Team Analysis – Assessing Silva’s Hull City

Written off as relegation certainties just over a month ago, Hull City’s survival bid has been given a significant shot in the arm since the arrival of new manager Marco Silva.

Two wins and a draw in five matches under the Portuguese’s stewardship, supplemented by clean sheets against the likes of Mancheser United and Liverpool, have seen many Fantasy Premier League managers assess the KCOM outfit in a new light.

Key to Hull’s appeal is, of course, that they play in both Gameweek 26 and 28 – indeed, Silva’s men are one of just eight sides currently set to feature in the latter round of matches.

As the interest starts to escalate in light of this weekend’s FA Cup results, we cast an eye over Hull’s recent matches, comparing the numbers to their previous statistics for signs of progress, while checking out the Tigers’ chief performers as we look to navigate the tricky upcoming schedule.

If Arsenal win tomorrow, I will probably do Sánchez to Mané, and I already have Firmino in my team. Somewhat tempted to get Pedro or Hazard but I have Alonso and Costa, which probably is enough for blank gameweek 28.

Full Scout Notes will arrive again in the morning and Perchino will follow up with an article on Tuesday but here’s a handy check on the status of fixtures as a result of today’s results.

    Known knowns…

These teams are currently guaranteed a fixture in GW28

    Bournemouth
    Burnley
    Everton
    Hull City
    Liverpool
    Swansea City
    West Brom
    West Ham

Middlesbrough vs Sunderland in GW28 will now be postponed due to Boro’s progress.

Chelsea vs Watford in GW28 will now be postponed due to Chelsea’s progress.

Crystal Palace vs Spurs in GW28 will now be postponed due to Spurs’ progress.

Southampton vs Manchester United in G28 will now be postponed due to United’s progress.

    Known unknowns…
Manchester City vs Stoke is still uncertain pending City’s replay with Huddersfield. This replay will be played on Tuesday Feb 28 so we will have confirmation prior to GW27.

Arsenal vs Leicester City is still uncertain pending the Gunners’ tie with Sutton on Monday.

    Following this tweet

    https://twitter.com/sistoney67/status/833012421828698112

which suggests that Pep mentioned the possibility that City may have played their GW28 fixture with Stoke in GW26 had they booked progress today, there is now chatter suggesting that United may have their GW28 fixture with Southampton moved to GW26.

Personally, I’d say this is unlikely unless arrangements for that scenario have already been made to this effect to prepare for policing etc but I’ll try to make enquiries and certainly, it’s a situation to monitor pending tomorrow’s match.

With one tie taking place on Friday March 10, there is also talk that, should the Chelsea vs United tie be allocated to that date, Chelsea could retain their GW28 fixture with Watford.

Again, this would seem very unlikely. Chelsea have already announced to ticket holders that the game with Waford is now subject to being rescheduled.

    http://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2017/02/watford-match-ticket-update.html

In addition, as Netley Lucas mentions below, there is a L16 Europa League tie scheduled for Thursday 9/3 so, if United progress as expected, that would make it extremely unlikely for the tie with Chelsea being played on the Friday. It seems very likely that this tie will be Sunday/Monday.

5 in the Everton West Brom game. Still there's not many weeks that all of the players in your startin XI get in the point so not really much less chance of doing well as any other game week.

Plus I'd imagine it will be a gameweek rife with hits. So fielding 11 without one will most likely be a decent score on its own.

Spreading 11 over 8 teams is likely to score better. Guessing you have 3 defenders from the 5 so you aren't guaranteed points there.

No one is guranteed points in any given gameweek with any given players.

Even if some players get only 2 points. They add up, especially alongside others with hits.

Ok, I can put out 10 or even 11 without hits but I'm not even sure I want those baggies after GW 27.West Ham midfield is a lottery which can occasionally have no winners and getting players from the others hoping for mega points is just being optimistic. GW 29 will be interesting one way or the other.

Hey guys, would appreciate some help with this...

