The ScoutCast – Episode 214 – Smugface

Four middle-aged Fantasy Football managers (just go with it, Andy) and four Romelu Lukaku owners. Four very smug faces.

We try to hide it, we really do, but Romelu’s haul was so sweet, one or two gloating moments may have sneaked into this latest 120-minute episode.

You have been warned.

Our Gameweek’s were even good enough to nudge Granville into making a welcome return, although he was sure to stress that his 81 points had very little to do with the re-appearance.

He joined Jonty, a youthful Andy and myself for the usual grappling session with your community questions.

We contemplate the big hitters to sell and the cheap options to buy, while lamenting Sergio Aguero’s demise and giving Claudio Ranieri our own vote of shaky confidence.

Hi guys, gone from saving to now looking at taking a hit this week. Got a few doubts, bellerin, Evans, lovren, Carroll and don't want to rely to capoue. Any thoughts on best move, 1m in the bank and 1ft

    Valdes
    Bellerin Coleman brunt
    Sanchez Ali eriksen Phillips
    Ibra lukaku Carroll

    Jaku capoue lovren Evans

    A save
    B bellerin to alonso
    C Ali/eriksen to siggy
D do C and lovren to alonso for -4

You should do B or C anyway.

B because both Erik and Ali will play for sure.

Cheers, getting bellerin over alonso 2 months ago is one of my worst ever transfers! Taking him out ahead of hull at home tho but the injury doubt is final straw

You've got a point. Hull already kept clean sheets against Pool and United which is amazing. Maybe I'm leaning towards Sanchez because I want us to bounce back after two defeats and he's simply the best player in the team. And extra points for goal(s) and cs are always on my mind.

If Arsenal is leading by 2-0, Wenger might rest Sanchez for Munich next week. Probably no chance to get a big haul. Jesus most likely to play but shifted out to the wing to accomodate Kun. Will plump for Jesus.

There's no accommodating Kun anymore. Jesus playing 3 x 90 mins in a week which suggest he is now firmly his no 1 stirker. Believe me I know, captained Kun last week because of the same reasoning as you have here but came back to bite me in the bum

Somewhat long post, but bear with me, please?

Without hits I can manage this full team for GW28, in the event of only 3 matches. What do you think of it?

        Jakupovic (de Gea)

        Baines - Coleman - Brunt - McAuley - Smith

Sigurdsson - Phillips - Antonio - Snodgrass (de Roon)

        Lukaku

With Ibra and Defoe on the bench + 1 FT, I will have a good team for GW 29 too, wildcarding after GW 30.

        Sound?

Will be a lot more than most will have out in gw28. only thing is how many transfers will you need to get big hitters back? Is it worth keeping hold of one or two more, esp with de roon on the bench

True. But there's time to modify. There are alternatives for the defenders, and even Lanzini or Stanislas could prove mid alternatives

With 11 players in GW28 I can still field this team GW 29 without hits. Looks decent, doesn't it? Or am I wrong?

                De Gea (mid)

Baines (HUL) - Coleman (HUL) - Smith (SWA)

Sigurdsson (bou) - Antonio (LEI) - Snodgrass (LEI) - Sanchez (wba)

Ibra (mid) - Lukaku (HUL) - Defoe (BUR)

Few will have 11 for gw28 so that's a good start. 2 whu mids could be an issue, but fixtures ok.

Question for Ozil and any Arsenal fans.

Big, big game for Arsenal on Wednesday away to Bayern.

They play a promoted championship team at home on Saturday.

Is there any chance Wenger rests his big hitters for Hull? Will there be some early substitutions?

Does Wenger have form for this type of thing during the champions league knockout stages?

No chance. Arsenal can't afford to drop out of top 4. Doesn't have much back up, so expect them all to play.

they really need a response now and to win this game. Couple with the fact that there are quite a few days in between, I can't see it. They can rest players in the FA cup

                      http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/20170209/we-absolutely-have-to-be-united-now-

"We have a big fight in the Premier League, a big fight in the Champions League, with a big game coming up, and we still have the FA Cup as well. We want to do well in all three competitions and that’s as well why it’s important that we focus, respond and get our fans behind the team, because this is an important and very sensitive part of the season - and we have to respond to disappointment together."

                      http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/20170209/-it-s-not-over...-we-can-t-think-that-

"Every game is difficult, especially at the Emirates. We have to prepare well to face a Hull team with more confidence than when we played them, so we have to prepare well."

