The Stock Check – Gameweek 25 – Monday

Raheem Sterling displays his improved consistency by bagging the opener in City’s win at Bournemouth. The Gabriel Jesus bandwagon comes to a halt prior to blank Gameweek 26 as he limps off early with a foot injury.Meanwhile, Junior Stanislas’ tumble down the Bournemouth pecking order continues as he’s benched for the second successive Gameweek. Here’s the Stock Check following Monday’s Gameweek 26 finale…

On the Rise

Raheem Sterling
Having started the last ten Gameweeks, Sterling has now returned two goals and eight assists over that spell; he could have had a ninth had substitute Sergio Aguero managed to divert his initial touch to the winger’s cross on target.

That outstanding run of form has unfortunately coincided with the emergence of Gabriel Jesus and the doubts surrounding City’s missing fixtures.

Once we’re beyond Gameweek 28, Sterling will surely enjoy greater interest having delivered so consistently. However, it should be noted that City face Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea in their three matches to follow the potential Gameweek 28 blank.

Leroy Sane
On the opposite flank, Sane also sparkled against the Cherries.

He’s now started the last four Gameweeks and has delivered a goal and two assists in that spell – like Sterling, he was unfortunate not to find further profit from Monday’s encounter having struck the bar.

However, priced at 7.5 to Sterling 7.8, it’s unlikely that he will enter into the equation as more than a differential.

In Decline

Gabriel Jesus
Missing Gameweek 26 and, in all probability, also set to sit out Gameweek 28 should City progress to the FA Cup Quarter Finals, Jesus picked up a foot injury at the Vitality Stadium to compound matters.

Handed his third successive start by Pep Guardiola, the young Brazilian suffered an apparent foot injury challenging for a cross and, despite his best efforts, was forced to limp off after just 15 minutes.

Guardiola confirmed post-match that Jesus would be assessed, but offered little more than that by way of a prognosis.

Brought in by more than 210,00 ahead of Monday’s outing, his owners will at least have the comfort that they were forced to go into the next Gameweek benching or selling the striker.

The will now wait on the verdict from City, in the hope that it puts no doubt over Jesus’ starting role for the Gameweek 27 fixture away at Sunderland.

Opportunity may just knock for Sergio Aguero.

Junior Stanislas
Benched at Goodison Park in Gameweek 24, the winger suffered the same fate in Monday’s encounter as Eddie Howe opted to hand Jordan Ibe a first start in three months.

It was felt that Stanislas missed out at Everton due to a shift in formation but, on the evidence of Monday’s teamsheet, he now faces a battle to reinstate himself in the starting XI – an unwelcome development for his 133,000 owners who were looking to him to help cover the Gameweek 28 blanks.

The fact that Marc Pugh was introduced as Ibe’s replacement with 15 minutes to go offers further indication of Stanislas’ rank in the current pecking order.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Some help here would be mucho appreciatos;

    Foster (Grant)

    Brunt, Coleman, PVA (Morgan, Amat)

    Eriksen, Sanchez*, Zaha, Phillips (Capoue)

    Ibra*, Kaku, Kun*

    With Ibra, Kun and Alexis all not playing, I thought about dropping Kun and Alexis to the bench and transferring;

Morgan, Capoue and Ibra to Maguire, Feghouli and Kane. I have 2FT’s and 0ITB.

I would get rid of Amat and Ibra personally > Fernandez/Robertson and Kane/Costa then do Capoue to Snodgrass next gw.

Smooth - getting Evans goal and Brunt assist in the final minutes of WHU v WBA

Rough - er, what do you mean his goal has been given to McAuley's fringe? 😉

I can when so few of my mini league even own Sanchez or Sigurdsson.

My benchmark of success revolves around my quest for a cash prize in my main mini league.

