Dugout Discussion – Watford vs Liverpool

Saturday’s opening match has big boots to fill.

After Friday night’s opener provided seven goals, the onus is on Watford and Liverpool to entertain at Vicarage Road.

From a Fantasy perspective, the focus is on the visitors’ attack, with Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino strongly backed from Gameweek 1. That trio all boast over 20% ownership, benefitting no doubt from the late fall-out from Philippe Coutinho following the revelation of his transfer request.

The Brazilian misses out through “injury”, while, rather surprisingly, Jurgen Klopp elects to leave James Milner on the bench.

Touted as a potential target ahead of the season kick-off having been classified as a defender, Milner has claimed a 7.5% ownership who will be bitterly disappointed to see their man omitted. Given the absence of Coutinho and Adam Lallana, it is a shock to see him missing from the Liverpool midfield.

Meanwhile, the Reds line-up with two 4.5 options at full-back as Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alberto Moreno earn starts. Their progress will be tracked with interest, with Moreno potentially a real option from this point on.

For Watford, their most popular Fantasy asset Etienne Capoue (7.9%) is another left on the timber following speculation of a falling out with head coach Marco Silva.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

This BPS is fraud really... Convinced that someone who counts it, gives points to players he has 🙂 I mean Salah was nothing special but no way firmino deserve 3 bps and salah none. Salah had 5 shots and made that penalty and convert that firminos lousy shot, coz that wasnt try to assist. And that guy Doucoure deserve all 3 points

There's a system in place, it's not perfect but it all checks out.

It's stats driven. So you can't really argue with it. Back in the olden days it was a bloke in the grandstand deciding, thank Christ those days have gone!

Firmino is a striker who scored a pen and got an assist, no way anyone on the pitch would get near him baps wise

Yea but salah is a midfielder and he also scored a gol and got one assist. So what? I now saw that salah probably got one bps but still...

Just look up how the BPS system works. Forwards get more than midfielders for a goal - it counterbalances that they get 4 points for a goal while mids get 5.

Salah missed a ton of good chances where he didn't even hit the target (2 glorious ones) - He could / should have squared for 2 to claim assists but wasted them sending one over and one wide. He also gave the ball away quite a few times.

Firmino won the ball back as he does every week loads of times, started moves off and linked up well. He had a quiet first half with little support but I can see why the 3 points was his. Arguably turned the game too, solid penalty and then clever run and attempted chip for the 3rd and Liverpool should have claimed all 3 points.

          Makes sense to me.

I'm already fed up with this game; Klopp not playing Milner was absolutely insane, who the hell would play Moreno in defense, AGAIN, when he can't even defend for three seconds?

I was planning on having Milner for the first two games, now i already have to sell him. If you want to bench Milner and play Moreno you should at least have the decency of not conceding three goals.

He lost the ball a few times, a few headless chicken moments and got disposed, a couple passes were wayward. Form scored, assisted and rarely gave away the ball. Simple

Well I'll be sticking with Mané regardless of today's result. It's GW1, he scored, he played well. His goal was sheer individual brilliance. If anyone is thinking of doing any kind of sideways move of Mané -> Salah or switching round for Firmino... I'd suggest you show some patience. You only get 38 free transfers. One game isn't indicative of what'll happen over the course of the season, or even what'll happen next week.
