The Numbers Game – Bournemouth

After assessing Arsenal’s performances over the previous season, our team-by-team analysis continues with a look at Bournemouth.

We’ll compare the Cherries’ displays to the previous campaign and check out their chief goal threats and creators in 2016/17. We’ll also delve deeper into the performances of Josh King from Gameweek 22 onwards in light of the late-season output that made him a must-have for many Fantasy managers.

We will then look examine the lessons learned and assess how these influence our approach to Bournemouth’s assets for the new season.

In a successful campaign, Eddie Howe’s men improved upon their sixteenth place finish in 2015/16 to end the season in ninth position on 46 points, up from 40 points last term.

Bournemouth also increased their potency in the final third, rising from 45 goals scored to 55 – only six sides (the top five and Everton) found the net on more occasions.

      How much will he donate though - what % is it of his salary? Take that same % and apply it to your salary and see if you think it's generous. Let's not be too quick to knight him. This was a tragic event in which the poorest of the poor suffered. The inequality epitomised by outrageously overpaid footballers offering condolence scraps to the bottom rung and getting praise for it is quite ironic. I would like to see a decent % of all premier league footballers' wages fed back in to the poor communities around where their clubs are based, as a rule. Sorry that's just my view, think we need some perspective on BBC headlines.

      His wage demand is a problem. In Bayern Lewandowski and Robben are reported to earn under £200k per week in wages and Alexis would want about £100k more than that. Some reports that PSG would not be interested in Aubameyang anymore and are targeting Alexis again. His wage would still be much more than PSG's highest earner Thiago Silva's, but they did pay Zlatan about what Alexis is asking for. Seems like Arsenal really don't want to sell to a PL rival. I would imagine for Alexis to stay Wenger needs to get some big signings in to please him.

    @Syd: In England, the transfer window formally opens on 1 July, but the transfers between clubs in the same association can take place as soon as the last competitive fixtures for the season have been played. However, many transfers will not be completed until 1 July because many players' contracts expire on 30 June. Players, agents and clubs will be discussing contract terms and final fees long before then though.

    To make it simple, agreements between players and clubs can be made before the transfer windows opens but the club can not register the player before the 1st July (so he cant play for them before that).

      Yeah, I believe so. At some point of this season people already had to pay 11.9m to get him. I will build my team around him like last August but first I need him to sign a new contract or at least confirm that he's staying until the end of the 2017/18 season.

            Kane/Jesus/Sanchez are the big guns...most ppl will be aiming to have all 3 of them for GW1.

            Problem is it makes your squad unbalanced.

            Surely Lukaku is off? For me, Everton wouldn't spend 30 mill on a keeper unless they knew there was a big fee incoming.

            Don't get me wrong - Pickford will likely justify that fee in years to come but few clubs spend that kind of money on that position.

              It certainly sounds like he's off but the problem lies in that nobody knows what Everton really has to spend. If we go off the few things Moshiri has said then it's an awful lot so the Pickford signing is irrelevant to whether or not Lukaku stays or goes.
              Alternatively it could be as you suggest and be a mirror of the Spurs scenario before they sold Bale, as in buying all and sundry. We'll just have to tot the figures up at the end and then we'll know.
              I don't agree with the general consensus that he's definitely off though. Simply because of what happened last summer but I'm a realist and accept it's looking likely.

    Thoughts on this structure for a Kane + Kun 4-4-2?

    4.5 - 4.0
    6.0 - 5.0 - 4.5 - 4.5 - 4.0
    10.5 - 8.0 - 8.0 - 6.5 - 4.5
    13.0 - 12.5 - 4.5

    Bench would be weak but you could still get a good midfield and defence with that. Could downgrade one of the mids to get a playing 5th defender or 3rd striker.

          Benteke is the only 3rd striker I would want unless Austin is nailed. I'm not totally convinced Jesus will be a guaranteed starter next season. I know Pep loves him but the front three could easily be Bernardo, Kun and Sane. Of course the same worry applies to Aguero. Hopefully pre-season gives us an idea of Guardiola's preferred attack.

      If there is a playing 4.5 forward and mid (unlikely imo) then its gtg but the plan could fall apart requiring hits or wildcard to fix.

        There's always 4.5 playing mids. You could also easily downgrade one of the mids to fund a 5.5 mid or forward. Good chance either Kane or Aguero or both could come in 0.5 cheaper than I've budgeted for as well.

      A midfield of Mane, Pedro, Sane, Lanzini doesnt look too shabby with Kane and Aguero up top. All seem likely to fit those prices

        I rather have De Bruyne (bri, EVE, bou) than Sanchez (LEI, sto, liv) for the first three GWs. Could make that switch with two transfers if I feel the need. It is a big decision though. Would make it a lot easier if Alexis is at Bayern.

              Apparently they have a Gentleman's agreement but the valuation still has to be met. As far as the fee goes £50m is surely too low now when you've got Sterling and Stones gone for that and then there's VvD valuation.
