The Community Round-Up

The international break has prompted a number of community members to deploy their Wildcards in the hope that new faces can trigger a charge up the rankings.

Our community articles focus on the main issues for those Wildcarders, while our Hot Topic posters offer a wealth of advice for those keen to refresh their squads.

Players who carry a strong aerial threat are the focus of our latest Members’ tables and we finish off with a look at the Fantasy managers currently leading the way in our mini-leagues ahead of Gameweek 12.

The Community Articles

Greenwindmill and Andy launched our latest Rate My Wildcard Team Surgery by revealing their draft plans. In the ensuing discussion, the best budget defenders and preferred quota of premium strikers were among the topics of concern for many.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topic

The Wildcard chatter also dominated many of our Hot Topics, with Hurricane Gilbert canvassing views on the best differentials to acquire. Sanchez delivered a warning that a strong 15-man squad will be needed to cope with heavy Christmas rotation.

Plenty of you without a Wildcard, or resisting the urge to play it, are still looking to overhaul their squads in preparation for the busy winter period, even if it means spending points. Foley200 asked for your views on how many hits we should be taking across a season.

Among those being ushered out at pace is Spurs’ Christian Eriksen, who has been ditched by more than 58,000 FPL managers this week. Andy85wsm wondered whether the Dane should be retained given his strong upcoming fixtures, including home encounters with West Brom, Stoke City and Brighton and trips to Leicester City and Watford following the derby clash at the Emirates.

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah is unsurprisingly the top target in midfield, with more than 138,000 FPL managers recruiting him this week following his brace and 15-points against West Ham last time out.

The Egyptian’s growing influence in Fantasy football was among our lessons learned from Gameweek 11 and also for many of those who responded to our rough with the smooth round-up of your latest highs and lows, as well as those flying high in Live Hall of Fame update. As Kun Tozser pointed out, drafting in former Chelsea players such as Salah has proved canny this season, with Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne joining the list of ex-Blues on the scoresheet.

Another player who is arguably surplus to requirements, according to Royal5, is Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, who has been dumped by more than 44,000 FPL managers following just a single goal from his last five outings.

There were plenty of community members keen to put forward alternative options, with Hymie delving into headed goal attempt statistics to unearth a number of kindly-priced forwards.

Meanwhile, Pirlo’s Pen believes that Everton’s Oumar Niasse could be a potentially lucrative third striker.

The 4.9-priced Toffee enables a strong focus on midfield, which is an issue Pariße discussed in his look at two-striker formations. Limiting premium priced options up top was also deliberated by Andy85wsm.

Ensuring that your strike force offers compelling captaincy options is a key consideration, with We Will Klopp You urging Fantasy managers to leave the armband on City’s Sergio Aguero, who has attacking returns in all but two of his eight appearances, including a pair of double-digit returns.

Romelu Lukaku is another being considered for the captaincy after the international break, with the Manchester United frontman taking on Newcastle then Brighton at Old Trafford.

Berbinho’s Forehead urges caution due to these promoted sides boasting strong defensive numbers on the road, although the potential return to the Red Devils’ line-up of long-term injury victim Paul Pogba could yet ensure that the Belgian prospers in front of goal, argues Boc610.

When to captain Harry Kane is proving season-defining for many, with the Spurs striker’s blank against Crystal Palace in Gameweek 11 the fourth time he has failed to find the net against “easier” opponents at Wembley Stadium this season.

We considered whether the possession statistics of the teams that Kane is facing could be worth monitoring more closely when considering him for the captaincy again.

Whether Wildcarding or not, many of the community believe their defensive line-ups could do with a spring clean. We asked who was top of your defender watchlist and Half space also canvassed views on the best rearguard options.

West Ham are also ringing the changes, with the Hammers deciding on David Moyes as the successor to the ousted Slaven Bilic. Deano wondered whether the former Everton, Manchester United and Sunderland manager can revive West Ham’s fortunes, while Doosra penned some verse in ode to the departing Croatian.

