed to start, dangerous from open play and on set pieces

He is a great pick and I was pondering him above Philips...but I just think he is too injury prone.

he's maybe the most interesting player this season for me. has been a revelation when fit but the constant injuries just about keep him out the limelight. he suits that eddie howe team perfectly.
also he looks to be on pens when wilson inst on the pitch which is relatively often for first choice striker standards.

wilshere is the one i'm monitoring as he's looking really good lately but stanislas is ridiculously well priced

AB, which of these transfers would you do this week:
Jones to Rose (442), or Carrick to Stanislas (352), or get Alli in for Hazard or Lallana

I got him since his form, fixtures and price suited my plans. I think he's nailed on, but the risk with him is injuries. He needs to stay on the pitch more consistently.

I have a problem in that Benteke > Wilson is the obvious move for my team but I REALLY want Stan....and that would mean ditching Hazard, Sanchez or Lallana.
My gut screams Stanislas. Doesn't help being a Bournemouth boy either!

2FT and not too sure what to do

    Foster Jaku
    Jones Pieters Williams Evans Amat
    Hazard Eriksen Lallana Sanchez Capoue
    Carroll Costa Ibra

    0.4 ITB

Carroll to Defoe if move goes through but what else? Hazard to Alli?

    Cheers

    Foster - Jak

    Love - Brunt - Baines - Akè - Pieters

    Sànchez - Stanislas - Philips - Alli - Lallana

    Lukaku - Giroud - Kane

    2M i bank.

Should I do Kane to Costa / Aguero ?
    Or upgrade Stanislas?

    My team after -12 (hits):

    Heaton
    Baines/Brunt/Jones
    Sanch/Haz/Alli/Mkhi/Phillips
    Ibra/Costa

    Bench: Pick, Amat, Love, Barnes

Tempted to do Hazard -> Eriksen, Mkhi -> De Roon, Barnes -> Defoe, Love -> Ake and Pickford -> Robinson by activate Wildcard. That leaves me 2.6 itb.

Do it and avoid -12 and doing more transfers or save to DGW?

    Heaton,
    Baines, Gibson, Ake
    Hazard, Sanchez, Alli, Phillips,
    Giroud, Kane, Ibrahimovic

Bench: Jaku, de Roon, Brunt, Kingsley

My bench is dog... my thinking is Hazard out next and maybe spread some of that wealth?
