Last Updated 03/1/08

When does the tournament start and end?

The African Cup of Nations will be taking place in Ghana from January 20 to February 10. The tournament dates are split accordingly:

First Round Group Matches – Jan 20-31
Quarter Finals – Feb 3-4
Semi-Finals – Feb 7
Third/Fourth place playoff – Feb 9

What games will my players miss?

The full list of Premiership fixtures likely to be affected is as follows:

Jan 12-13 – Preparation friendly matches
Jan 19-20 – First Round matches
Jan 29-30 – First Round matches
Feb 2-3 – Quarter Final matches and those knocked out in first round but rested.
Feb 9-10 – Semi Finalists rested and those players involved in third/fourth playoff or the final.

Feb 23-24 – All players should return for this round of Premiership games with the option of being rested in the FA Cup week Feb 16-17.

What players are taking part?

The current list of players that *could* take part in the tournament is listed below. Most initial squads have now been confirmed so those without notes indicating that they out of these squads, will be taking part in the tournament.

  • India are ageing, Sri Lanka's Test technique is betrayed by too much one-day stuff, Australia only have one real batsman… »
  • Vorm - Hilario BAE - Richards - Caulker - Enrique - Simpson Silva - Bale - Sess - Valencia - Ferguson RvP - Kun… »
  • i would kill to be able to afford this team mate, assuming that silva at forward is ba. despite senderos. Id give it a 7… »
  • He may be the first to go from the generic 5 mids. »
  • I wouldn't know really, but apparently AVB wasn't happy at all with Luiz against United. »
  • Best player in a 5-2 loss isn't much of an achievement. I'm just going off what I have seen, and what I've seen is he… »