Finally, AceK1ght has used the break to invite the community to assess how they are faring in terms of their targets for the season and we asked for your views on the best solo performance of all time on the international stage.

To view all our discussions please visit our Hot Topics page.

The Members’ Tables

Ambergmbler has been investigating those who are “due” to find the net among our expected goals statistics, while imax123 has been exploring the best budget midfielders (priced at 5.5 or under) from Gameweek 12 onwards.

Third strikers come under scrutiny in my latest table and Hymie has added two tables to compliment his Hot Topic on headed goal attempts, looking at the players who are the most dangerous in the air and the defences they should prosper against.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

In TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing competition (44937-13340), Espanyolo and Ria Breeze hit the top score in Gameweek 11 with 84. There are over 2,200 teams left after 174 were eliminated when the safety score was set at 34. Entry is currently open over the break.

Stewart Latham is top of Red Lightning’s Top 10k Any Season league, displacing Elvar Mar Sigurdsson, who remains at the summit of the FFS Members League.

Damir TeNay still leads the main FFS league and is still second in the overall standings, 12 points behind overall leader Joe McFadden.

It’s all change at the top of the FFScout Moderators and Contributors league, where Jack Wain takes over from Uwais Ahmed at the top.

Joga Bonita V is in first place in HeelsoverHead’s R U Smarter than top 10K club, for those who have yet to finish the season with such an illustrious rank.

Meanwhile, it’s tight at the top of QPR Utd’s Frequent Summer Posters League, for the community’s chattiest members over summer – ZoumasBloomers is level on points with FC Lackless, but takes top spot on transfers made.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round-ups, please email us a summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spreadsheet or head-to-head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Oh Azp - what on earth possessed me to part with you for the funds so easily last week...? Now your replacement Jonesy is crocked (as I should have foreseen) and the alternative and seemingly obvious switch of Davies > Brighton defender (couldn't stretch to Jones as also 'needed' Kane) would have reaped additional rewards. I hate my lack of judgement this season - get in a great differential and chuck him prematurely for fear of lack of Utd cover 🙁

Is it a good idea to do Eriksen -> Richarlison? Richarlison close to a rise and Eriksen might fall before IB is over.

I did Eriksen to Sane already as Eriksen has been playing deeper & has lost some set pieces. I'd rather move him on for a gun as opposed to Richarlison.

risky but not the worst -8 i´ve seen. Jesus is risky to loose but also a rotation risk and you have Kun there so Morata makes you more safe regarding pitchtime and also captaincy a factor here to consider. vvd was for me a punt hoping for goals and cs, and they now entering a horrible set of fixtures so seems like a smart move although if you save him for Everton you have decent defender next gw. Surman- Richarlison is a transfer that is good and the argument of price is a factor ofc. You could go Dunk and save the 0.1 and then maybe have the possibility to wait?

If he gets taken off on 60 min City(& Kun) are probably doing well. If he gets brought on to save a game I still trust that City team(& Kun) to score.

Kun/City much more explosive at the moment than ManU, so if we are lucky Kun might might match a "nailed" on Lukaku(Hello Ibra...) over the Festive Season.

He might even outscore Lukaku with limited gametime. It's not as if he hasn't done it so far...

Sounds good in theory but Pep won't help you nail the captaincy.

Last few weeks of uncertainty has messed up many, not sure I'm brave enough to gamble on the captaincy when the games are coming thick and fast.

Kane has been just as uncertain a captain pick while playing all the matches if Aguero were to miss 1 match every so often when you captained him then it wouldn't be such a big deal, Pep mentioned a figure of 90% of the matches, then it wouldn't be such a big deal. Anyway I'll still be captaining Kane when most of the time

No, Kane is not, by that logic, all C picks are a risk as you're unsure of who will score, what we are talking about is if you C suddenly gets benched (as both Aguero and Jesus have) that doesn't happen to Kane.

