The Big Numbers – Gameweek 21

Our usual post-Gameweek members article arrives this evening, as we cast an analytical eye over some of the standout performers over Saturday and Sunday’s ten fixtures.

Spurs’ red-hot frontman chalks up some outrageous statistics on his way to a hat-trick against the Baggies, while Dusan Tadic is more sinner than Saint after spurning chances aplenty. Elsewhere, Robert Snodgrass shows the benefits of a central role under his new manager and we check in on the impressive figures being produced by Arsenal’s overlooked wide man.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Phillips a shout unless he has Rondon. Iwobi not nailed. Phillips > Chadli. Mirallas hot and cold.

Thanks. May keep him then, as a substitute coming in if Giroud is ruled out.

I'll just be mainstreaming and doing Kun --> Zlatan, then, I guess. And maybe Ake --> Baines, too, for minus 4, preserving team value, and boosting my defence.
        Dull, but maybe wise nevertheless?

So are we getting Costa back in at his cut price and sticking the armband on him?

You'd not be able to play them all at the same time.

All teams need a Kante or a Dembele to do the dirty work to free up the attacking players.

Can't just have attackers...not an FPL team 🙂

The last time Manchester City drew a team lower than the Championship in domestic cup competition was Notts County away in the 2011 FA Cup.

So that’s 22 FA Cup draws, 20 League Cup draws, 17 Championship teams, 25 Premier League teams, and six years ago...

          Coleman vs Baines ?

-Coleman goes forward much more from what i saw in the last matches and more of an attacking threat i think

-Baines loves baps and has the penalties also

any thoughts about this ? have there been any discussion about this before ?

I wasn't around earlier when Pink Caddy posted this but just wanted to say this article is brilliant especially the points about colour symmetry and putting players in their real-life position. I would also argue that the comedy is intended 🙂

For any of you seeking enjoyment of the lighter side of FPL, an well designed post on the previous page jogged my memory of Applebonker’s The Art of Team Selection post from Dec 2015. It is a 10 on the unintentional comedy scale.

Personally. I thought it was very good. Well acted and intelligent storyline. It's not like the film, which was mostly a sci-fi action movie.

                Giroud to Lukaku for free??

or stick on Giroud and maybe do surgery next gw with 2FT ands-4 /-8maybe.

                Current team is :

                Heaton (Pick)

                Alonso Brunt Jones Valencia (Amat)

                Sanchez Hazard Alli Philips (Sims)

                Ibra Giroud Carroll

Really want front 3 of Kane Lukaku Ibra going forward I think though...

Southampton have a good run of fixtures, shame their offensive production is non existent. I miss Austin, he didn't f around when it came to cleaning up garbage goals.

Yeah, his injury lead into a horrible cul-de-sac of Ineanacho and Origi. Charlie would have been a fantastic set and forget 3rd foward.

There is a problem with his former agent. Some sources says he owns 22% of his contract and FA allows registartion only if club owns 100% of player's contract. If agent owns it, City have to pay 6m to get rid of that, so it's still going on.

think mark's heaton theory is more than a theory, verging on concrete fact.
the holy trinity for goalkeepers is clean sheet chances, playing for a team who struggle to score and playing behind a defence who 'get rid' rather than pass it out. heaton arguably ticks all 3 of those boxes.
foster i'd hoped would tick all 3 too but not only are west brom not converting clean sheets this season but they've also added some goal threat. middlesbrough are up there but their defenders seem better at picking up pass bps. the pass bps isnt as big a factor as a couple of seasons ago, but take arsenal for example, when cech gets a clean sheet koscielny is so often getting 6 passing bps for 30+ passes at 90+% accuracy. even if cech's saves and catches are covering the koscielny CBIs, tackles and recoveries those extra passing bps do play a part.

the former bonus king for goalkeepers (as mentioned on the scoutcast) was mannone at sunderland, a mantle which pantilimon did pick up somewhat when he took his place. like heaton now it was a good number of saves along with clean sheets in 0-0s and 1-0s. sunderland were struggling for goals and their defence weren't playing passing it out of defence

Imo having two playing keepers is a recipe for despair. The amount of times you'll bench the wrong keeper...

Good luck maximising your bench boost and double gw scores, negotiating blank gws and getting over suspension issues, resting issues or sudden drops due to form swings.

Or easy solution get the cheapest playing gk as your backup gk and leave him on the bench. What difference dies it make to you if he gets a 10pt gw while on your bench?

I think you are misunderstanding my initial comment.
My backup keeper is my playing keepers real life back up. Heaton/Robinson.

There is no dispair when I look at my bench with a 10pt gk thinking gaghh why didn'ti play him this week instead of my poxy 2pt gk this week.

Your backup is not a playing gk though? Why not get the cheapest playing gk and never pay him? He is there with the chance of being involved in a dbl gw and for a bench boost as well as a fall back if your main teams gk

Bench boost is a different matter. For me that would be played in a double gameweek. Unless you are incredibly lucky you'll be changing you gks to accomodate that whatever way you play the game

If your main gks team loses defensive form or lose all their defenders to injury.

I just don't understand deliberately going for a non playing gk unless their are no playing options at the same or similar price.

I dont like seeing points sitting on the bench that are more than the player you started with that week. (Sometimes significantly more) Surely that must smart for one. And I'll wager it happens more than a third of the time.

I've had the Heaton/Robbo combo since my gw3 wildcard. Was a great move. Set and forget GKs.

Worrying about your GKs for the DGWs and bench boost chip is too far ahead IMO. Most people will WC again before those anyway, so that issue is a non-starter.

I just don't get that logic. Why is it better to see zero points on your bench than 10? If you never intended on playing the gk then I don't see why it should cause any angst that you don't get his points. I'd prefer to have 50 points on my bench every gw than zero as it gives both options going forward and shows a squad in good form.

What you are doing makes no sense at all

Your point isn't really valid to unsure . Why would he want a playing gk on his bench when heaton will never be dropped if heaton gets dropped his bench player is a playing goalkeeper his logic is right

Fabianski has been the pick in the last couple of seasons for the above reasons.

But now they've sold Williams, the Swansea defence has evaporated in front of him...there's zero clean sheet potential and near guarantee of shipping 2 or more no matter how many saves he makes 🙂

How could any self respecting Blackburn fan pick him...pffft...

And aye..."get rid"..."boot it out"....is just about right for that not club.

Would you get Heaton for a hit, A.B.?

Yea indeed, never owned him though, went with Valdes 2 weeks ago, think he might level Heaton from now on, more cs, less saves

                    Excellent post ab.

For me I think Heaton is fpl gold due to Burnley home cs but they don't have many nice fixtures at home left this season. I wouldn't like to be banking on his lucky cs's v the likes of Liverpool and utd but I'm sure he'll pick up one or two of those between now and the end of the season.

Foster had been a huge disappointment for me but when you see their run of upcoming home games you can maybe see why wba have not kept as many cs as we would expect.

Hull could be the dark horse to do a Sunderland gk on it if the new guy can get them playing more defensively as they have some real nice home games between now and the end of the season.

Heaton clean sheets & maximum bonus already achieved both away to Man U & Home to Liverpool this season

Yes that's why I mentioned them. They were extremely fortunate and you wouldn't want to be banking on them. He might get one or two more lucky cs's like that before the end of the season but he could just as easily and probably more likely not get any more like that.

I don't know what to do with my strikers. Aguero is useless, Benteke is useless again and Lukaku is somewhat surprisingly, the new prince of fantasy land.
