Scout Notes – Pre Season

Huddersfield Town new boys Steve Mounie and Tom Ince score for the Terriers to boost their CVs for the role of budget options in our Fantasy squads.

Here’s the latest pre-season notes.

Bury 1 Huddersfield Town 3

Club record signing Steve Mounie opened his account for Huddersfield Town as the Premier League new boys came from behind to win their second pre-season encounter.

The Benin international, signed from French side Montpellier, was handed a tap-in by Chris Lowe’s fine cross before goals from fellow new signing Tom Ince and last season’s top scorer Elias Kachunga sealed the deal for the Terriers.

Ince’s strike was his second consecutive goal in pre-season as the midfielder, priced at 6.0 and owned by 2.5% of Fantasy Premier League managers, enjoyed another rise in stock.

Midfielder Kachunga – scorer of 12 goals in the Championship campaign – remains on the radar after his converted spot-kick.

His 6.0 price tag in midfield could prove tempting in light of Huddersfield’s kind opening run (pal, NEW, SOT, wham, LEI, bur). However, he is unlikely to take penalty duties from Australian Aaron Mooy, who missed out on Sunday with his pre-season break extended following participation in the Confederations Cup.

Terriers coach David Wagner employed his standard 4-2-3-1 formation, but the absence of no fewer than nine first-team regulars rather diluted the relevance of the encounter.

Tommy Smith (foot), Jon Gorenc Stankovic (ACL) and Michael Hefele (Achilles) were joined on the sidelines by goalkeeper Joel Coleman (knock), Joe Lolley (groin) and Nahki Wells (ankle).

Mark Hudson, who was on a coaching course, and new signing Mathias Jorgensen, who was attending his sister’s wedding, were also unavailable.

Collin Quaner recovered from a knock to make a second-half appearance and set up Ince’s goal, while left-back Scott Malone drew the foul that led to Kachunga’s penalty conversion.

Huddersfield Town XI to 60 minutes: Lossl; Lowe, Schindler, Cranie, Scannell; Billing, D Williams; Bunn, Palmer, van La Parra; Mounie.

Huddersfield Town XI after 60 minutes: Schofield; Malone, Schindler (Edmonds-Green 75), Cranie (Kane 75), J Williams; Whitehead, Payne (Hogg 75); Ince, Kachunga, Quaner; Depoitre.
Sub Not Used: O’Brien.

A reminder that all the friendly results and key Scout Notes are being captured here, in our Pre-Season Guide.

Seems crazy, but what are you thinking?

    Boruc Grant
    Cedric Yoshida Lindelöf Jagielka
    De Bruyne Willian Can
    Lukaku Kane Lacazette

    (Loftus-Cheek Wanyama Francis)

Can seems like a very good option. He added goals to his game and played an ever more important role, also during the summer tournament

Jagielka I'm getting in after the horrible starting fixtures

Might regret not having "real" Liverpool coverage, as in Mané or Firmino

I feel Mané > KDB and Jesus > Lukaku but thats me

A few issues for me; Jagielka, Wanyama, Can, Boruc and Grant

If you want 433 I'd do:

      Wanyama ➡ Tom Carroll
      Grant ➡ Foster
      Boruc ➡ Begovic

If VVD leaves how solid are SOU really? I fear they could easily concede in the first 2 fixtures. Don't know much about the manager.

May risk going without Lukaku - what do you think? WC planned for GW4.

    Foster
    Cedric, Lindelof, Bertrand
    Phillips, Eriksen, Pogba, KDB
    Benteke, Kane (C), Firmino

    (Myhill, Tom C, Yedlin, 4.0)

Bigger risk going without lacazette tbh but apart from that looks alright. don't like the attacking trio of phillips, pogba and benteke. that's 3 out of your attacking 7 that are rather questionable

If Lacazette performs and Lukaku doesn't then yes, you are ahead of the pack. Vice versa, and you are left in the dust due to ownership. In saying that I don't have Lukaku in my current draft 🙂

If Lukaku misses first two games, he'll drop 0.5, and I'll get him in cheaper

Can't see that Man U squad being that much better than last year, why should Pogba play any better than last year?

