Sky Sports Focus

Time for our weekly Sky Sports Focus article where we take a look back at the recent action before preparing you for the incoming Gameweek.

We’ll examine the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, the bonus point beneficiaries, transfer trends and Watchlist, before moving on to the Scout team and our future plans.

Gameweek 16 Man of the Match Awards

These were the players who caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters and earned an extra five points as a result.

Undoubtedly the star of the Double Gameweek was the Premier League’s top goal scorer, Mohammed Salah.

The Egyptian picked up the award in both of his fixtures, despite starting the second clash on the bench.

He’s now the games leading scorer by an impressive 24 points and also tops the MoTM table with six awards.

Interestingly, Salah is also now the game’s most popular player, with 47.1% ownership, having overtaken Romelu Lukaku in midweek.

Somewhat surprisingly, the next highest owned player to feature here is Wayne Rooney (7.4%) in what was a good week for differential picks.

And speaking of which, Raheem Sterling (6.9%) continues to go under the radar and is now the third highest scoring midfielder overall – at a cost of just 9.8.

Gameweek 16 Bonus Points

Let’s take a look at any player to earn 23 points or more in bonus for the season

Watchlist

Here I aim to highlight a few differential players with low ownership who I think could be good options for the coming six weeks.

Three specific price brackets will be used to cater for our available budgets.

The players will evolve with fixtures and form, and offer Fantasy managers a nudge in (hopefully) the right direction.

Notes

I used three transfers over the double, with Andreas Christensen, Davison Sanchez and Leroy Sane all coming in.

None of them set the world alight, unfortunately, but looking ahead I’m confident an upturn in points is just around the corner.

Like many, my midfield was hit by mass rotation during midweek but, luckily, captaining Harry Kane and then Kevin De Bruyne helped my team to tick along, maintaining my rank from last week.

I now only have one transfer “pencilled in” for the foreseeable future, which will be Kiko Femenia to Phil Jones upon his return from injury.

This will give me a back four made up of some the best teams’ defences in the league, but at a very kind price – a rare and strange experience for me having historically always gone for bargain options at the back.

Whether this experiment will bear fruit I’m not entirely sure, but each season is unique and we have to try and adapt, something I’m trying to correct in my play style after remaining too stubborn in recent times.

Wish me luck as I venture into the unknown.

Captain Plan

Sat 2nd – Hazard (vs NEW)
Sun 3rd – Sane (vs WHU)

Depends on the definition of “great sportsman” I suppose. Mine would be the best in their discipline, over an extended period and still historically recognised as such.

Your definition is far too narrow imo . It rules out players like Cristiano Ronaldo or Messi etc ... I could go on and on about people who have enjoyed tremendous success just because they have not been the best

Agreed, but the question wa “the greatest.” That in itself should define those within their sport that are the most elite. From Football, Pele would be my pick.

But you said ''Ali wasn’t a great sportsman, he was a great showman'' . I mean he won multiple world heavyweight titles , he beat some of the best heavyweight boxers in his history and we arguably missed out on his prime years due to him being in prison . There is definitely a difference between great and greatest that was all I was trying to say .

In 1966, two years after winning the heavyweight title, Ali further antagonized the white establishment by refusing to be drafted into the U.S. military, citing his religious beliefs and opposition to American involvement in the Vietnam War.[12][14] He was eventually arrested, found guilty of draft evasion charges, and stripped of his boxing titles. He successfully appealed the decision to the U.S. Supreme Court, which overturned his conviction in 1971, by which time he had not fought for nearly four years and thereby lost a period of peak performance as an athlete. Ali's actions as a conscientious objector to the war made him an icon for the larger counterculture generation.[15][16]

Ali is regarded as one of the leading heavyweight boxers of the 20th century, and remains the only three-time lineal heavyweight champion.

It depends on whether you're interpreting "greatest sportsmen" as purely for sporting ability.

Muhammad Ali was so much more than a sportsman. A truly amazing person outside the ring.

200+ pts. Just nail your captaincy

Really considering Sane as an captain option. City look poor without him. Even if he gets benched, can't see Pep bringing him on to risk a suspension unless City are chasing the game so then Kane comes in as my vc. Anyone else thinking the same?

My GW15 squad - what do you reckon, especially wrt my captaincy choice and subs order off the bench? Thanks in advance!

    Pope
    Azpi - Daniels - Otamendi
    Gross - Sterling - Hazard (C) - Salah (VC) - Richarlison
    Vardy - Morata
    Subs = Elliot
Niasse - Moreno - Mee (in that order off the bench)

    Captaining KDB over Kane/Salah/Morata.

    Starting Klavan over Duffy.

    Madness on both counts?

Don't think you can call that easy. He absolutely COULD be, but we can also see that so far he is a different case to sterling/sane. His minutes much more closely mirror Silva, though Silva is ancient so perhaps KdB doesn't need it

The fact Silva was rested midweek worries me a little...

You're probably right, fancy City to beat West Ham comfortably and only have KDB and Sane though. Can't choose a captain to save myself these last few weeks, maybe i should toss a coin between Kane and Salah?

Best keeper up to 4.4? Grant is tempting but would need to transfer him out again in a few weeks. Foster or Hennessey seem best bets?

    Not swapping Ben Davies (2 - 1 - 1 - 2 last four outings) to Andreas Christensen (7 - 6 - 2 - 6) would be criminal wouldn't it?

Thinking it's time to cash in on Ward next gw and get rid of rosenoir, I'm very hesitant to double up so pretty pointless having him seeing as I have Pope, would be looking at getting 2 of Kenny, Dunk and Zeegelar in. Any other defs 4.4m and under I should be considering?

I have 2m in the bank and 1 free transfer. How would you improve this team, or would you save?

    Fabianski

    Mee - Kolasinac - Otemendi

    Hazard - Salah - Sterling - Brady

    Kane - Morata - Niasse

    Bench...Elliot - Naughton - Mbemba

    Thoughts on this...

    Alli + Mbemba + Krul -> Ramsey + Christensen + Pope (-8)

    My other GK is Elliot.

Anything needed for a hit? (2.0 ITB) Defence is a turd but it'll pass?

    Courtois (Elliot)

Yoshida / Davies / Gomez (Ward | Hegazi)
Salah / Hazard / Sane / Surman (Stephens)
    Kane / Vardy / Abraham

    I have the following team:

    Fabianski,
    Maguire Otamendi, Ward
    Salah, Choupo-Moting, Richarlison, Carroll, Pogba
    Kane(c), Vardy, Morata

    Elliot , Lascelles, Hünemeier

    1 FT, 1.4 ITB.

    Should I

    A) change out Fabianski for DDG
    B) get a stronger midfielder (can't get Hazard)
    C) or save the 1 FT

Any advise would be great.. Pls help.