Also last November I had three sub 30 scores in a row and dropped 1m places in a month. My spectrum of rough and smooth has been to the highest and lowest points so yep, green arrow and points from a captain is a success. 🙂

Rough: McAuley decision meaning I lost 10 points on ML Leader as well as losing my H2H match versus same person instead of winning by 1 point. Would have made me go top in H2H league

I see you're still 4 points behind Owen Hargreaves in the PL Pundits v Presenters league.
And you only beat Seema Jaswal 64-45 in the semi-final of the FPL Show Cup.
Dare you show your face in the next Scoutcast and FPL Show after such a horrendously unlucky game-week or will you have to throw a couple of sickies?

You're only in 8th position on our Live Hall of Fame too, and didn't you win one of the FFS Cups recently?
I also seem to remember a couple of occasions in the past when Boydinho came off the bench rather fortuitously for you.
This bad luck seems to have been dogging you for years!

I had a gut feeling for Gabbiandini, which made the difference. Sanchez scores well in these fixtures even without goals. That's the thing with FanDuel, if your strikers don't fire, it makes a huge difference on your score. Unfortunately, I also had Jesus, but he was popular so didn't cause me huge issues. Defoe was your main issue.

      Well as you asked...

Sanchez (c) was enjoyable. A fortunate handball and a penalty which wasnt great

Bringing in the big dog Alfie Mawson for Jones so I didn't have to play Holebas while hoping for a clean sheet and maybe a BP. The goal was the icing 🙂

It's nice yeah, been a couple of seasons now since I was this high (and I know it's not really that high) at this stage of the season.

Hearing your thoughts on the Scoutcast, a rank climb was inevitable as it seems the 3/4 of you as a whole are making really good decisions at present. If you can nail the blanks/DGWs etc, I reckon top 5k is on the cards.

Hi Mate. I sent an email to Glynn last night - I just needed a little break from FPL after Lukakugate to recharge the batteries and re-focus. OR took a big dent. It was hard to take when I was advising everyone to get him in and cap him, but yet it was hard for me to get him in, so I just hoped for the best and got badly burnt.

Lesson learnt - go with your gut at all times. Every time I haven't this season, it has gone badly wrong.

Yeah it's hard to take when things like that happen and I've often given myself a week off. Hopefully you had a good week this time round and sure you'll quickly recover that OR.

Cheers. Sanchez (c), Coleman/Baines double up, and Lallana to Siggy for my FT. A small green arrow on the road to recovery.

Sitting tight now on FA Cup results before finally deciding on the moves for next week. Only have Sanchez and Ibra with blanks, but will defo sell at least one of them. I need Lukaku as he will 100% be my cap with that woeful Sunderland defence.

                Top 5k - blimey! That's a scary thought.

Given that I've only gotten into the top 10k once to do it again would be the main aim but I'd certainly love top 5k.

Not getting ahead of myself though, been a tough season so far and the blanks could really hurt me.

Rough benched bellerin Allen and mcauley.

In saying that, I played pieters over bellerin and he got bps. It was crouch or Allen and so I went with form and mcauley, well that was a fluke. So I don't think the decisions were wrong just doesn't look good having a full scoring bench.

        Ok… hands up… I did it.

Couple of things. Arsenal fan, share a season ticket, watch every game live or on TV. From what I’ve seen recently, I genuinely thought we’d struggle on Saturday. I thought we’d draw, but if we won, it would only be 1-0. Been really impressed with Hull recently, we’ve been all over the place, and assumed one eye would be on the Allianz.

Hull should’ve gone 1-up after some brilliant wing play from Markovic and horrific centre forward play from Niasse. That could’ve changed things. Then there’s a handball goal and a penalty Jakupovic could’ve kicked away… but hey, despite believing in all the above, I have to be man enough to admit it was a mistake. I still stand by the reasoning – team looked void of confidence, UCL concentration and fixture list of blank-liv-blank-wba-MCY – but obviously I should’ve waited until after Hull.

I’ve gone from 5k to 30k and I can no longer taste red wine, but I’ve had a lot of luck this season. Time to bounce back from some pain.