I think that Wenger will start the strongest line-up against Hull and MAYBE give a rest to some players after 70 minutes IF we are winning comfortably. But you saw how Alexis reacts when he needs to leave the pitch. He always wants to show and give more. If we lose against them the confidence will be even lower before facing Bayern and obviously no one wants that. Wenger is focused on Hull and simply can't afford to lose 3 in 3.

The Sigurdsson hysteria this week is a typical FFS hot air balloon. 3 articles I've seen so far with a big picture of him at the top.

He's a good midfielder playing for as poor team who have Chelsea(a) next week. He is never captain potential in any week, not ever. And bringing him in is never anywhere near essential. He can be a good, value player to have if you time it right and that's about the extent of it. 😕

I wouldn't peg him as a consistent captain candidate, but to say he's not captaincy material against a Leicester side that have not won away all season is frankly ridiculous

Current form? What does that mean? You mean he has scored 3 weeks in a row? That's not form, that's happenstance.

And no, he's not worth considering. Not when Sanchez has Hull(h) and Zlatan has Watford(h).

Form is how well a player is doing on the pitch. Not how many FPL points he scored recently. They may be related or they may not be but they are not the same.

true. But you could also say that 'FPL form' is also a thing. Tbh he has been in good general form anyway.

"FPL form" is not a thing. It's a completely artificial construct that used to be called 'chasing last week's points'.

i think it's a matter of opinion and about how you define the term 'form'

No, opinion has nothing to do with it. He is in the same form as when he had 6 successive goalless games before the 3 successive goals.

The fact that his goals came 3 in succession rather than spread out over 9 games is of no account whatsoever and doesn't indicate form. It indicates happenstance.

It is actually literally the opposite.
3 goals over 9 weeks would be happenstance. 3 in successive weeks shows form.

Interesting argument. If scoring in the last 3 weeks isn't 'form', then please tell me what is?
As I said, not saying he's the best pick, and I will be going with one of the two players you've mentioned, but to not even consider him is a bit daft.
                                      Each to their own, mind.

I think you being slightly contrary here.

How do you define a player in form? I'm not basing my assessment purely on recent statistics but, having watched him over recent matches, to me, he appears to be playing with great confidence. As are Swansea. We all have our definitions and judgement of player form and, for me, I'm struggling to not put Sigurdsson in that bracket currently.

To write off his chances of getting points is effectively to write off Swansea's chances of scoring vs Leicester. Do you really feel that Swansea won't score against that defence?

Because if they do, statistically, Sigurdsson is very likely to be involved, as likely as Sanchez for Arsenal and Ibrahimovic for United. You can choose to dismiss those statistics but then they can be equally crucial to building any case for Sanchez and Ibrahimovic.

For me, it comes down to who can get a 2-3 goal result - Arsenal, United or Swansea - it's a close call between the three candidates. Arsenal have Munich and are facing a Hull side that I just don't think will capitulate. They may not even concede on current "form" - if I'm permitted to say back to back clean sheets is "form".

Also not sure on this reference to "FFS hysteria" like bad judgements are branded and exclusive to this community, or someway shaped by it.

That comes across like you consider this a fledgling community made up of very little knowledge or expertise. I really don't think that's the case. There's some very strong FPL managers about and I'm sure some of those are backing Sigurdsson or at least seriously considering him.

Nobody can be spot on 100% of the time but dismissing Sigurdsson so strongly seems very harsh.

Look at my OP. It describes Sigurdsson fairly I think. "A good, value player to have". There's no harsh dismissal there.

"The Sigurdsson hysteria" refers to people transferring the likes of Alli and Sanchez out for Sigurdsson. If you haven't seen the way Siggy is being referred to as almost a 'must have' by many posters this week then maybe we have been here at different times.

As for the 'strong FPL managers' you refer to, less and less of them post here any more, Mark. They use the members area and hold their peace. You didn't notice?

We'll in my opinion, you're playing him down somewhat. If we're looking to acquire assured assets for to navigate the missing fixtures, he's in the Lukaku bracket for me. In the teams that give us GW28, he's a top bracket asset.

I've done Alli to Sigurdsson. I think, like me, a lot of folk transferring out Alli also have an additional Spurs player and have perhaps assessed they are not quite the same side without Rose and a three-man defence, with Alli possibly sharing more of the responsibility to support Kane with Son at this time.

