Sky Sports Focus

Normal service is resumed with our weekly Sky Sports Focus article on hand to prepare you for the incoming Gameweek.

As always, we’ll examine the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, the bonus point beneficiaries, transfer trends and Watchlist, before moving on to the Scout team and our future plans.

Gameweek 21 Man of the Match Awards

These were the players who caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters and earned an extra five points as a result.

We need to talk about Kevin once again. Mr De Bruyne recovered from injury to put in another Man of the Match performance and take his tally to eight for 2017/18. Eleven awards has commonly been the most earned by a single player over the last five seasons but the Belgian is well on course to top that.

Compatriot Eden Hazard (six) and the game’s second most popular player, Mohamed Salah (seven), moved into third and second place respectively in the MoTM table, while the only other player with significant ownership to feature was Christian Eriksen (19.1%).

He has returned to form of late, only failing to score over five points in one of his last eight matches.

Gameweek 21 Bonus Points

Let’s take a look at those players who have earned 34 points or more in bonus this term.

Here I aim to highlight a few differential players with low ownership who I think could be good options for the coming six weeks.

Three specific price brackets will be used to cater for our available budgets.

Notes

Up to 153rd, but at the expense of a couple of transfers.

My beloved Philippe Coutinho left my team, so I was kind of forced into that one. Thankfully, another one of my favourite players, David Silva, returned at the perfect time for a direct swap. With Man City dominating both the league and the bonus point system, it felt like the logical move.

The other trade was something of a vanity transfer, although an injury to Mohamed Salah also helped nudge me to make it.

In came Christian Eriksen (and his 18 points over the two matches) due to him having four fixtures to the Egyptian’s one – and the one is Man City at home.

I’ll be watching that match “Salah-less” for the first time this season. Wish me luck people.

Captain Plan

Sat 13th – Kane (EVE)
Sun 14th – De Bruyne (liv)
Mon 15th – Phil Jones (STK)

Anyone playing a 451 formation or thinking of moving to it? I am thinking of downgrading DCL and just going big on def and mid...

Or is it too inflexible with money spread around the defence?

    1. HurriKane
      • 11 Years
      6 years, 3 months ago

      4-5-1 is too inflexible.

When likes of kane lukaku morata lacazzete aguero firmino starts firing on all cylinders you'll need major surgery to get them

Will they though ? We are over half season in and neither strikers established himself as a "firing on all cylinders" type of guy.
At the same time there is many juicy midfield options.

4-5-1 is quite a useful formation due to lack of reliable strikers in the game. But make sure you have a squad flexible enough for you to change the formation according to the fixtures. I've generally played 4-4-2 and 3-5-2 this season but sometimes I have opted for 4-5-1 or 5-4-1 when I don't have any promising strikers available.

I'll probably stick with Otamendi and Sterling due to all that cash invested, and my defense can handle Jones on the bench as well.

GW28 is potentially a big opportunity to make up a lot of ground. It's not that hard to prepare for it, just don't make any transfers between now and then that don't in some way make that GW easier.

If you put a full team out in GW28 without taking loads of hits, you will be well ahead of the average. I'm already planning to do 3 x double transfers (GW24, 26, 28).

      1. Rik Waller
        • 6 Years
        6 years, 3 months ago

Yeh I completely agree. I tihnk the best strategy is to always have a transfer banking in every week leading up to GW28, while making a couple of changes involving blank players. Then use a double transfer on the week before to deal with a couple big players

Where would you improve this team? I have 2 FT. 1.7m in the bank. Was thinking Richarlison to Son but he has Southampton at home.

    Courtois, Elliot

    Davies, Otamendia, Ogbonna, Kenny, Gomez

    Sane, Richarlison, Lingard, Salah, Loftus-Cheek

    Kane, Morata, Okazaki

The only people I’d shift would be Okazaki, RLC and Elliot. Maybe just do Elliot to Adrian? Will you never not play Courtois? If he’s permanent, just keep Elliot.

      Murray for Okazaki?

I don’t like Davies, Kenny, Gomez, Richarlison, LoftusCheek, Okazaki or Morata.

      Lots of improvements possible

I’m really not believing that Jesus will be playing in the CL in 3 weeks. If Sanchez arrives, his minutes will be curtailed beyond recognition, too. Or that’s what I reckon.

Even more reason to get him in lol. Sanchez would be devestating at City with the quality that would be around him!

            That's what everyone will think.
But rotation would make that City midfield even more of a hassle than it is already.

One of many options - best thing to do now is keep options open as much as possible until we know blanks/fixtures

Long - term, would you rather have?

    1) Christensen + Jones
    2) Alonso + 4.5 def