It’s only fantasy football. Ish 🙁

I got rid of him gwk24 after I priced myself out of Giroud & Stanislas to Lukaku + Caroll by 0.1 because I waited for Saturday morning to make the transfer rather than doing it earlier. So ended up doing Sanchez + Giroud to KDB + Lukaku. (put the armband on KDB rather than Lukaku).
This week I watched Sanchez score two in the early kick off, but had the hope that KDB would do something against bournemouth, luckily this week I captained Siggy.

All in all I'm not that upset with ditching Sanchez as I thought KDB was a good punt as I'm chasing - it just didn't work out. I've got two free subs this week so can try and make the points up with a bit of chelsea hokey cokey.

I'll be looking to bring him back in after the blanks

      smooth :- coleman, baines, pieters

rough:- Ibra Captain not Sanchez, Jesus, Brunt and a mini league full of mcauley and sterling owners.

Another week where team looks great and no reward.

Im still waiting for anyone to come up with a reasonable (with evidence, not "he looked like he may have touched it") argument for mcauley getting that goal.

NB. Blimey i hate social media gloaters/haters. Be humble when you get lucky and empathetic when others get shockers.

NB2. I really miss the Ultimate game. Far less luck involved, sometimes this feels like a lottery, granted skill and knowledge are also required to win

        Similar here 😆

8k OR going into Man City's SWA(h), BOU(a) and I have Aguero. GW24, First move is to bring in Jesus for Giroud (ignoring Lukaku v BOU(h)...) and captain Aguero. Aguero comes off the bench for 8 mins earning 1 point. Jesus scores a brace. Lukaku goes nuts.

Not to repeat the error, switch captain to Jesus for GW25. Gave Aguero one more game and a 0.1m price drop, so nice to be rewarded with his 5 pts 😀

Two 1pt captains back-to-back, but thankfully the rest of my squad have done the business and I'm only down to 16k OR.

As in WCing just for the DGWs is not necessarily the best route to take.

Ruth_NZ has also got the theory about BB being used early in the season as well, when you know there will be less injury and rotation.

Well I have used my bench boost already gameweek 2 when i new all my bench would play. I have 1490 points and just outside the top 500 overall I am not scared of anyone with a bench boost in double gameweek. Same with all your chips use them when they will yield the most points dg don't mean your bench boost is going to give you more than I got.

There is nothing smooth to find, not even with a microscope.
Ended up with 33 points. I repeat, 33!!!
Gw rank 3.9m so beaten by most. Worst week in any game I've played since I started in late 80's early 90's.

Once many years ago in a game that is about value, where players increase in value depending on goals, assist, goals scored by team, CS's, allowed goals, wins etc I ended up on negative ie I lost value in a week. That was because transfers cost a %age of a players price and I had to do lots of transfers to set my self up for coming blanks and such.
But that time it was needed and got me a better OR in coming weeks.

      This was just horrible.

A poor week really, 49 points and no big performances apart from Sanchez who I didn't captain (and was rather lucky anyway). Still, if you are going to be below average it's better in a low-scoring week, was only a smallish red.

The smoothest part was rolling a FT so I have two going into GW26.

I feel like I got out of jail a bit with de Jesus. But the way I continue to be punished for not picking a 38 year-old in GW1 still bewilders me, especially when he is so clearly favoured by fortune.

I think Ibra cappers can consider themselves rather unlucky compared to Sanchez cappers like myself.

I remember talk at the start of the season that said 38 year old would not be a regular this season, due to his age. And what has happened to Dawson this season? McAuley was just as big a threat last season as this, but only scored 1 goal. I think many of us feel the same way as you.

Rough... Sold Sanchez. I just felt Arsenal were in terrible form, Hull were so rejuvenated. Giroud would be in the middle and Sanchez mightnt play much longer than 60 minutes with CL. So decided to ship him and hold Ibra. Sanchez was fortunate and it could easily have gone Ibra and not Sanchez' way. Brunt 0pts. Cedric and McAuley on the bench. Triple Spurs attack. No Alonso clean sheet and another Phillips blank who's now in danger of being dropped. Mentioned Mawson 'double figure haul incoming' half a dozen times in the comments section also which has added to my feelings of self pity of the gameweek that was definetly my biggest mess up..