As for the change in the community - posters come and go - I'm aware of that, however, I've not surveyed the current community's ability to make judgement calls against posters of the past. Some great FPL managers and voices are not posting any longer but we've still got plenty of knowledge and sound minds and advice about the place.

Agreed. Siggy is in form end of and a great asset. Ruth's argument I think is for argument sake.

I sold Siggy and Kane for Stanislas and Aguero ahead of the Burnley home match at the Emtyhad and have regretted ever since 🙁

"Assured assets to navigate the missing fixtures".

Well, Sigurdsson has Chelsea(a) in GW26 so he doesn't tick that box.

GW28 is 4 weeks away and we don't know the fixtures yet. So there's no need to get Sigurdsson now for that either. Saving a FT this week and awaiting the FAC5 results would allow a manager to make a much better informed decision.

If I am "playing him down somewhat" then I'd have thought that was a useful counterweight to others who are "playing him up ridiculously". 😕

Sigurdsson is a player I like, he has been in my team in the past and will doubtless be again. I just don't agree with the semi-essential status he has recently been awarded by many posters and thought I'd say so. Although perhaps I should know better, questioning the consensus view is generally a recipe for castigation and/or derision on FFS nowadays.

I totally agree 100% with this post, though the last sentence is probably unnecessary. People are always going to have different opinions and as long as they are made constructively and don't turn personal/nasty (which sometimes it does unfortunately), I think disagreement is healthy 🙂

Yes, but you're not an "expert" on DGW strategy (despite having produced excellent research on it and posted it voluntarily on FFS for a long time).

To be an "expert" you have to produce a pretty spreadsheet. Never mind if it's misleading. Just as long as it looks good. 🙁

It's not questioning the consensus view that raised my heckles. I don't agree on Sigurdsson but I welcome that discussion - it's healthy and there's great stuff among the comments on this as a result.

However, I just didn't like the reference to "FFS hysteria" like there's this ill-informed mass of folk believing that Sigurdsson is a great asset to own when that isn't the case. I'm sure there's wise old heads who no longer post on this site who are considering Sigurdsson for the same reasons as myself, and yet it seems there's this idea of labelling Sigurdsson as an FFS Player, sponsored by some naive FFS opinion.

Just smacks of trying to set up a scenario where the community and the site are being judged on the performance of one player.

There's no agenda on FFS for Sigurdsson or any other player - we're here to help identify those players who we feel will fare well in the short and mid-term.

I personally think Sigurdsson fits that bill. You and others don't agree. That's fine.

But I don't like the idea of quantifying the value or knowledge of the site it's community on the recommendation of one player. Just seems unnecessary.

I am not and I was not. I think you are reacting to something I am not saying.

"FFS hysteria" refers to the situation when a player begins to be referred to as a must-have on the forums. I had seen that quite a few times over the last days. I didn't think it was true so I made my comment. No more or less than that.

I never said (and didn't imply) that Sigurdsson is a bad option for FPL. I don't think he is. But neither do I think he's as essential as some are making out, especially not this week.

What transfers a manager makes can only be assessed in relation to their squad as it stands. Could taking Sigurdsson make sense this week? Sure. For example if someone had Lallana and Lovren and were using 2 FTs to get Sigurdsson and Baines/Coleman instead. That would make a lot of sense.

It's easy to try to paint my OP in black and white terms - he's a good choice or he's a bad choice. But I was saying neither. Just that he's not a must-have and has been somewhat over-hyped.

In defense of Ruth and the "form" vs. "happenstance" debate, if you run a Comparison Tool on Siggy in GW19-21 (in which he didn't bag a goal or assist) vs. Siggy in GW22-24 (in which he bagged three goals and an assist), it makes for some interesting reading 🙂

I don't want to share members stats, but there is only one stat - admittedly an important one - on which he fares notably better in the latter GW window.

Now, a player's confidence can matter, but based purely on involvement and statistics, it seems Siggy was either somewhat lucky recently, somewhat unlucky before that, or the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

I admit that I'm in the camp of not seeing Alli to Siggy as a smart move. Spurs are far more explosive than Swansea, and Swansea still create fewer chances than any other side (hardly something I want to hitch my captaincy wagon to), but the great thing is that time will tell.

