Premier League Fixtures Announced

The Premier League fixture list for 2017/18 was published at 9am today, granting us the opportunity to pencil in some likely targets for our initial squads.

Early analysis reveals that only two teams – Manchester United and Championship play-off winners Huddersfield Town – manage to avoid all of last season’s top six in the opening six Gameweeks.

Jose Mourinho’s men alternate home/away for those opening rounds, starting off with an Old Trafford visit from West Ham and a trip to Swansea City before facing up to Leicester City, Stoke City, Everton and Southampton.

Huddersfield, meanwhile, begin their season with a trip to Crystal Palace before back-to-back home encounters with Newcastle and Southampton. The Terriers also face West Ham, Leicester and Burnley in the opening six, suggesting they could play a part in our initial plans.

The new schedule has also been relatively kind to fellow promoted pair Newcastle (TOT, hud, WHU, swa, STO, bri) and Brighton (MCI, lei, wat, WBA, bou, NEW), who both face just one of last term’s top six for the first six matches.

Newcastle’s initial five road trips – Huddersfield, Swansea, Brighton, Southampton and Burnley – look promising, bearing in mind that they accumulated more points on the road than any side in last term’s Championship.

Although Brighton face a testing opening home encounter with Man City, nine of their following 10 at home (WBA, NEW, EVE, SOU, STO, CPL, BUR, WAT, BOU) also offer encouragement, with only a troublesome visit from Liverpool in that run. Chris Hughton’s side earned more points at home than any Championship outfit in 201617, with 12 of their 21 clean sheets arriving at the Amex.

Meanwhile, Spurs’ opening schedule suggests that many will be earmarking a place for Harry Kane from the get-go, with Mauricio Pochettino’s men squaring up to only one of last year’s top six in the first eight Gameweeks (new, CHE, BUR, eve, SWA, whu, hud, BOU).

But Man City have also been handed some kind-looking matches (bri, EVE, bou, LIV, wat, CPL) to kick off their campaign and their main attackers could also be quick off the mark.

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s Champions League play-off matches, which follow Gameweek 1 and 2 clashes with Watford and Palace, are worth bearing in mind – all the more so when you consider that they take on Arsenal and Man City in the subsequent two league fixtures.

Elsewhere, Arsenal’s first five home matches – against Leicester, Bournemouth, West Brom, Brighton and Swansea – could promote early investment, particularly if Arsene Wenger looks to rotate for Europa League matches.

Similarly, Burnley and Swansea have some favourable opening fixtures in front of their own supporters.

The Clarets – who claimed 33 of 40 points at Turf Moor last term – welcome West Brom, Palace, Huddersfield, West Ham, Newcastle and Swansea in their first six at home. However, this is offset by an evil run of away matches (che, tot, liv, eve, mci) for Sean Dyche’s side that will, at the very least, keep Tom Heaton busy between the posts.

After hosting Man United in Gameweek 2, Paul Clement’s Swansea then welcome Newcastle, Watford, Huddersfield, Leicester, Brighton and Bournemouth for their subsequent six at the Liberty.

Looking at the tougher schedules, Everton and Leicester have been arguably handed the most testing opening runs across the first six Gameweeks, with both squaring up to four of last term’s top six.

From Gameweek 2-5, in particular, Ronald Koeman’s side look a no-go area, with trips to Man City, Chelsea and Man United in addition to a home clash with Spurs.

The Foxes travel to Arsenal and United and entertain Chelsea and Liverpool, although this is offset by encounters against newcomers Brighton and Huddersfield.

Finally, just a heads-up that the new fixture ticker for 2017/18 is now live on site – here’s a preview movie entailing the features involved.

Won't make the same mistakes as last season and seasons gone past where fixtures completely dictate who is in my squad come GW1.

My formula, unless Utd drastically improve from an attacking perspective, will be to have atleast 1 attacker from City, Spurs, Chelsea and Liverpool

Southampton have great fixtures but won't touch them unless someone like Tuchel comes in

I like your thinking.Going off the fixtures I think cheapest defence may be the way to go at the start. All 3 promoted teams plus Saints WBA have a kind run.

