Scout Notes – FA Cup – Monday

Arsenal dodge a bullet to complete the FA Cup quarter-final line-up and confirm a Gameweek 28 blank for themselves and Leicester City.

Sutton United 0 Arsenal 2

Goals from Lucas Perez and Theo Walcott (courtesy of assists from Granit Xhaka and Alex Iwobi) ended both Sutton’s FA Cup dream and perhaps sealed the fate of Alexis Sanchez as a short-term Fantasy asset.

Arsene Wenger made seven changes from the side humbled in Munich, with Walcott up front, Rob Holding in for the injured Laurent Koscielny and Sanchez on the bench. Hector Bellerin and the much-maligned Mesut Ozil were not involved.

The only sour note on the night was a possible injury to midfielder Mohamed Elneny, who received treatment on the pitch in the first half and was replaced by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at half-time.

Whatever the ins and outs of the team, the bottom line is that the Gunners will now miss both Gameweek 26 – due to Southampton’s involvement in the EFL Cup final – and the Gameweek 28 visit of Leicester.

That is highly likely to prompt continued sales in key Arsenal assets, with Sanchez the major casualty.

Fantasy Premier League’s leading points scorer, the Chilean is already the third most transferred-out player with over 76,000 sales – with 6000 of those arriving in the last 24 hours. Olivier Giroud is also placed in the top ten, with Koscielny just outside it.

The Gunners’ immediate schedule doesn’t help their cause either, with Liverpool away and a home clash against Manchester City to come over their next three matches.

Double Gameweeks will boost their stock again further down the line, with a strong run of four fixtures following the Gameweek 30 visit of Pep Guardiola’s side but, for now, many will now be implementing exit plans.

Arsenal XI: Ospina, Gabriel, Mstafi, Holding, Monreal, Elneny (Oxlade-Chamberlain 45), Xhaka, Lucas, Reine-Adelaide (Maitland-Niles 74), Iwobi (Sanchez 74), Walcott.
Subs not used: Martinez, Debuchy, Mertesacker, Gibbs.

    Hi all

Gtg for the weekend? Decided to go full on gw28 with 2fts: Mane and Siggy for KdB and Sanchez giving me:

    Jaku / Randolph
Alonso Brunt RFM / Pieters 4.0
    Fletcher Siggy Antonio Mane Alli
    Rondon Kaku © / Ibra
    6.1 itb

Definitely looks odd! But decent for 28 as well, with 9/11 having a game.

Only question remaining; do I keep Rondon? Lol. He's so so bad.

    Thanks!

Don't really want Carroll either. Could do Costa for the -4 but meh. Surely he's gotta score vs. Bournemouth!!

    Hi All,

Stuck with a 5th midfielder option - i'm doing Sanchez to Mane and Stanislas to someone ...
i'm edging towards Josh King - sole striker positioned as a midfielder ... any better options around this price? was also thinking Lanzini or Markovic ..
    Help!

Lanzini is a good shout, as is King - although neither immune to rotation so risky

      can't afford Barkley?

    Foster/Pickford
    Holebas, Alonso, Baines, Amat, Yoshida
    Lallana, Eriksen, Siggy, Phillips, Sanchez
    Anichebe, Lukaku, Ibra

    2FTs

Pretty set on Sanchez to Mane

Also want to do a def transfer for 11 this week (and boost numbers for GW 28).

    Yoshida out for:
    A) Coleman (so double Everton def)
    B) Hull def

Yoshida out for Maguire or else far too much cash in defence - although why not take Amat out given he's never going to play, ever - and Yoshida will have doubles to come

There is literally nothing in Mane's stats that makes a compelling case for an extra 1m over Firmino and Coutinho. I haven't watched their last two matches - is it just the eye test he's winning at? Apart from actually scoring of course...

He's not exactly a bonus magnet either given the amount of goals he's scored.

Looking at ditching Sanchez for one but could do with the extra cash to upgrade 5th midfielder for the GW28. I can basically have Firmino and Coutinho or say Mane and Snodgrass/Phillips type.

What are the arguments for Mane?

Comparison tool favours Firmino and Coutinho

Mane just has more shots on target from the chances he has

Highest goal involvement of any Liverpool player...especially at home.