Siggy ticks all the boxes for this particular stretch of fixtures for me in terms of player form/team improved form/fixtures/blanks etc. That is why people want him - it's current circumstance not a year round love-in. I admit I can lose Lallana for him instead of Erik and Dele which seems straightforward at the moment - but I have no problem with people bringing him in for any other midfielder.

You consistently write off people on here in favour of the members area - if that's the case i suggest you keep your posts confined to it to avoid disappointment.

However you define "form" the more interesting question is: What is the best predictor of gameweek FPL success?

I agree with Ruth´s point here that "FPL form" is a rather poor predictor compared to statistical measures like SoT, Goal Attempts, or more complex ones like xG.

Explaining recent hauls in the terms of "playing with great confidence", "he is in the zone" and the like is more often post-hoc rationalisation than not. Sometimes the ball goes outside the post, sometimes inside. What matters much more (and can be measured) is the amount of chances the team creates for that specific player.

This community would be better off the more we can resist scoreline journalism and stick to the facts.

(Having said that, Siggy does in fact have good stats, so no reason not to go for him.)

A mixture of Ruth's definition of form (which I agree with) and the stats to back that up is optimal 🙂

How can you possibly think that 35 points in the last 5 games is not good form?
And how can you think that such form against an awful Leicester team shouldn't at least be considered as a captain?

Capoue scored 44 points in 5 games at the start of the season. I expect you thought that was "good form" as well. I didn't, I thought it was happenstance and would never sustain. And it didn't.

I would never have considered Capoue as a potential captain either (although some did). In fact, compared to him, Sigurdsson is a premium asset. 🙂

Bit of a difference between a CDM who had never shown a knack for scoring goals but had suddenly scored a few...
...and a proven CAM for an improving side who plays a part in 66% of his team's goals. Against one of the worst form defenses in the league.

                                            Capoue is not a CDM.

Sigurdsson is currently not a CAM either. I the last 3 games he has been playing on the left and in 2 of those 3 games his average position has been very deep as well.

He's very reliant on set pieces. On the plus side, he's very good at them.

Well, it's a punt. He's clearly capable of a double digit score, as demonstrated a few times this season. But if you expect a nailed on haul then you're going to be disappointed more than not. But that doesn't mean it isn't one of those weeks this gameweek.

agree that he's not essential, but I'd argue that he is a captaincy candidate sometimes due to him having all the set pieces and a marked recent improvement in the team.

He's a good player and well worth having in our squads at the price. I personally wouldn't captain him over Sanchez but I can see why some would.

But it's not as simple as a 1v1 comparison in the curent situation. For me, it's Alli to Sigurdsson plus 1.3m. That gives me funds to go Amat to Baines for GW26.

Those funds, when we're facing a blank in GW26, can be key to strengthen the bench and therefore it puts a very different light on the Alli to Sigurdsson move.

Whilst I definitely agree that often there is a player (or more than 1) being touted as the next big thing round these parts. It often appears like a positive feedback mechanism with the readers feeding off the site and vice versa.

I disagree with stating he's not captain potential at all though, particularly this week. Leicester have looked very poor indeed recently (perhaps they can stem the flow this week? who knows). Sanchez is the obvious pick this weekend for sure, and is most likely where my armband will end up.

For what little it may or may not be worth, Siggy has the second most shots on target so far, just behind Ibra. Sure many are not in the box (not a great measure as just inside the box is not much different from just outside), but he's Swansea's main man (such as that is) and up next against a team who are definitely struggling lately. And that makes him a candidate at least. Do i know how he will do? No, and neither does anyone else.

It's not necessarily a move I would do normally but Sanchez will go to Siggy after deadline tomorrow.
                                It's Siggy's 3 games against Sanchez's 1 game away at Liverpool.
The other factor is that there is a possibility of a bit of carnage with Sanchez's price over the next 3 GWs. If I'm selling at 11.6m I think I can get him back for 11.1-11.2 for GW29.
As for captaincy it wouldn't be Siggy for any of these fixtures GW26-28. Probably Lukaku-Ibra-Lukaku.

I agree that chelsea next week is off putting, but disagree that he is not captaincy material. He is a good player, playing with confidence, on set pieces, at home, against a weak Leicester defense. He may not turn out to be the best captain, but he does have a lot going for him. What will put most off is the crazy idea that price has something to do with points return.

