Selection

Spot the Differential – Gameweek 25

After two of last week’s selections, Everton’s Ross Barkley and Watford’s Troy Deeney, provided instant returns in Gameweek 24, we’re hoping our latest picks can follow suit.

This time around, we’ve plumped for a trio of budget midfielders, with two also benefitting from the fact their teams are guaranteed to play in Gameweek 28.

Josh King

Although the main headline-maker from that thrilling nine-goal contest at Goodison Park last weekend was Lukaku, the part played by Bournemouth’s Josh King shouldn’t be forgotten.

The Norwegian international, who played as the lone striker for Eddie Howe’s side, scored twice for the visitors, and collected 13 FPL points.

When looking at King’s underlying statistics, he’s impressively ranked joint-fourth among midfielders for shots inside the box over the last four Gameweeks with eight, while he’s also created three chances over the same period.

So while it was Junior Stanislas who attracted plenty of investment following his form over the festive period, it could now be King who represents the strongest attacking option for Bournemouth.

Available at just 5.3 in FPL, King will on Monday night face a Manchester City side who’ve shipped seven goals in their last four matches, while the Cherries also have a guaranteed fixture in Gameweek 28 – at home to West Ham United, and also host Swansea City a week later.

While he may at times be used in the attacking midfield positions if Howe decides to hand a recall to Benik Afobe as the lone striker, King, who now has six goals to his name this season, looks an intriguing option based on recent form and that Gameweek 28 fixture.

For those needing to free up some cash in midfield, then, King could present a handy solution, and with an ownership of only 1.2% in FPL, he also provides plenty of upside as a differential if he can build on that brace against Everton.

Ademola Lookman

While he was unable to produce any attacking returns in Everton’s 6-3 victory over Bournemouth last weekend, Ademola Lookman did play his part in an dazzling offensive display from the Toffees on his first Premier League start.

Lookman registered two shots from inside the box, and while some of his more illustrious team-mates such as Romelu Lukaku, Ross Barkley and Seamus Coleman are stealing the limelight at the moment, the 5.4-priced midfielder perhaps shouldn’t be slept on.

Bought from League One side Charlton Athletic last month for a fee of around £11 million, the 19-year-old attacker made an immediate impact, scoring on his debut as a late substitute in the 4-0 win over Manchester City.

This afternoon he’ll come up against a Middlesbrough side that rank joint-first for big chances conceded over the last four Gameweeks with 10, while they’re also joint-fourth for shots conceded from inside the box over the same period with 40.

That looks a favourable match-up for the red-hot Everton attack, then, and with their upcoming schedule (SUN, tot, WBA, HUL) remaining very kind over the coming weeks, including a guaranteed fixture in Gameweek 28, Lookman could be a viable budget option.

The youngster could still be a slight rotation risk, given he only started for the first time last week, but should the Toffees produce another emphatic win at the Riverside Stadium, he could be able to keep his place in the side over the longer term.

With an ownership of just 0.1% in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Lookman is the ultimate differential then, although one probably only likely to be gambled on by truly maverick Fantasy managers.

Adnan Januzaj

With Sunderland manager David Moyes revealing Adnan Januzaj should be available for this afternoon’s home clash against Southampton, we’re happy to back the young Belgian as our final choice.

Restored to the starting XI against Crystal Palace, playing in a central attacking midfield role behind lone striker Jermain Defoe in a 3-5-1-1 formation, Januzaj was at the heart of all the Black Cats’ attacking play, and finished up with two assists in the comprehensive 4-0 win.

Confidence should be high for Sunderland heading into today’s match, while the opposite can be said for Southampton, who have conceded five goals in two matches in the absence of the injured Virgil van Dijk.

So Januzaj, who’s now available at just 5.3 in FPL, may be able to build on an encouraging outing at Selhurst Park, with his relationship with striker Jermain Defoe flourishing further.

The 22-year-old is only owned by 0.5% of FPL bosses, so while investment would present something of a gamble, the success of players such as Peter Crouch and James Morrison over recent weeks indicates that the budget bracket should not be ignored.

      Ibra

Don't trust Arsenal / Sanchez in an early kick off. Spurs have a tough game against Liverpool. Middlesbrough very defensive at home. Think Leicester may show more fight this week if Ranieri does not bottle team selection. Don't have a City player.