Yeah, funny seeing people talking about Rondon already. There seems to be a lot of transfer stuff going on this season in terms of the big teams' assets all moving about- but splitting the risk is definitely a good idea.

    Anyone playing Fantasy U-21? http://welltomek.usermd.net/

Looking for some nailed budget options and some 7.0-7.5 nice mid. Also is JWP nailed or Baker better pick? Not sure about my def too.

    First draft is:

    Pickford, (4.0)
    Bellerin, Fonseca, Holzer (Stronati, Rasmussen)
    Asensio, Gnabry, Baker, Lipski, 7.5
    Deulofeu, Selke, Schick

Yes but thing is that I don't know who is nailed so my first team player can not play so a playing bench could be important especially in first game.

I remember the season when Leicester won the title and Chelsea were awful ,I got into a massive heated argument around GW2 about how automatically picking Hazard just because of his reputation is foolish. I was proved right because he was awful and quite a few kept him for ages.

Point is don't take anything for granted. Players can easily gain 'FPL form' just as quickly as they lose it.

Rimmer: I never agreed with my parents’ religion but I wouldn’t dream of knocking it.

They were Seventh Day Advent Hoppists. They believed that every Sunday should be spent hopping. They would hop to church, hop through the service and hop back home again.

They took the Bible literally. Adam and Eve, the snake and the apple, everything. Took it word for word. Unfortunately their version had a misprint. It was all based on 1 Corinthians 13, where it says “faith, hop and charity, and the greatest of these is hop.” So that’s what they did every seventh day. I tell you, Sunday lunchtimes were a nightmare. Hopping around the table serving soup. We all had to wear sou’esters and asbestos underwear.

I'm interested in Lindelof myself...especially if priced at £5.5m and is cheaper than Bailly & Valencia. Will see how he does in pre-season first tho.

      6 years, 10 months ago

6.0. Bailly will probably be that too. I think Lindelof could be our man. Could sneak in at 5.5 since he's the newbie. He doesn't have much of a goal threat and Bailly was also 5.5 when he arrived.

No more than anyone else mate.. last season was a unique situation in the amount of games that were piled into a short period and he was set aside for EL toward the end

I see. I'm just thinking ahead to that extra congested period in the Winter. A Utd defender will probably be a season keeper for me and I want to make as little transfers as I can in defence, at least initially. So the Utd defender I pick has to be the right one and I think maybe we could rely on the of the CBs to not be benched around things such as CL or in the Winter more than Valencia.

I'd say 6.0 but at 6.0 you could get a Spurs wingback or Chelsea rwb - moses will be cheaper than Alonso imo
Those teams play 5atb so higher CS potential and are wingbacks so higher attacking pts potential

Less than a month before FPL launches for next season, but its nearly that time again

    Foster (4.5) 4.0

    6.0 T.Smith (4.5) Olsson (4.5) Nyom (4.5) 4.0

    Alli (10) Salah (8.0)* Pedro (8.0) Sane (8.0) Kachunga (5.5)

    Kane (13) Lukaku/Jesus (10.5) 4.5

*If he signs, he should be significantly cheaper than Mane, so makes sense. Better finisher, guaranteed starter aswell should he join

    Now to relax 😎

First things I've noticed after I've completed my 1st excel sheet of the season...

Southampton and WBA are looking good for the cheaper def picks (Evans again... "shudders"...)
Very good fixtures for the two Manchester clubs.
Foster + Huddersfield/Palace/Brighton/Newcastle GK compo seems like a (very) viable strategy.
Everton with horrible fixtures and also with UEL qualifying games in between (if they make it to the playoff round).
Probably best to avoid Stoke and Leicester players.

I think Aguerro will still be essential this year. He is too expensive to use from the bench, has PL experience and will still be the main striker at City.

    Thoughts??

Yes, would be interesting to see how to fit him and Kane in whilst getting Sanchez. These, to me, would be essential.

      Wasn't essential last year.

Does anyone think Aguero will get a price drop, or is it wishful thinking?

Just thinking that losing penalty taking duties and in and out of the team under pep might make a difference to his overall value. Probably wrong though.

The newspapers today pointed out the killer period of late November to New Year's Day with 10 fixtures. I don't agree with it. Players will start the Christmas period knackered, there will be some serious rotation.