When 3-5-2 was all the rage, when LIV were doing well, it would have been easy to slot Siggy in for most people. Now that a 4 man midfield is back in vogue, Siggy's resurgence has stumped many.
Those of us still clinging to 3-5-2 have been fortunate maybe (LIV>Siggy), others have faced a testing decision.

True, and the other side of it is that if you cannot time it right then he's a horrendous pick, as has been for many (myself included) before these recent hauls...

There is no proof. Because it isn't true. FPL Terms and Conditions:

                                      5. While there is no limit on the number of entries per household or organisation only one entry in respect of the Game per unique registered user of the Site is permitted (concerning which the decision of the Premier League shall be final).

I have never once broken that rule. I have one team, the one that is linked to my profile. If I have made any mistake it is to admit that I help other family members with their teams on occasion. In any other case that would pass without notice. But because there are people that resent my posts on FFS (or some of them) then that has been turned into a slur that gets repeated whenever someone wants to grind an axe.

I think there is a good chance the Leicester players will turn up for Ranieri this week now he is under real pressure for the first time, and they will see a fixture against Swansea on TV as the ideal time to do it. I certainly don't see them rolling over.

Siggy certainly a great value option, and an obvious choice to come in GW27, but to come in this week as captain? Not for me. I also don't like the Spurs midfielder out for him, as Spurs may very well still play GW28, in which case you will want your Alli/Eriksen back.

I think the Scouts can be a bit selective but I like that. They should have their opinion and be open with it. I'm not going into detail but they do promote certain players and not others but again i'm fine with that. It's their opinion.

I'm seriously considering him (other option is Sánchez). Similar stats and fpl points over the last 4 weeks.
Considering last 4 fixtures for Siggy (ARS, liv, SOT, mci) vs Sanch (swa, BUR, WAT, che) it's quite impressive no?

Sanchez plays for a better team though and has better 'in the box'-stats but Hull have significantly improved since Marco Silva arrived. I wouldn't get Sig in for other big midfielders but he's currently the best in his price bracket.

I'll probably flip a coin and go for Ibra (c) ...

Completely agree, well spotted Ruth, it's a bandwagon they are clearly trying to drive, alternatively, they are trying to cool the Jesus wagon until they are ready for you all to jump on board.

To include City in the weak frisking the fixtures article when they have Bournemouth, Sunderland and Stoke was beyond blatant, yes, they have a blank you say, so do United and Arsenal with perhaps worse fixtures, no sign of them in the article.

The Puppetmasters do not like bandwagons happening until they tell you it's time, naughty people.

Siggy is a good pick, not sure he's essential with Chelsea away, after that then you can see the logic in it but it's so over th top with their subconscious brain washing.

No agenda this end. Is there an agenda to set up scenarios whereby the FFS community can be criticised solely on the performance of one player?

As for City - check the season ticker for the next eight Gameweeks and sort by difficulty. So blanks short-term, tough fixtures to follow. Add Champions League in the mix for good measure. Frisking is an early warning article for this very reason.

The frisking the fixture article (published yesterday) was to include the next 5 fixtures (let's not start stretching it to 8 with possible blanks to make the point look stronger) of which there is no blank in 28 yet, so you're publishing an article based on what we have in front of us calling Bournemouth, Sunderland and Stoke difficult fixtures, that's 3 out of the 5 fixtures for which the article is published about, come on Mark, can you not see how this looks odd?

How can we go from (in the space of 7 days) talking up Sterling and his consistency/potential over the coming period to doing a U turn and saying 'beware City'? It's just a bit mixed in its message.

Can't really add anything more to Siggy, he is a good pick, everyone knows that but Ruth is right in that you've gone OTT with it when you consider he's at Chelsea next week, far from essential right now, after Chelsea I'm sure he's going to be.

I commission the Frisking article, supplying the teams to the writer and I always look beyond five Gameweeks and that's why City are in there. Missing short-term fixtures and poor long term fixtures. If GW28 drops out, they have one home match in seven Gameweeks and that's against Liverpool. In my opinion, that's a weak schedule. Fair enough if you disagree but that's my argument.

We talk up Sterling purely in the short-term - he's in the Picks this week along with Jesus. The Picks and Differentials are one week only articles as a rule, although in the latter we do discuss the next 2-3. Obviously with both, we can't limit ourselves to players with assured fixtures in GW26 and 28 so it's tricky but we've been mindful of that.