Siggy, I think. It's a very tough choice this week between him Sanchez and Zlatan. Leicester need to react now, and I think they will. Ian Wright revealing Wenger says he is leaving Arsenal soon worries me, if the players know he is going their performances will dip.

Ibra this week v one of the worst teams in the league
Arsenal on a poor run v a resurgent Hull so no to Sanchez
Spurs tough away game v Liverpool (although they are fragile defensively so Kane could be a good differential captain)

I think Kane is an interesting choice this week. Liverpool are basically a squad of 13/14 players. They need Lovren or Klavan to play today next to Matip otherwise Spurs will do them.

Siggy...because I captained him last year and it failed...redemption time! Also...Leicester.

Also, other usual suspects not too appealing:

      - Sanchez...out of form Arsenal playing an improving Hull who've shut out United and Liverpol in the last two and played well @ Chelsea.

      - Ibra...will probably score against Watford...but no more than one.

      - Costa away at Heaton towers...nah

      - Lukaku away @ Middlesbrough...nah

      - Eriksen gone off the boil away @ Liverpool...nah

      Siggy. I think.

He's on every set piece against a shaky Leicester defence. If Swansea score, which you think they will, he'll be involved.

Although last week (Kane over Lukaku) still hurts. Might make an 11:29 switch to the safety of a certain Swede...

I'm going with Sanchez altough Siggy is tempting as a swans fan at the game.
When we played Southampton at home, we sat back for the majority of the game and Siggy had to be very clinical to get his haul. I expect Sanchez to get more clear chances this weekend.

Hell of a captain dilemma this week.
Sanchez but will he be played over Giroud with Munich in CL midweek, and Hull are looking good these days.
Lukaku after his 4, but Heaton will surely shotstop a couple,
Ibra, but he'll likely only get the one...

Siggy. All my fantasy football playing fibre tells me he's the best pick. Form, fixture vs one of the two worst defending teams at present, plus set-pieces and pens. I don't have Sanchez and Ibra could struggle at home vs a team sitting deep a la Burnley & Hull. He could do well though as could Kane but Siggy is the man for me this week.

MID: G.Sigurdsson, Eriksen, D.Ali, Matt Philips, De Roon

Made one sub already - Sigurdsson for Eriksen

Considering making Kane to Ibrahimovic for -4 because my main competitor has lbrahimovic and if he caps him and goes big i could fall further behind.

Hazard or Sanchez for this week? I have Costa in my team and full Arsenal Defence. Anyone think Arsenal will CS?

    Thanks

They should. Think they'll be looking to send a message after the fan response to the Chelsea loss.

start heaton (CHE) or grant (CPL)?

    - grant higher cs chances; lower save potential; lower baps potential
    - heaton should concede however much higher upside if he keeps a cleanie i.e. 15 pointer

looking at chelsea's form home and away, I reckon heaton has very less chance for a CS.

Yes. Depends on the results of the 5th round FA Cup matches.

Max out Everton and Brom, get Siggy and Jaku in goal

Beyond that, attacking players from Bournemouth or West Ham.

If you've not planned at all though, wouldn't go too mad destroying your team...it's only one GW

getting the right balance for GW28 is key, getting too many players from WBA/Everton/Swansea etc will mean they might not have dgw's to re-visit later and your team will then need major re-surgery... at a high price if no w/c left.

Think I might role a dice to decide my Captain from Ibra, Sanchez and Siggy...

I wish I had a Man City attacker to make this easier.

Not sure that's worth the -4 over the next few given they both blank twice, plus I want Ibra for 27.

    This one is doing my head in;
A: Play Holabas and save FT (to potentially do C next week)
B: Amat to Funes Mori for a FT
C: Amat & Gray to Coleman & Niasse for a hit (would bench Niasse this week but then have him in place for the plum fixtures in 26 & 28)
    Cheers!!

I'd go Carroll, but check Ben dinnery twitter first to see if he thinks he will play. Might be photos of him training.

Hmm, he will play if he can I'd imagine but is very unlikely to play the full 90 either way.

drop Kane or Ali? I have Walker also which is 3 Spurs and I don't like doing that - I prefer wider selection of players from different teams
