Technical Area – The Man City Midfield

Through the first two months of the season, no side has scored more frequently than Manchester City.

In their second season under Pep Guardiola’s tutelage, City have averaged more than three goals per match to open this campaign and already look to be mounting the strongest title challenge on show.

With Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus as options in attack, we are blessed with two obvious routes to investment. However, reading Pep Guardiola’s intentions with the pair remains a test, made all the more difficult by the news of Aguero’s return to light training following his rib injury.

Just as Gabriel Jesus seemed cemented in the central attacking role, suddenly Aguero’s return seems more imminent, casting further doubts on the likely minutes of the pair over forthcoming Gameweeks.

So, instead, our attentions are drawn to City’s midfield in an effort to achieve coverage of this potent attacking unit while we wait for the striker situation to resolve.

In this article, we’ll be running the rule over three mid-priced Manchester City midfield options – David Silva, Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling – alongside the more expensive Kevin De Bruyne, in an effort to ascertain where best to seek value from this side over the coming Gameweeks.

Who you think is the best option for budget forward, max 5.7mil:

    Calvert-Lewin?
    Niasse?
    Abraham?
    Ayew?
    Joselu?
    Okazaki?
    Diouf?

I have Calvert Lewin in the hope he turns into the next Harry Kane. Having watched EV v Bu it doesn't look so. Maybe Okazaki, at least you know what you're getting.

I've been thinking the same. Everton should be best team out of those just we do not know who is going to start. Niasse looked sharp against Burnley. Diouf playing as a winger, Stoke fixtures improving? Okazaki not sure if nailed? Joselu cant just hit the target. Ayew, Abraham, Abraham more nailed?

I would say: Abraham, Joselu, Diouf

You lose the FT, mate, as it's a chip. Also, in the next gameweek, you are returned to your original FPL team as though you never did make that FT.

Right then - feel like I might be getting close to deciding on my final WC team. Any thoughts?

    Elliot - (Joel Pereira)

    Azpi - Otamendi - Davies - Jones - (Mee)

Sterling - Hazard - ChoMo - (RLC) - (Lewis Cook)

    Vardy - Jesus - Kane

    0itb.
Plan is to rotate Mee and ChoMo, therefore switching between 5-2-3 and 4-3-3.
Plenty of flexibility, key City and Chelsea players ... am I mad?

azpilicueta or alonso? i can manage funds for both so thats not an issue, but I feel inclined towards Azpi since he has been doing really well, but alonso might explode and now and I don't wanna regret not having him because I own him since the start.

here's something crazy that i thought i'd never say , i'm considering benching Salah for T Carroll for this weekend , i just have a feeling the Pool game could be goalless for the second year running or maybe utd just nicking a 1-0 since we all know mou loves to park the bus in big games + its an early Saturday kick off with Firmino & Cout just getting back from long flights + no Mane , also i think Swansea will beat Huddersfield and Carroll is overdue a goal or an assist or something , so with all things considered its maybe not that crazy a decision after all

Agree with your Liverpool analysis, just don't think Carroll will score you points against an organized defence either.

I really like it - although I don't see the point in spending the extra 0.5 on Fabs when you'll want to play Elliot more than half the time anyway. I would use any extra half-mil to turn a 4.5fwd into DCL. He's played in every game so far and Everton can only get better. Also consider ChoMo ahead of Richarlison for the next few months - his xG is higher - also frees up cash. But that's still probably the best 4-4-2 I've seen. Good luck.