Pogba's underlying stats last year where great - created a load of easy chances that Ibra, etc missed, plenty of shots on target that were miraculously saved, hit the woodwork 5 times, etc. Plus, Man Utd are in the market for a defensive midfielder to free up Pogba to play more advanced.

looking good but two 4.5 mids in a 3-4-3 formation not a good idea. consider downgrading either kdb or willian imo to upgrade carroll

Thoughts & thanks on my 4-4-2:

    DDG (Elliot)
    Monreal, Trippier, Cedric, Dawson (Francis)
Coutinho, Sane, Zaha/Ramsey, Willian (RLC/T. Carroll)
    Kane, Lukaku (J. Ayew)

A bit iffy on Monreal but he seems to be in good early form. I could go Lindelof or Bertrand but not sure I want to double up in defense.
I've got Zaha in m/f but always been a fan of Ramsey so I've got those 2 bracketed. Also got RLC & Carroll bracketed as that will be decided later. I read that Carroll was on free kicks when Siggy didn't play the other day so if Siggy leaves he could be the one to pick.
    J. Ayew is a cheap enabler but he might get a starting spot with Llorente out & I think he scored the other day.

Arsenal will be among the top for CS this season. They were solid with their bew formation and Wenger has usually been solid. Last was just a blip.

Latest team below; welcome any viewpoints. I feel Redmond and Zaha are worth a go given cost/fixtures, with the rest mostly tried/tested. Firmino Siggy and Alli seem excellent value.

    Foster

    Bertrand Trippier Daniels

    Alli Siggy Zaha Redmond

    Jesus Firmino Lukaku

    Subs: Elliot, Hughes Mee Rosenior

Hazard is injured, Costa has so much uncertainty over him, Defence is too expensive, Willian and Fab might play but then won't when Haz is back. Pedro looks like the best option to me actually

New toy? Chelsea have been in the CL for 13 out of the last 14 seasons. Conte played CL for his last 2 seasons at Juve. It's nothing new for either and it certainly won't be priority #1.

Sometime the FPL pricing system really confuses me. Like why is Bernardo Silva £8.0 this year but Nolito was £9.0 last year

      nolito had scored more goals

Bernardo is less of a direct threat for goals and assists. FPL are also now aware of Pep's rotation, hence Aguero's surprisingly low price.

1st draft. Looks a bit different to a lot of folks - especially front 3.
    Thoughts?

    Lloris
    Lindelof / Azpili / Kolasinac
    Coutinho / Alli / Sane / Zaha / Matic
    Lacazette / Rooney

    Foster / Rangel / Mee / Gayle

No idea where Matic will be come the end of the transfer window. Downgrade to get an extra .5m? Would probably not have Rooney but that's just my feeling. Very Light fronted.

2nd draft without Kane n Kaku, RMT:

    Foster, 4.5
    Milner, Lindelöf, Cedric, 4.5, 4.0
    Pogba, Mané, Alli, Özil, 4.5

Really like it. Keep an eye on whether Elliot is number one - does look to be. If not Myhill may be better as you'll need two strong starters - Myhill will stat if Foster is out with injury.

RLC as your fourth is a risk - but given its helped you afford KDB and coutinho then it looks a risk worth taking.

As a LFC fan I don't like Coutinho this season due to him maybe playing deeper in midfield this year (Klopp alluded to that at the end of last season). Expect a price drop immediately if he doesnt start in front 3 and blanks.

Crainie won't play, he's right back cover for Tommy Smith and apparently we are still in for another right back to he may become 3rd choice.

Mooy is priced well, great player but not sure that will relay itself to fantasy points and as stated above, I don't think he'll be on pens.

Heaton was good to me almost wire to wire but for same price I'm going Forster/ Elliot. I wanted Daniels but have Francis and that may not be nailed. For a 4.5 rotation there must be better possibilities. I have Morgan and Yedlin, and Mee/ Dunk don't rotate anyhow.

Maybe take that .5 and get Fletcher at Stoke who rotates with RCL? IMO good luck.