Back 50k places to 180k but there's still 13 big gw's to make up some ground and beat my 37k rank last rank year. And a lot more lessons to be learned too.. Roll on 26!!

Pep, this game has a nasty way of kicking you badly when you least expect it. The feeling that those points are gone forever is the bitter pill to swallow. All you can do is try double hard to recover loss ground. And trust me, no matter how good you are, or how long you have played this game, you will have this situation again. It's lessening the frequency of them, how many good decisions you make in between that will determine your OR in the future.

Bit of both - transferred in Coleman so now benefitting from the epic Coleman Sir Leighton double up. Applied a hedge by starting Carroll, with McAuley first sub. If Carroll played I wanted his goals, but if not wanted McAuley's potential. G Mac subs in for 8 points! Own Sanchez, but captained Siggy. Grant finally brings home the bacon before shocking fixtures so it's a golden goodbye, for the Jak. Alli & Eriksen is rough, but I am hoping for great things from them still.

Rough.... Benched McAuley, captained Jesus. Had our Lord and Saviour had his accident in the warm up instead of 10 mins in, I'd have got McAuley in off the bench, and had a reasonable Vc in Ibra.

Happy to own Sanchez, but not captaining him is rough, especially given who I did captain.

Coleman and Pieters did their best to save me from a terrible week.

Rough- sold Sanchez. Considering the way arsenal and hull had played before the match, it seemed like a good decision. I still stand by it. Bad luck I think. Red arrow. Back to 1.2 million.
Smooth- Siggy, ibra(c), mori Sterling. Another short term punt paid off. Ex: rondon, Payet, capoue.

Smooth: Having been set on doing Holebas to Maguire all week, I had to change my plans Friday evening when Jones was confirmed out. So I did Jones to Alfie Mawson instead so that I would get a playing GW28 defender who I also could play this week with some confidence. Turned out well. Also captained Alexis.

Rough: Carroll injury and all other players mostly scoring 0-2 points.

That Mawson transfer reminded of something similar I did with Steven Caulker back in the days. I love it when budget defenders come good!

      4 early transfers, 69(-8)
Got rid of this lot who were dragging me down-
Aguero, Benteke, Lallana, Collins for Costa, Lukaku, Snodgrass, Coleman

No immediate returns except Coleman but saved a lot of TV, got a great team and still got green arrows thanks to Sanchez(C), Siggy, Baines, Coleman, Ibra and Valencia.

    A. de Roon to Snodgrass for GW26, enabling Sigurdsson transfer for GW27 too
    B. Eriksen or Alli to Mané (making Sigurdsson signing impossible)

I Don't suppose there is any update on the Sky Sports stats being made correct for bonus is there?

Would find this really useful coming into the back end of the season....

      1. buffrey
        • 10 Years

        Any updates.

Just because FFS Don't get paid money by Sky doesn't mean the service that FFS offer to their customers should suddenly stop.

As many will know, I'm a big Sky player, like a fair few on here i"m sure and we pay our money just like the FPL players to get the members area in the promise that these Sky stats would be available. If it was said at the start of the season that they wouldn't be bothered with then its our choice to make, but its offered so Id expect it to be addressed..

of course I'm not naive to think game changes can instantly be fixed by 25 weeks, half a year, seems enough time in my opinion

Balders on your linked post is right, and to not even be updated seems a bit off.

I'm sure Im not the only one disappointed by this...

Well maybe if he around an update would be good and it appears there is a guy but he's just doing other things..

Just seems a bad reason not to satisfy customers the fact that they don't support the game. We still play the game and this is supposed to support us, hence why we pay.

Anyway, i'm not having a go at you, i know you've always flagged this when i've mentioned it and do appreciate it, but the lack of anything from anyone else is just galling..

              Nice one.

              Lets get this done!!