Most of their play is geared towards wingers and central midfielders scoring - they are the most involved in goals.

If coutinho looked in form I'd say he was the best, but he's not so Mane is currently looking the best.

I wonder if Coutinho's lack of form is mostly from Mane not playing

Also Firmino is getting the shots away and penalty area touches. Goal involvement hasn't been as good but going forward might improve?

I don't understand these comments - yes stats help us but look at the ability of the player! Mane is a great finisher and has been in recent seasons. He will score more because he is better at shooting. He also, as jonty says, looks the best. He could have had four against spurs - coutinho played well and firm was dangerous but neither of them got close to mate's threat

Is using the WC in gw29 or 30 a good strategy, or is there really that much of an advantage using it before the double gw37

Last season was tricky, because there was a blank GW35 between two big double game-weeks 34 and 37.

This time there may be only one major DGW (in GW37), and no more blanks after GW28, so DGW37 should be easier to prepare for.

I think you should think about what would be your ideal squad for GWs 29 to 36, and is it closer to what you have left after GW28 or to what you want for DGW37?

      1) Which Liverpool mid(s) are you getting and why?

      2) Do we risk missing out on good players just because they blank in GW28?

      3) Should Gareth McAuley be awarded 6 points for having his hair fluttered by the jet stream of Jonny Evans's passing header?

      4) Is FPL too obtuse and bureaucratic in awarding points? Does it risk infuriating too many players?

      5) Is it time for FPL to award points for "key contributions"?

      6) Why did three-quarters of the scoutcast ignore Sanchez as their captain choice in GW25?

      7) Sanchez and Ibra - bench or sell? If selling, do you have a plan in place to get them back?

      8) With Jesus injured, does Jonty's sweet prince have a shot at redemption post GW28?

      9) Are we getting too caught up in the blanks? Why are people taking -4 hits just to get 2 points in a single gameweek?

      10) Can Pedro cover Hazard's and Costa's points?

Pro, see my answer above regarding double Pool mids. My new plan is to stick to 3-5-2, and not get Ibra back for GW27. The fixture congestion for Utd is a factor I am now considering. Could Ibra get a rest that week anyway?

        1. FFPro
          • 9 Years

I'll have Phillips/Carroll as my last attacker to swap between 3-5-2 and 3-4-3. Mostly sticking to 3-4-3 though.

Ibra will play every league game. Not at all a concern. United need top 4

I also changed my plans. Getting Mane and Firm/Cout this week and looking at Alli->Siggy next gw. Gives me 3 weeks of a 2nd pool mid over Siggy (che) and Alli (EVE) for a FT.

            • 14 Years

I presume (can't check as at work) that Phillips and Carroll rotate well? Defo one of my mistake selling Carroll. Would you be concerned not owning Ibra in G27.

              • 9 Years

They do rotate really well, not sure if I can rely on Carroll's fitness though... May dump for Defoe/Gabbi at some stage before the dgws.

GW27 I'm captaining Ibra along with most I imagine, of course I'd be concerned unless you think a Siggy cap can outscore him?

I just don't fear a non-Ibra cap like I feared a non-Lukaku cap in GW24, and I want Lukaku in my team this week, so Ibra has to go. I think I am going to have to sacrifice Ibra for team balance.

Is it gonna be Deja vu all over again!

      - Allows to go all in on GWK 28
      - Allows us to not be too worried about spreading the Sanchez cash about
      - Allows us to ignore the fixture shifts around that time
      - We know who the DGWKers are going to be, and have a pretty good idea of when they're going to be, so still allows us to plan adequately in advance for that.

Latest that i have read on here is that DGW 34 may not be that big, but DGW 37 could be huge. Saving WC for GW36 seems reasonable because then we will know who is fighting for tha title, who for champions leagues spot and who is fighting for survival so that we can get players from those teams.

With Everton's fixtures it may be worth the triple up. But is there a viable option in midfield? Maybe Barkley.
      Or double on defence.

Does Liverpool at home to Burnley mean it is now too risky just to go a bit half-hearted (8/9 players etc.) at GW28?
Now there's a game in GW28 that could produced big points compared to the others that were already in place.