So Sigurdsson is a good pick. Fine - that's as far as we need to go because if he blanks, he will still have been a "good pick". I just want to avoid the scenario where, if he blanks, he's suddenly seen as a ridiculous GW25 pick because I just can't see that.

I stand by the fact that, based on what is available in terms of potential points over the next 5-6, he is a very strong selection and probably as close to "essential" as it gets if you're planning ahead. I didn't back him at Liverpool or at City and paid the price, so I'm not writing him off vs Chelsea either.

Of course we can wait till after Chelsea, we'd just have to pay 0.3+ more for him. In my view, that's a factor and on the basis that he's already scored at Liverpool and City and on all set-pieces and pens, the Chelsea fixture doesn't sway me.

Again, fair enough if folk disagree - it's lead to a great HT.

OK cool, so basically, even though the frisking article is for the next 5 fixtures (of which 3 are not difficult) on this special occasion we should look beyond that and take into consideration 3 fixtures beyond that?

                                        Gotcha.

"That would leave Pep Guardiola’s side with just one home match in seven Gameweeks, and that is against Liverpool."

I don't see the issue here. The statement was in the article and is fact.

On the basis of the likelihood of one home match in the next seven Gameweeks, we see that as a weak schedule.

Why do you feel we're cheating folk, here?

We often restrict our view to 4-6 Gameweeks but, when sides have blanks, we certainly like to look beyond that so we're considering the next 4-6 opponents for all teams.

I don't think you're trying to cheat people but I do think you're trying (and failing) to throw cold water of the Jesus bandwagon, a few posts above you mentioned about not wanting to buy Siggy after Chelsea for .3 more, I'm guessing you'll want Jesus down the road and are using the reach of the site to try and reign it in, there's no other reason why City needed to be in the frisking article over Arsenal or United IMO other than trying to discourage your followers from jumping on what looks like a major bandwagon.

Whilst Chelsea fixture looks poor on paper, it shouldn't put people off getting Siggy in for Sanchez after this GW. He has already got returns this season V Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester Utd and Manchester City (twice) so hardly a flat track bully!

Arsenal, Liverpool and City are hardly as solid defensively as Chelsea, all 3 have leaked goals all season.

OK. He scored 8pts V Chelsea and 5 V Man Utd and they have been defensively solid in general. I agree Chelsea away is tough but he has proved himself against tough opposition before so shouldn't be dismissed due to 1 poor fixture when others are facing 2 blanks in 3 weeks. The fact that he is on all set pieces gives him a reasonable chance of returns against any team.

Maybe so BUT the essential tag is so OTT, Ross Barkley has Sunderland the same week as Siggy is at Chelsea with Boro this week, you could argue that he's a superior pick for these two weeks given his and Everton's for but not a peep about him.

Ruth nailed it with the opening post, +1 for the observant people in the house!

Depends how you're set up I guess, I'll be swapping KDB to Hazard/Barkley next week and bringing in Siggy the week after.

Not sure Siggy at Chelsea is better than Hazard V Swansea or Barkley V Sunderland regardless of what bandwagon is being forced.

He's definitely being overhyped and to be considered as a captain over Sanchez and Ibra (and Jesus) who all have easier fixtures and play for better teams, doesn't seem a sensible decision. However, there have been a few have been a few of these mis-informed band-wagons this season, dropping Sanchez for Hazard, the Aguero essential status and get Kane at all costs (delivering blanks against Hull and Burnley). It's pretty much par for the course on here so not too surprised, best thing to do is don't get drawn in and make you're own decisions

"playing for a poor team" - Swansea are no longer a poor team. They're a good team.

Regardless of the result versus Leicester, at this point in time he is an outstanding candidate going into this gameweek, based on form, fixture and his team's dependence on him.

Siggy defo a good option but I'm leaning towards jumping on him after Chelsea away once the blanks are confirmed and the the GW26 fixture is out the way. Really depends who you're selling for him though. Alli or Sanchez out could very easily backfire - especially a Spurs mid, over the next two games. Good option but over-hyped for sure.

I disagree as i do think the hype is worth it!
Yes he's likely to blank versus chelsea but there are good fixtures for swansea after GW26. Swansea are playing well & when they play well siggy does well.