Will need table redesign I'd think to represent bonus tiers and then the calculations to represent the new points per value.

There will also be a load of back end stuff, but I literally know nothing about how the system infrastructure is set up, especially the automation part, so Mark or a mod would be best to let you know.

It's a little injury, he'll be fit for next game, Everton stated that. If the PL game was tomorrow, he would play. Just like Luiz (playing through injury), it's just that one gets flagged, the other doesn't.

          I'd say this probably didn't help - http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/everton-striker-romelu-lukaku-not-12600368

"The 23-year-old will instead travel to Belgium to see a doctor in the hope of being passed fit for the game with Sunderland on February 25.

Everton say the injury is "not serious" and, at this stage, expect him to be fit to face the Black Cats at Goodison."

For sure, but I think it's just about being consistent at this point, other players flagged for similar reports.

I guess the main question is, if you were looking to buy him and now you saw this news would it put doubts into your mind? It would for me

But as an owner already I'm not too bothered, I think he'll play. The doubt creeps in when looking to buy I reckon

Should have learnt my lesson with Jones. Kept him and sold Cedric instead.
Jones injuries just seem to linger. Utd a couple of comfortable clean sheets without him so not necessarily going to walk back into the team.
Think I have to sell him as it's a possible 3 blanks coming up. Looking like Funes Mori in.

Thought he could be Bailly's main partner and still might be but if he misses GW27 then it's as you say, likely to be 3 blanks.

Yes but Lukaku hasn't said he is fit, the club has said he will be fit, there's no grey area unless local hacks words mean more over the actual club for who the player plays for.

Can't flag players based on the press over the club or there will be all sorts of issues as they often get things wrong, the final word has to come from the club surely?

Didn't think they could out do Coutinhogate but they've smashed that out of the park.

When Moyes says that pickford is ready to start then I'm sure his flag will be removed. I'm also sure he'll be upgraded to doubt.

re Lukaku - as we all know now, FPL raises flags when there is doubt. They are not medical experts but they do look at the media and assess whether there is doubt.

I'm sure it will. It may be that as with Lukaku they are waiting for something official.
Moyes mentioned something about the medical team saying while fit he needed to wait...still not sure that time has passed - looks like it has - but would be great to get something from Sunderland on that.

Chambers against Palace away isn't a bad shout if that means I'll save a certain 4 points on getting rid of Stanislas, is it? Palace have the worst home record in the league and by a distance as well.

I'd take Chambers +4 over most defenders. Assured clean sheet points right there!

Hi. Is it worth taking a hit? First is free.

    A) Anichebe -> Niasse/Carroll
    B) Stanislas -> Snod / Lanzini

    Grant
    Alonso, Coleman, Brunt, Holebas
    Alli, Coutinho, Phillips, Stanislas
    Lukaku

    Pick, Sanchez, Ibra, Valencia, Anichebe

Ibra to Costa or Sanchez to haz? Got 1ft

Other option is to play tom Carroll away to Chelsea and also playing Siggy.

Ibra plays Bournemouth in gw27 so wary of that but think Bournemouth will tighten up by then somehow.
More value in Sanchez and would want to get him back in straight after gw28 whereas Ibra isn't as 'essential'.

    GTG?

    Grant
    Alonso/Coleman/Brunt/Robertson
    Mane/Dele/Eriksen/Phillips
    Costa/Kaku(c)

    Pickford/DeRoon/Holgate/Sanchez

*Mane in if Pools game confirmed

It would also help if FPL re-instated the ability to filter mini-leagues into Quarters not just Overall or months.

The list is getting quite long now....

      Bring back forum
      Bring back notes section
Change how blank gameweeks are displayed on the fixture list
Overall tally of goals, clean sheets and assists in history (including for the season we're currently in)
Ability to split mini leagues into quarters and not just overall

      Anything I missed? 🙂

I think that's a fair plan. You could arguably wait until GW31 to bring him back.

Just have to be careful how you spend the money in the meantime

Only problem being that his replacement is likely to have a blank in 28 as well
