The Stock Check – Gameweek 25 – Monday

Raheem Sterling displays his improved consistency by bagging the opener in City’s win at Bournemouth. The Gabriel Jesus bandwagon comes to a halt prior to blank Gameweek 26 as he limps off early with a foot injury.Meanwhile, Junior Stanislas’ tumble down the Bournemouth pecking order continues as he’s benched for the second successive Gameweek. Here’s the Stock Check following Monday’s Gameweek 26 finale…

On the Rise

Raheem Sterling
Having started the last ten Gameweeks, Sterling has now returned two goals and eight assists over that spell; he could have had a ninth had substitute Sergio Aguero managed to divert his initial touch to the winger’s cross on target.

That outstanding run of form has unfortunately coincided with the emergence of Gabriel Jesus and the doubts surrounding City’s missing fixtures.

Once we’re beyond Gameweek 28, Sterling will surely enjoy greater interest having delivered so consistently. However, it should be noted that City face Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea in their three matches to follow the potential Gameweek 28 blank.

Leroy Sane
On the opposite flank, Sane also sparkled against the Cherries.

He’s now started the last four Gameweeks and has delivered a goal and two assists in that spell – like Sterling, he was unfortunate not to find further profit from Monday’s encounter having struck the bar.

However, priced at 7.5 to Sterling 7.8, it’s unlikely that he will enter into the equation as more than a differential.

In Decline

Gabriel Jesus
Missing Gameweek 26 and, in all probability, also set to sit out Gameweek 28 should City progress to the FA Cup Quarter Finals, Jesus picked up a foot injury at the Vitality Stadium to compound matters.

Handed his third successive start by Pep Guardiola, the young Brazilian suffered an apparent foot injury challenging for a cross and, despite his best efforts, was forced to limp off after just 15 minutes.

Guardiola confirmed post-match that Jesus would be assessed, but offered little more than that by way of a prognosis.

Brought in by more than 210,00 ahead of Monday’s outing, his owners will at least have the comfort that they were forced to go into the next Gameweek benching or selling the striker.

The will now wait on the verdict from City, in the hope that it puts no doubt over Jesus’ starting role for the Gameweek 27 fixture away at Sunderland.

Opportunity may just knock for Sergio Aguero.

Junior Stanislas
Benched at Goodison Park in Gameweek 24, the winger suffered the same fate in Monday’s encounter as Eddie Howe opted to hand Jordan Ibe a first start in three months.

It was felt that Stanislas missed out at Everton due to a shift in formation but, on the evidence of Monday’s teamsheet, he now faces a battle to reinstate himself in the starting XI – an unwelcome development for his 133,000 owners who were looking to him to help cover the Gameweek 28 blanks.

The fact that Marc Pugh was introduced as Ibe’s replacement with 15 minutes to go offers further indication of Stanislas’ rank in the current pecking order.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Alonso - Walker - Baines - Chambers - Evans

thanks.I think i 'll sell him because he'll propably fall 0.3 until gw 29,2 blanks,a difficult away game with Liverpool though he will be the threat from Arsenal. But also in three gameweeks(26,27,28) Hazard for example can return 20 points from gw 26,27 or even better Barkley or Snodgrass. At last i think its very important to make a plan to get him back in gw 29.

So I've just seen the '2nd West Brom Goal', I know this topic has been and gone but I kind of just brushed over the comments on here and assumed it was a feint touch by McAuley... the guy is at least a foot away from the ball... how on earth was he awarded the goal???

Saw a picture from an alternative angle that indeed showed Mcauley was a good foot away from it, but it was just a picture which can be misleading. Unfortunately there were no other angles in video shown to prove it.

This. It does look like Evans headed it down onto his head from one angle but he's a 'foot away' from another. How our eyes can be decieving. 🙂

Also when he made contact with the ball his chin was touching his chest, his head then shot back up which gives the illusion of it changing direction off McAuley's head.

Yeah, we need to see the angles used to come to the decision. I saw a preview of said angle (side on view) and so I have faith that the call was correct. It must have been scrutinised to death and so therefore we have to believe that there was a clear deflection. Although my first reaction to seeing the goal from the angle that MoTD had was obviously to go with Evans, Opta thought otherwise and MC confirmed and upheld it.

Leading my cash ML, just wanted some thoughts.

If you are leading (70pts currently) is the 'safe' move to hold Sanchez and Ibra despite the blanks, wait to make transfers until after FA Cup games and try and accommodate say 8-9 players for GW28? Then slowly build in DGW players and then WC, TC, BB etc?

Appreciate not quite that simply but just want to hear how other people are dealing with the blanks?

    1. Snevitz

I am benching Ibra and Sanchez, I have a reasonable squad for 26 and have so much value tied up in Sanchez.
Once I get Siggy in fro Alli i will have 9 starting in 28, not worried about fielding 11 as I will want my squad back to normal afterward. I've used my WC though so don't have an easy fix.

Safe strategy is to aim for 8 or 9 players in GW28, but take a view once FA cup fixtures are completed. If GW28 turns out to be a low scoring week (which statistically it is likely to be) then missing out a few players in one week is better than drastic surgery to put out 11.
Do your ML rivals still have WC to play? If you have yours then you are certainly in the box seat. Let them take the gambles.

How to screw up a season?
Started out fine, OR 88k after gw3 but then....

Here are some of my avg points(base), have not included those with just a couple of appearances. Get them while they are hot, or not!
Foster 3.3 - A lost point per week against most but ok.
    Özil 3.3
    Defoe 2.5
    Antonio 2.5
    Arnie 2.4
    Mustafi 2.3
    Phillips 2.3

To highlight the importance of getting the right player at the right time!
    Mane 6.5
    Firmino 2

Then my favourite miss of the season.
    Alexis 2.5

Romelu Lukaku has been unable to travel to Everton’s training camp in Dubai because of a calf problem which will require treatment.

The 23-year-old striker will visit a doctor in Belgium this week, though the problem is not serious and he will be fit for the Blues’ Premier League game against Sunderland on Saturday 25 February.