This and also, people keep mentioning his PPM and I agree it's great, but in his last 2 games, he's only scored 2 penalties. Does he really have higher points ceiling than Sane and Sterling who are much cheaper? I'm not convinced.

But penalties are a big plus with Kun, City have the players who can win penalties so wouldn't be a surprise if they were to get the most amount of penalties this season

But penalties are just a bonus though. I don't know about others, but I don't gamble on picking a player just because he's on penalties. For costing 3m+ more than Sane and Sterling, he needs to offer more. And he isn't even the greatest penalty taker. Misses fairly often.

I mean, how is Aguero a better pick than Morata? Morata is nailed, much cheaper, focal point for Chelsea, has some great fixtures coming up.

Yes with current info, for one thing City are far more potent that Chelsea & need more assurances about Morata's ability to haul. Not gambling on him because he's on penalties, that's just a plus. I'm gambling on him because he's Kun in a City side that could break the number of goals in a season record with some great fixtures coming up shortly.

Great point Corky, Sane and Sterling double up with say Lukaku and Morata instead of Aguero feels much less of a worry over this upcoming congested period.

Think it's clear now that Pep won't go back to playing two strikers.

Agree, Sane and Stirling plus a defender covers City nicely for the upcoming fixtures.

I wouldn't be keen on captaining any City player so less captain options available if continuing with Jesus/Kun.

He's scored a hattrick there but he's not the focal point. City don't have a focal point. If they did, Sane and Sterling wouldn't be scoring this often. In the next game against Palace, Sane and Sterling outscored Aguero (one of many occasions). City just have multiple goalscorers.

Sterling scored a hatrick last season if I'm not mistaken, not sure they have to score a hatrick anyway when they are priced 3m less.

So far, they are staying with him for goals.

Yes there is rotation but he is still out scoring other players despite this. He also was injured due to a car crash which explains a fair amount of his absence and the 120 minutes he had to play against Wolves. Aguero is worth the captaincy I think, sure City players are rotated heavily but we have seen in many games the likes of Sterling and Jesus come off the bench and still return points.

I take your point but just wonder why you would risk it every week.

Take this week as an example, 48% of the game own Lukaku and a lot of those will captain him, why would you risk going against that in the hope that Aguero gets a start as C?

If the risk is too big to C him doesn't he become an expensive version of Sane or Sterling who also play in the attacking areas for City? Aguero has scored 8, Sterling 6, think Sane has 8.

It does make sense. You just don't understand the concept of captaincy and/or points per million then.

Aguero (without captaincy) has scored 15 points from two penalties in his last 3 games. With captaincy, he would've scored 30.
            Sane has scored 26.
            Sterling has scored 12.
Morata has scored 14 himself and can be captained, in which case he would've outscored Aguero.

All of these options are much cheaper. Why do I need to spend 11.8m then?

      No imo.

If City are winning there’s a good chance he goes off between 60-70.

If he’s on the bench there’s a good chance he comes on.

Jesus is Pep’s guy and he is the future. He will take minutes away from Kun.

I own him. I bought him for 11.6 and he's still in my WC team. Loads will be going with Lukaku C so it's a massive gamble to go without Lukaku. I think Kun is Peps main striker and his upcoming fixtures are great. He is worth a gamble.

captain next week at least and he is the main striker in the most scoring team in PL (when he plays he is always the striker while Jesus also plays wide in some games when they play together)
Doesn´t necessarily a bad thing coming on the last half an hour, Jesus should have gotten 2 goals within his last game, and the only "risk" to me is if he comes on as a sub "to late" but it seems like Pep change relatively early so ain´t a bother til this date.

Not at the moment, too much fixture congestion and chance of a cameo. His comments about moving to Argentina won't help him either. Plus, for the foreseeable future, either Kane or Lukaku or both have a good fixture each week.

      Not imo.

A lot of people got stung by captaining different City players over the last few weeks and rotation is only going to increase as fixtures pile up over Christmas.

