Aguero Replacements

Manchester City’s striker Sergio Aguero is seemingly out for at least four weeks after sustaining a grade 2 hamstring tear in an international fixture against Ecuador.  The earliest we will see him return will likely be Gameweek 13, where City face Liverpool and then Southampton, two potentially tricky encounters.

I have compiled some of the most popular Aguero replacements, as well as some of the less popular, more ‘punty’ options. Due to the use of Members statistics this article is for Members only.

Thanks for submitting. Sorry to non-members, but had to restrict to members due to the high volume of stats used.

I certainly know my Aguero replacement btw - this article confirms I've made the right selection. 🙂

Especially for those of us who only had Aguero as our front line City coverage and have stupidly used our FT elsewhere 😀

I'm gonna wait until after the presser though. The fact Bony isn't playing in internationals has me worried about his fitness/sharpness

I don't see him exploding. Kolarov is out, Clichy a more defensive minded replacement is due? Silva is out as well. It's a big gamble, but you can hope it pays off.

I don't get the Bony being a "straight swap back to Aguero" when he comes back? Surely the fact that Bony won't play when Aguero comes back is a negative? Having Bony would mean you would have to transfer in Aguero whereas with someone else you have the option of waiting/sorting out other issues.

    1. Quinny___

I can see your logic. I would tend to agree with it.

Bony isnt a great pick for me anyway. Isnt match sharp, no silva or yaya. No kompany or kolarov. City are going to struggle. They always do without these players.

    2. Rödallegabomb ᴿᴮ
      • 11 Years

My point was, it is likely that we will end up with 3 City in Agüero's absence. When Aguero returns, this means we need at least 2 transfers to get him in. 1 being the striker we are selling for him, 2 being one of our 3 City. Possibly a 3rd transfer if those don't raise the funds.

Selling Bony kills 2 birds with one stone, you eliminate your 3rd City and open up a striker slot.

I'd imagine we will all get Agüero back in when he if fit sooner rather than later.

      1. Straight Outta Brompton
        • 8 Years
        8 years, 5 months ago

Hmmm are there many 3rd City options? The choices are limited to doubling up on defense or another mid alongside the obvious KDB (anyone here better options than those on the watchlist?). It's not impossible to have 3 City players and not Bony but by no means essential.

I agree we will want Aguero when he's fit but having Bony means you have to transfer him out. If I have 3 playing strikers I could choose any of them to transfer out for Aguero depending on form and fixtures. If I have Bony and Aguero is fit, Bony is out for Aguero no matter what the form is like for my other 2 strikers. It really limits your options.

Yep this site just gets better all the time

Anyway stats or no stats it doesn't take a brain surgeon to work out who the best players are to bring in for Kun
Its obviously out of Pelle, Lukaku and of course Bony who we are told only has 0.6% ownership, which now will be about 30% ownership by the time the next gameweek starts, so won't be a differential now anyway..

Indeed, I only figured this out myself this week. I can happily be more gung ho with stats in future articles without giving away too much to non members.

I think it would be nice for some to have the comments restricted to members, to allow discussion of the stats from the article, although I can see the negatives and it could promote an elitist attitude.

However, I'm still wondering if Pelle worth a -4 hit ? I've already made my transfer for Bellerin and I'm also considering my captaincy between Hazard, Sanchez and eventually - Pelle.

As below, I intended to write about both of them but was already over the 2000 word limit.

I considered submitting it in 2 parts but figured that it was best to keep it to just the one, featuring the most popular and most talked about replacements.

    3. Rödallegabomb ᴿᴮ

      A couple of reasons.

The first being that articles are restricted to 2000 words. I was very close to that threshold with these players so couldn't include anymore, unless I did it in 2 parts.

He hasn't really been mentioned much as a replacement, largely because most already have him.

Furthermore, I have already done a detailed article on him so thought I would be repeating myself.

As I've seen it mentioned a few times and it cropped up in my mind myself, I was wondering if people would find it beneficial if I were to write about some of the replacements which I missed out in this article in a part 2.

Vardy, Martial and some other left wing picks such as Mitrovic haven't featured. Let me know if you would like me to include them in a sequel to this article.

    Note: Not a member.

Well I guess I'm one of the only people here feeling well chuffed now for having never getting Aguero in my squad at all this season. I have also had Vardy since G4 and captained first 2 wks of having him in which scored both and Mahrez blanked both times(before I brought him in myself). Int Break I instead have done Diouf to Ighalo and Yaya to KdB as well as Depay to Mane which makes my current team as follows:

    Cech
    Kolarov Martin Alderweireld
Mane Payet KdB (c) Mahrez Sanchez (vc)
    Vardy Martial
    Panti Fonte Ighalo Clyne

Due to injury concerns elsewhere in MC squad debating on whether or not to switch C + VC
Being hopeful on Kolarov injury as currently 75% chance to play for now + week to recover
Liverpool looked weak overall inc attck recently excluding Sturridge although I guess I am still taking a little risk playing Alderweireld due to manager change to Jurgen.