    Line-up for GW26 currently:
    Jaku
    Alonso Baines Nyom
    Mane Eriksen Siggy Phillips Fletcher
    Lukaku Benteke
    (Grant, Amat, Mustafi, Ibra)

    0FT, £6.1m ITB.

    A) Benteke > Kane for a -4 and play fletcher this week. This would leave me with 8 playing in GW28 and 2FTs before then, so would need to take another -4 to get 11 players.

B)Mustafi > Coleman/Hull DEF for a -4 and bench fletcher, play Benteke this week. Would leave me with 9 players for GW28 so no hit needed to get 11 out in GW28.

    C) Leave as it is and don't take a hit this week.

    1. Limited & Mediocre Mana…
      • 8 Years
      7 years, 2 months ago

      A) and I certainly wouldn't stress making 11 players for 28 a priority, 10 will do just fine if you'd need to take a hit.

The dullard in me says C but I've taken 11 hits this season so can't really talk.

Yep, I think if you're aiming for 7-8 players in GW28 then it's a good move, Costa has good fixtures before and after GW28. I can see where you're coming from too, need to balance having enough players for GW28 with preparing for fixtures after GW28

Doing Snoddy to Firmino this gw with the double up with Mane, was going to leave it but vs that Leicester defence, he'll surely get something, will probably take out either him or Alli gw29 for Sanchez... Will do the Mee to Maguire and Jesus to Carroll moves to get out a good 11 over the next 2 gameweeks. Views?

Spurs dominated the game but Fulham aren't a great team so doesn't really mean they are on the up. TBH it's difficult to take much from the game either way IMO.

Is the favoured scenario still to save your WC for the week before the DGW to sort yourself with the BB (option A), or alternatively, use your transfers to get a solid GW28 team and using the wildcard to get the big guns back in GW29 (option B) as the majority of these will have DGWs down the line anyway?

Will be probably do Sanchez --> Mane for GW26, but with the other FT would you prefer Heaton --> Jaku or Amat --> Coleman? I'm leaning towards the latter.. Will then do Heaton --> Jaku for GW27 in all likelihood... Would give me 9 for GW28...

It was sarcasm, sorry if you didn't understand, that's the reason he won't keep a clean sheet in GW28, Jaku has a better chance... No point in playing Heaton for 2-3 pts in GW28 if you want to make the swap anyway and have Jaku from GW29 onwards

Yeah, that's true... I could get another Liverpool mid, otherwise there's no one I'd be too keen to get... But then I'd be stuck with two Liverpool mids and no Spurs mid for GW29 onwards.... I don't know whether I want to do that or not... I think 9 for GW28 is enough anyway... It's tough to decide though...

Jaku is better in long-term, not many good home games left for Heaton anymore, plus Jaku is cheaper and I need that for GW29 onwards to get Sanchez back... Plus Jaku plays Liverpool in GW28, so will get 2-3 points... Jaku might get a lot more... For free it's very reasonable me thinks...

    Alonso Brunt Baines Holebas Amat
    Sanchez Alli Siggy Phillips DeRoon
    Ibra Defoe Costa
    2 FT, 1.9 itb

      Ok, so:

Tnx all for the response on the last one. Level 2 🙂

I got Rondon + Ibra. Rondon is leaving my squad in GW29 for either Carroll or Llorente (I prefer a healthy Carroll), but if I chose to go the Kane route I can get Carroll/Llorente for Ibra in 28 (extra player in GW28) and than do Rondon > Kane in GW29. I'd still like Ibra back for GW34 (the potential DGW), but that comes at the expense of 2 transfers. So now:

    6 games from GW28 to GW33
    a) Ibra (blanks GW28)
    b) Kane (blanks GW28) + Carroll/Llorente in GW28 - 2FTs

When is the best time to shift Spurs assets to Liverpool assets in readiness for GW28 do we think ?

So if I have Alli & Erikkson and 1FT now, would you shift none / one or both of them (for a hit) to Mane / Courtinho / Firmino before Stoke at home this weekend ?