Short term pain for long term gain.

This week, I've overlooked Hazard (SWA - only got Alonso) and getting a further spur (only have Alli for STK) in favour of Siggy and Mane for gw28 fixtures.

It's absolutely logical, and hopefully will net out as a profit given the GW28 blanks - but is it the right decision? Feel like I'll be pummelled by Spurs and Chelsea this weekend and was seriously considering Eriksen instead of Siggy.

Are we placing too much emphasis on our long term and forgoing the short term gains?

Once the blanks are over who are the big hitters you need to plan for and how to enable them. If you were to do a scout picks for GW34 today what would it look like keeping in mind GW37 as well?

Do the triples seem more attractive than the double doubles? What do we make of the only GW 37 doubles.

How much benefit to overall rank do you think having no hits and full 11 in GW 26 will be

As for GW 28 is having 7 or 8 players if Man city go through to hold or climb again no hits

What effect will this have on people wildcarding , how big an increase and should people not so, ive chasing ML leader who will have 3 of 15 in GW 28 so far if man city go through in cup

Possibly before the deadline for GW29 then, but perhaps they will need a few more days to agree the dates with the TV companies.

Once we know those, we will be in a much better position to plan wildcards and transfers for the rest of the season.

Why would you have Sigurdsson away to Chelsea, and then ship before he plays Burnley at home? Sigurdsson also plays in gameweek 28, then he has Hull, Bournemouth and Middlebrough. Keep!

Carroll seems to be an ongoing injury risk but he might still be a better option than Benteke. The third striker slot is difficult to fill now, but from gameweek 29 Gabbiadini might be the man.

I feel phrases like 'having no Liverpool midfielder will hurt you' is total nonsense. Are people suggesting all of them well get huge scores in the next 3, more so than any other options.. surely not. Having any of them could hurt you because you don't have the other, with one you are only a little bit less exposed than having none!

I think they will get good scores over the course of the season:

            1) Had a winter break
            2) Only playing once a week (which is ideal for a squad as low in quality outside the first eleven like theirs)
            3) Back to full strength (Coutinho not injured, Mane and Matip back)

Probably gonna get the other one in for GW 27 for Stanislas, but which one is most essential for GW 26? Siggy likely to rise tonight and Sanchez dropping so need to do the transfer today.

Mirallas, Jones and Sterling are concerns. Use a FT if u have one.

Good enough to be a bench fodder, cheapest starter at the moment I think...

Consider that only if you want to keep Sanchez, otherwise Sanchez to Mane is no brainer

Tbh I was looking at Sanchez & Defoe out for Pool mid & Costa.

But I'm 50-50 about selling Defoe for a hit. What do you think?

That seems great for this GW but how will u afford Sanchez back?
I'm thinking of using a FT to ship Defoe out for Barnes and getting a decent 5th mid instead. Also downgrading Baines later to afford Sanchez back.

You know actually option C isn't bad. Defoe & Capoue to Barnes & Firm/Cout/Lallana.

Wouldn't ship out Phillips before Bournemouth at home.

A, 3xMane v 1xSanchez over the next 3GW's (but it will take a second FT to get Sanchez back)

or Capoue to T.Carroll, then Eriksen/Alli to Siggy next GW

Alli/Erik + Capoue to Firmino/Coutino + Snodgrass not sure if you have enough money but that would allow you to keep Sanchez and Ibra and give you 2 extra playing players for the blanks

My team is in a right mess. Currently only have 8 (9 if Pickford starts) likely starters this week and just 4 for GW28. What to do?

          A) Wildcard
          B) Amat & Sanchez -> Baines & Mane (-4)
          C) Amat & Ibra -> Baines & Lukaku (-4)
          D) Sterling & Ibra -> Mane & Lukaku (-4)
          E) Sterling & Sanchez -> Firmino & Hazard (-4)
          F) Sanchez & Benteke -> Firmino & Lukaku (-4)

          Pickford
          Coleman, Brunt, Nyom
          Eriksen, Alli, Capoue
          Benteke, Carroll

Cech, Valencia, Amat, Sanchez, Sterling, Ibra