I dont have siggy but whenever swansea score a goal i fear its either siggy who scored/assisted & it often it is.
I personaly wouldn't sell alli or sanchez for siggy as it doesnt makes sense for my team, but i understand why people are doing it.

For people with double spurs mid like mark, doing one >siggy then ibra >kane makes that decision easier as they dont want triple spurs attack.

Maybe downgrading lets someone upgrade a defender to coleman/baines.
You can't judge 1 transfer without knowning what someone elses team looks like.

A lot of people bought sanchez at 11.8/11.9 so maybe for them it makes sense to sell sanchez to siggy & upgrade a 3rd striker to lukaku & switch to 3-4-3 going forward.

No player is essential but cheap players in FPL who are involved in 50% of their teams goals are 'fpl gold'.

Nor do i think jesus is being downplayed by the moderators to keep him under the radar.
                                That accusation is uncalled for.

Everyone admits he's a good player, but as so many people own both ibra & sanchez its not good advice to recommend getting jesus & adding another 26 & possibly 28 blanker in your team. Plus pep is so unpredictable with his benching & the CL starts next week so why recommend someone if in feb/march they have possible 2 blanks & a team in CL.

Siggy should always be considered IMO, but rarely is. For once he isn't being overlooked and I'm glad about that.

I would've thought Carroll and Crouch would be getting huge hype as well. Hammers on form now, Carroll's confidence is sky high pulling off an overhead kick like that.

I've read the thread with interest and smiled to myself throughout. What this site brings us is a broad spread of opinion and different perspective. What you take from it is up to you. There are those who prefer to become members and use more of the statistics from which to base their approach, others who like the discussion articles and threads to base their selections. Neither is right neither is wrong. I don't even have a problem with those who like to be flamitory and controversial as it always sparks debate. However, what I do have a problem with is when wild accusations are made without substance. To suggest that the likes of Mark, Jonty and the Scouts use this site to manipulate prices to their own benefit is somewhat ridiculous. The Scoutcast is one of the highlights of the week for me, not because I use it as a gospel for my own decision making (because if I did I wouldn't be sitting here regretting not having Lukaku last week) but because it's healthy and amusing debate. The same that goes on with my own mates in our league. Their opinion is never wrong, but simply because it is their opinion. The may be proved wrong after the event because hindsight is a wonderful thing. That is what makes this game so good. Debate and FFS giving us a wide spread of information, rumour and statistics and without the dedication of the Scouts we would all be in a far worse place. It is difficult to take personal criticism well at the best of times, but when it is unfounded it must make the Scouts wonder if it is all worth it on occasion. My message to them would be..... The vast majority of people who use this site value your contributions and love the Community that we are part of. Remember that we are grateful for all that you provide and in 99.9% of the time debate is healthy!

Hi Ruth, Re: Sigurdsson - what's a good time exactly - you mean GW 28?

He is a good midfielder playing for a poor team, but you have the likes of Hazard who's a great MF playing for a great side, but delivering points way below his potential. What's your take on this - patience only pays off on a long term basis?

Not looking for magic mate - just your opinion.

Yeah I captained him too, such a killer.. is he worth -4 for Lukaku this eeek tho? Hard to see with Lukaku at mid away?

I did a -4 already Aguero & Stanislas -->> Lukaku & Siggy. Stan's uncertainty of starts and price changes forced my hand

Smug on gentlemen, you got to be happy with that Lukaku haul.

I'm still sick i didn't pull the trigger on Aguero & Diomande to Lukaku & Jesus. I had the exact money at the time but the thought of Aguero home to Swansea (and Lukaku burning my Triple Capt last season) put me off so sorted my defence instead.

Put the armband on Aguero for good measure....needless to say i'm still licking my wounds 🙁

Literally the very same here with the captain.. are you holding or selling? I've brought in Siggy, is kun -4 worth it?

Lawro talking sense as usual. All the casuals who jumped on the bandwagon are going to be disappointed. Especially when they get round to looking at the fixtures.

"Gabriel Jesus rescued Manchester City with the injury-time winner against Swansea last week but I can't help but think he should have scored their decisive goal with his initial effort at goal, rather than relying on Lukasz Fabianski dropping the ball after stopping his header.

Football can be funny like that sometimes - imagine if he did not get a second chance, and City did not win the game. Instead of being the hero, people would have been asking how on earth he missed."
