The Knee Jerk – Gameweek 33

With the day billed as a head-to-head between Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku, it was the Spurs man who ultimately came out on top – rewarding those who move to adopt him early to maximise his potential as a short-term differential.

The gap was six points – hardly a huge margin but enough to elevate Kane’s status and ensure that he’s currently second only to Zlatan Ibrahimovic – with Manchester United’s two fixtures – for transfers in ahead of Gameweek 34 so far.

In contrast, Lukaku looks destined for an ownership loss as traffic moves to Ibrahimovic: there is already a deficit with only Diego Costa, and Jamie Vardy sold more among forwards at this point.

Selling Lukaku remains a scary prospect – with 12 goals in ten, 13 in his last eight at home – the Everton striker could easily punish the shift to the United man.

He will face a trip to West Ham, while Ibrahimovic squares up to both Burnley and Manchester City away. With a Goodison Park encounter with Chelsea to follow before we shift to Double Gameweek assets, for many Fantasy managers, today will be the final farewell for Lukaku – a player who has been a spectacular servant since the season’s mid-way point.

Kane is heading in the opposite direction.

While the Spurs midfield is awash with consistent options – a fact demonstrated again in today’s win over Bournemouth – Kane is surely now the premium striker of choice.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are in irrepressible form, with Kane now back installed as the spearhead to feed off the first-class service provided by Christian Eriksen and Son Heung-min in particular.

Kane went into the today’s encounter as part of 590,000 squads, with 251,000 of those owners immediately trusting him with the captaincy.

He was to score and assist for only the third time this season, sealing the maximum bonus to double Lukaku’s six-point tally.

Having delivered on the armband, Fantasy managers are now faced with a dilemma.

Ibrahimovic is clearly being brought in for his two fixtures as the default captaincy option and yet Spurs’ form, even heading into a testing trip to Crystal Palace, is difficult to ignore.

Looking at the past four matches for all sides, Pochettino’s men have scored 13 goals – five more than any other side. They also lead the way for attempts, shots in the box and big chances.

Comparing them directly with United, they’ve recorded 38 shots on target compared to 21 from Jose Mourinho’s side when both sides’ last four matches are considered.

Even if we can be certain that Ibrahimovic will figure in both his Gameweek 34 fixtures, it’s debatable whether he can better Kane’s potential output.

Spurs are seemingly hellbent on maintaining their title challenge, and the striker himself appears focused on closing on Lukaku in the Golden Boot race.

It wouldn’t be the first time that Spurs and Kane have outscored double Gameweek assets and punished those who dare overlook them. In Gameweek 34 last season, they hit four at Stoke City with Kane firing a brace after 200,000 shipped him out.

Nobody will be selling Kane this time around, but it’s the armband decision that looks key.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

He's a bit of a punt as I'm chasing, can he really be trusted to return over two hard fixtures? That makes me nervous.

those of you who still have a Wild card, TC & BB left, when are you thinking of playing them? I cant see anything but a W/C in 35, then TC in 36 on probably Sanchez, then BB 37 as plenty more choices for DGW and I would like to play 15 players with DGW's if possible - anyone else have other plans? I am all ears!

yep that looks the way to go, that is my plan at the moment

only alternative is Ibra or another in DGW34 and then WC in 36 then BB 37

    Not ditching Lukaku for GW34

West Ham have only won 1 game from 20 against teams above them in the table (Southampton). They have not kept a clean sheet against any team above them in the table conceding 50 goals (= 2.5 goals per game). Goals conceded:

Striker: 22 (note includes 4 for Sanchez when he was playing as a striker)
    Midfielder: 24
    Defender: 4

West Ham have injury and suspension problems (Reid, Cresswell, Byram, Ogbonna, Noble, Antonio all out)

West Ham play Everton next (a team above them in the table). Lukaku has scored in each of his last 7 games against West Ham (7 goals in 9 games overall). He has 50% goal involvement this season (30 goals or assists in 60 goals scored)

16 goals and 5 assists in 16 games at home
8 goals and 1 assists in 16 games away

5 of those 8 goals away from home were against two teams - Sunderland (3) and Watford (2).

Given the Hammers propensity to concede, the Hammers record against teams above them, their injury/suspension problems and Lukaku’s record against West Ham Lukaku looks a keeper for GW34 to me.

Anyone think Stones' time will be limited now that Kompany has returned to the lineup? Well, at least until he breaks again.

Spurs have the FA Cup quarterfinal with Chelsea on Saturday and then will be hosting the derby against Arsenal on the weekend after. In between they have a lowly Wednesday night fixture away at CP. Classic trap game.

    Heaton Grant
    Robertson Holebas Davies Holgate Amat
    Zaha Coutinho Snodgrass Alli King
    Aguero Lukaku Defoe

1FT & 3.0 ITB, still have my wildcard and all 3 chips to play, would my best bet be to wildcard in gw36 to bench boost 37? What would that mean for my triple cappo chip, are there any other dgwks I can save it for?

      "Why not both?"

In all seriousness though, Zaha for GW34 but beyond that (and including it), King. I do actually have both. Whether or not Zaha goes depends on his form over the tough upcoming fixtures.

Hey guys, how do I get Ibra into my squad?

Do I need to do Carroll & Sanchez > Ibra & 6.7 mid even though I only have two defenders starting in GW34? Or should I get Benteke & Hazard?

    Heaton - Pickford
    Valencia - Mawson - Brunt - McAuley - Amat
    Sanchez - Zaha - Eriksen - Alli - King
    Kane - Lukaku - Carroll

Good moves, but only if we know Chambers will be in the GW34 squad. He won't play today (parent club is Arsenal), so it's a risky move.

How come Kahzri has to sit on the bench most of the time? Thought he was pretty decent last year. Their best player on the pitch yesterday imo