Captaincy has a large element of luck as it is. Trying to predict when and where Pep will rotate Aguero adds another layer that I'm not particularly interested in when there are other perfectly good captain picks elsewhere

half the reason his ppg is so good is because he's missed so many games. give him another 5 games and it'll start trickling back down. the watford game made him, before then he was a differential and he's arguably a worse option than back then as at least back then pep was trying to shoe-horn him and jesus in, now it's seemingly one or the other.
also it hasn't really been talked about a lot as 2 penalties have bailed him out but he hasn't looked too hot* since the rib injury. ideally i think we still need an injury to at least one of jesus, aguero, sterling or sane in order to invest in the man city strikers.

*apparently he looked a lot better today against russia.

Kolasinac out, Daniels or Dann in.

Then in the coming weeks you have to get RLC instead or Cork, and upgrade Vardy to Morata; if you need more money to do so, maybe get rid of Eriksen for a cheaper mid like Zaha, Richarlison or Gray. You will also need to upgrade Hunemeier to a nailed on defender, because the fixture schedule is sick around Xms and you will need to have a 'playing' bench.

In short, if you have your WC, it might not be that bad an idea to play it now.

2, 3 and 4 i think is best for my team atm. b is the most unlikely as even if one of them is injured or something they will still be rotated (we seen that with Davies). I have tried to plan ahead and i think i have landed on courtois and aldeir/vert if things stay like they are, but could easily be LLoris and Christensen/Luiz/cahill depending on circiumstances. As for now option one is the safest, but i have an alternative option where i could get Lloris and Azpi/Alonso which has probably a better chance of attacking returns.

    My thoughts are
Kane - good for a goal
Aguero - greatest upside, greatest risk
Sane - could be a sneaky pick that pays off massively but isn't his sides main threat
Salah - Could do well but we (Liverpool) can, to a lesser extent this season, fail to deliver in these winnable games

Planning on Firmino>Morata but giving Firmino the Soton match so if I go the long winded way at the back this move is delayed a week!

    Foster
    Davies Bailly Kola
    Salah(c) Sterling Silva Gross
    Firmino Kane Diouf

    Myhill Carroll Suttner Long

Davies should play this gw so get Morata, seems to be getting closer to a rise if that will affect you

But if you're set in keeping Firmino as you mentioned then get a Brighton/Burnley def this game and do the Davies move next gw

    Jesus + Eriksen + Mbemba to Lukaku + Sane + Mee (-4)?
    Have to play Morgan otherwise.

Thanks! I'm holding my Jones move. Have Ota, Davies and Kola. Two of them will become Jones and Daniels in the coming weeks.

    On Wildcard:

    A) Zaha, Surman, Wimmer.

    B) Alonso, RLC, Stephens.

I can’t get zaha and RLC because I’d have too much Palace!

B, Chelsea defender more neccessary than Zaha

Thanks, yeh their fixtures are nice and I think they will reel off the wins til Christmas. I was on A and leaning towards B now, RLC played well last night.

Is having Salah, Mane & Firmino too much Liverpool?
Just think with everyone back including Coutinho & Lallana after the IB and good fixtures they could really kick on and start scoring a lot of goals.
For instance Mane looks a lot more dangerous and like he is going to start bagging s lot more points than the likes of Eriksen who can be frustrating with his 2/3 pointers

Yes, a triple up is overkill imo and don't particularly think Firmino is a good option anyway

Yeh I had eriksen and Alli before and they were disappointing overall. Personally I’m not afraid of doubling or trebling up, it’s only a game and the potential reward can outweigh the risk. To be honest I’m not sure on Firmino. He’s no longer on pens and you can get morata for another 1.8m. King or Murray would be decent downgrades and then you could upgrade a mid

I am going for 352 on wildcard. Thinking about doubling up on pool attack.

Only if I downgrade Kane to Aguero, I can Get Mane. As already have Salah sterling and Sane, I will basically depend only on city and pool for attacking points, this is the only thing that’s bothering me

Think there is more probability of Burnley v Swansea ending 0-0 than Abraham scoring so Naughton
