Captain Sensible – Gameweek 4

Our pre-Gameweek members article, which focuses on the main captaincy contenders arrives once again this afternoon. As always, we take a three-part approach – the first section will be free for all visitors to the site and will analyse the chief protagonists in our Gameweek Captain Poll, though the latter two parts will be members-only, as we delve deeper into the Opta and Rate My Team projections.

The Captain Poll

With a whopping 58% of the vote, Sergio Aguero is the overwhelming favourite to post a big total this Gameweek. Indeed, the Sky Blues’ home tie against Watford could serve as the perfect platform for the former Atletico Madrid marksman to explode into life this term, following his blank against Everton last weekend. Although the Hornets boast back-to-back clean sheets, they face an entirely more threatening proposition in the league’s form side, who rank joint-first for shots on target (24) and second for big chances (seven). The favourable nature of City’s match-up also finds David Silva and Yaya Toure (both 3%) backed as armband differentials.

Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez is second favourite, way back on 5%. Despite failing to score in two of their three matches so far, Arsenal have tallied more attempts (62) and shots inside the box (42) than any side in the league, which suggests the Chilean will be afforded a host of shooting opportunities at St James’ Park.

Chelsea’s Pedro (4%) takes third spot after his eye-catching debut at the Hawthorns racked up a 13-point return, courtesy of a goal, an assist and maximum bonus. A home clash against Crystal Palace – who have notched just two clean sheet in 21 league matches since Alan Pardew was appointed – could well harvest further returns for the defending champions. Eden Hazard owners will be observing Pedro’s performances closely over the coming weeks, given the Spaniard’s potential to serve as a cheaper route into the Blues’ midfield. Hazard and Diego Costa (3% apiece ) will be looking to push on after both recorded their first attacking returns of the season against the Baggies. The Blues placed second for shots inside the box (10) last Gameweek – despite contending with a one-man disadvantage from the 53rd-minute mark – which bodes well for the Eagles’ visit.

Riyad Mahrez has been tipped by just under 4% of the voters. Leicester City’s man of the moment ranks top of the league’s scoring charts, with four goals in three outings already matching his output from last term. The Algerian international will undoubtedly hit a dry patch at some point, yet with Bournemouth – who conceded three goals against West Ham last weekend – next on the Foxes’ agenda, Mahrez’ burgeoning ownership will be quietly confident.

Further down the list, there’s not much to separate Christian Benteke and Callum Wilson (2% apiece) who had contrasting fortunes in the last round of fixtures. The former spurned a gilt-edge chance to open the scoring against Arsenal, while the latter netted with three of his four attempts at goal. Benteke owners, though, will fancy the Belgian’s chances at home to a Hammers defence that’s been breached six times over the past two Gameweeks. Wilson’s growing throng of admirers will hope for more of the same as the Cherries play host to Leicester.

Wayne Rooney (1%) has plummeted down the Captain’s Poll in the wake of three successive blanks. The 10.4-priced frontman is the most transferred-out Fantasy recruit this week, reflecting the waning faith in his capacity to become a prolific scorer once more. Nonetheless, a hat-trick against Club Brugge in midweek could serve as the catalyst to kick-start his campaign, with a trip to Swansea next up for Manchester United.

Stoke duo Xherdan Shaqiri and Mame Biram Diouf also earn 1% of the votes cast ahead of the home derby with West Brom.

    Hey guys
Is it a foolish move to do gomis or diouf to benteke this week for free.
If I did which one for (a) gomis
    (b) diouf

I'd ditch Gomis, of those 2.

Although, I've never been much of a fan and he's done well.

    Play one out of

    A) Payet (liv)
    B) Westwood (SUN)
    C) Shaw (swa)

Have gomis and Gomez in the team. So leaning towards Westwood.

Seeing as none of them will play after a few weeks I'll probably go for someone with no ownership so they don't drop in price one day and screw me over. Turner at 3.9 is worth a shout to save money

Actually higher requires more transfers out to drop, so more resistant. That 's why Hazard despite blanking took 4 weeks to drop.

I’m kind of worried about the City's fullback situation now. Kolarov may get over worked with Clichy out. Same goes for Sagna with Zabaleta out. The lack of cover for now is worrying. Fatigue may set in and Kolarov doesn’t seem like captain stamina.

I'm sure Mangala could play left back if need be. And both Zaba and Sagna have played left back in the past, so when Zaba is back, that could be an option.

With their easy fixtures, and their domination, I wouldn't be worried anyway.

The more I think about it, there isn't even a football team in Bilbao.
LVG adopted Herrera, the 25 year old street urchin, out of the goodness of his heart, and gave him a job at his place of work

I'm really against rotating attacking players so prefer Westwood to a more expensive option.

Have been playing with downgrading Azpi to a Swansea defender but can't put that 1 mil to use..

Would really prefer Hazard to Pedro but can't afford it 🙁

What's this with Wilson being "gifted two goals" as an argument against getting him in? Firstly, his first goal was greatly taken. Secondly, his confidence will still be high. Thirdly, a penalty is not an argument against getting him - it's an argument FOR getting him. Suddenly he has set pieces too.

    Oh, and rising.

His first goal was an absolutely cracking finish.

      Let people not buy.

You have to jump on the bandwagon to see if its a long term one.

If you are in you can't win.

Instead you end up watching Soccer Saturday hoping they will fail and the won't they will keep scoring if you don't have them.

It may very well not work out. But I'm fine with that at this point. I'll give him some time, and if not, get someone else. If he scores against Leicester, he'll probably double or even triple rise over the IB

          Got to buy a ticket.

My biggest regret last year was avoiding obvious picks now I'm not saying Wilson is an obvious pick, but basically players scoring well in general in certain patches I thought I was too smart and they would stop.

Best to just jump on till the well runs dry.

Ayew depay payet Williams, which two to play? Currently on depay and ayew but swans could easily get a cs and payet might get one vs Liverpool. Thanks

Williams doesn't have ay in his name, so he is definitely out.

Besides that stellar argument, not sure. I'd bench Ayew

Ben Davies nailed? Could be a bargain at 4.5. Good player. Weird that Rose can't get in after the complete opposite last year...

Not nailed, and I'm surprised he hasn't already been usurped.

Rose looked to be first choice at the start of the season because Rose played the earlier pre-season game, but his injury gave Davies the chance.

I can't see Davies winning his spot, personally, because I think Rose is the better player, especially in the system they play.

Rose was carrying a little injury apparently. He is 100% fit now. whether that means he starts is another matter but Davies has had mixed performances this season

I don't like rotation in front 8, bound the get things wrong. Would rather downgrade 1 to upgrade your 2 4m defenders(1 of them).

Do I take Toby out and go all out attack in order for Scott Sinclair to come in?

Midweek hat trick and Sunderland at home - it's a bit rogue but I think it might just come off.

I can't see Spurs getting the clean sheet.
