Dugout Discussion – Arsenal vs Brighton

The first of three Sunday fixtures gets underway at 12pm as Arsenal entertain Brighton.

Alexandre Lacazette boasts some fine home form ahead of the Seagulls clash, with four goals in his first three outings at the Emirates.

The Frenchman is the most captained player for today’s match and third overall in the Gameweek, with 4.5% of Fantasy Premier League managers handing him the armband.

Alexis Sanchez claimed his first returns of the season last Monday against the Baggies and has another chance to audition for those wildcarding over the forthcoming break.

As has Aaron Ramsey – at 7.0, he’s bagged points in all of the Gunners’ home matches so far.

At the back, Arsenal have racked up three straight clean sheets and will face Watford, Everton and Swansea after today’s match. They’ll need to make do without Laurent Koscielny this lunchtime, though, as the Frenchman misses out with a recurrence of an Achilles problem.

Pascal Gross has been the Seagull’s star performer over the opening six.

Priced at 5.7, the German has played a part in four of their five goals and another contribution today could see his 13% ownership rise further.

Would an Alonso/ Sanchez combo be the biggest waste of money in fpl history?

Not on todays performance. Sanchez looks a whisker away from bringing in whopping points. And it's easy to point to Alonso when it goes wrong, but when it goes right it goes VERY right. It just happens Bavies has come along at even better value atm

Alonso will come good and earn his worth.

Just need patience. He didn't score the points he did last season by accident.

    B

Just looking for some more opinions

Wasted an early WC and im now faced with a tricky decision that is making me consider a -8 hit.

    Current team is:

    Foster, Elliot
    Bavies, Jones, Kola, Cedric, Lowe
    Eriksen, Mkhi, Ritchie, Gross, Tarroll
    Lukaku, Morata,Firmino.

The big points there are 0 Kane and 0 Man City... which is leading me to this (Due to the Morata Injury)

    Morata + Eriksen + Mkhi > Kane + David Silva + Sterling

I realise a -8 hit is drastic but would leave me with a much stronger squad I feel, with ManC, ManU, Tot and a little bit of Liverpool.

    Thoughts guys?

Agree with this, Eriksen looked sluggish but should be right against Bournemouth and if Morata is OK to play palace, that -8 could be painful. Just do Mkhi to Sterling or Silva.

The point was to bring in Kane though. Could do Firmino + Mkhi > Kane + Fellaini for next GW to save the -8 and reassess after that?

Only way is to lose either Richarlison or Ritchie and use that amount to upgrade Cedric. I would also upgrade to Davies instead of the City defence

Kolasinac to be moved on? Think Chelsea defenders will be more profitable from now.

    1. Fanta sea
      • 8 Years
      6 years, 6 months ago

      Pros:
      4 cleans sheets in 4.
      Header cleared off the line.
Is a full back that is in the box for corners
      Could've had 2 assists.
In the running for bonus points prior to thee second goal.

      Cons:
"I think Chelsea will keep more clean sheets than arsenal in the next 3 games"

This is a classic example of guessing the future without using the recent past to rationalize the decision. It happens to us all and it's the reason why people kept Gabbiadini for so long when the signs were telling them that it was a bad idea.

      Belief is a dangerous thing

we can only go on form right now and right now it's looking promising. No need to sell when they're on a high when you don't have to.

right. Although if you want to assess how they've played recently, then they've also impressed. Fergie used to talk about Momentum being key and I think we're going to be seeing that with Arsenal as they come up to the games against city and spurs.

At the very least the next 3 games will be crucial for arsenal so I see them giving it their all

Arsenal are not the most solid at the back, but their ball retention at home invariably leads to clean sheets. 12 clean sheets last season is hardly terrible, and their wing backs will score well in attack.

Chelsea are regressing this season - they've been poor in two big games, and their lack of squad depth is going to have an effect. As is the fact that teams are getting wise to the 5 of the back tactic. I expect Chelsea to be worse defensively and Arsenal to be similar, but with the transition from full backs to wing backs bringing more attacking returns for them.

Whereas Chelsea are already a solid defensive unit with decent fixtures.

Seems like you are the one with the belief regardless of the facts.

Don't get me wrong, I have Kola, and I'm probably keeping, but you have no idea why Pirlo's Pen thinks that Chelsea defenders are better prospects. In fact I'd argue it's the common sense view.

Yh sucks for him. Their problem isn't so much Rooney but it's a combination of slow transition on counters and trying to fit both Gylfi and Wayne in the same team. Neither player can play on the wing and it's useless having both in the middle.
