Scout Notes – FA Cup – Monday

Arsenal dodge a bullet to complete the FA Cup quarter-final line-up and confirm a Gameweek 28 blank for themselves and Leicester City.

Sutton United 0 Arsenal 2

Goals from Lucas Perez and Theo Walcott (courtesy of assists from Granit Xhaka and Alex Iwobi) ended both Sutton’s FA Cup dream and perhaps sealed the fate of Alexis Sanchez as a short-term Fantasy asset.

Arsene Wenger made seven changes from the side humbled in Munich, with Walcott up front, Rob Holding in for the injured Laurent Koscielny and Sanchez on the bench. Hector Bellerin and the much-maligned Mesut Ozil were not involved.

The only sour note on the night was a possible injury to midfielder Mohamed Elneny, who received treatment on the pitch in the first half and was replaced by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at half-time.

Whatever the ins and outs of the team, the bottom line is that the Gunners will now miss both Gameweek 26 – due to Southampton’s involvement in the EFL Cup final – and the Gameweek 28 visit of Leicester.

That is highly likely to prompt continued sales in key Arsenal assets, with Sanchez the major casualty.

Fantasy Premier League’s leading points scorer, the Chilean is already the third most transferred-out player with over 76,000 sales – with 6000 of those arriving in the last 24 hours. Olivier Giroud is also placed in the top ten, with Koscielny just outside it.

The Gunners’ immediate schedule doesn’t help their cause either, with Liverpool away and a home clash against Manchester City to come over their next three matches.

Double Gameweeks will boost their stock again further down the line, with a strong run of four fixtures following the Gameweek 30 visit of Pep Guardiola’s side but, for now, many will now be implementing exit plans.

Arsenal XI: Ospina, Gabriel, Mstafi, Holding, Monreal, Elneny (Oxlade-Chamberlain 45), Xhaka, Lucas, Reine-Adelaide (Maitland-Niles 74), Iwobi (Sanchez 74), Walcott.
Subs not used: Martinez, Debuchy, Mertesacker, Gibbs.

How long is Niasse nailed for? Safe punt for a few weeks some good fixtures too?

Hernandez is injured but the site say expected back 11 March (GW28).

    Appreciate your thoughts!

Aye. The whole point of a punt is that it isn't safe, it's a risk.

    Bottomed πŸ™‚

I realized I'm 100 points off the 100k OR. Being an optimist, I am trying to figure out ways to make up those points and need your suggestions!

    Current team for GW 26:

    Heaton (Foster)
    McAuley Fonte Coleman Baines (Love)
    Siggy Snoddy Alli Eriksen (Fletcher)
    Costa Lukaku(C) (Ibra)

    Here's the plan so far:
    - Captain Ibra in GW27
    - Replace Eriksen with Liv mid before GW 28
    - Get Sanchez ONLY after the international break

If you were in my position, how would you go about making up that huge gap - what changes you would make/what differentials you would pick?

    Thanks!

You'll jump up several places in the rankings by preparing for GW28 when others haven't. There's a good chance you'll either be in the top 100k by GW29 or very close to it.

        Thanks. I'm counting on it.

I currently plan on having 9-10 players for that GW, is that enough - considering also the players I have in my team (not exactly cheap fodder) ?

You can have both quantity and quality. Maybe also go Love ➑️ Maguire if you have the funds.

Obviously looking a bit ahead here but that team looks to have decent fixtures in GW29 too, so you could roll the transfer over and bring some more big guns back in GW30.

I think its important to have one tbh. They've just had a 2 week break to sort themselves out and looked good again vs Spurs. Think now that their front 3 is back they will go back to high goal scoring

Well it depends on the time frame.
For me it's likely it would be a small time frame, through 28, then I'd turn to Alexis, Haz, Pedro, Wally or possibly Yaya/Silva/Mata guys with doubles. Siggy will stay put.

Should mention I've blown WC so my situation may differ.
Point is, in such a small time frame it's quite possible the one I pick wont return more then those I mentioned.

Not really as obvious a decision as many are making out - we had exactly the same decision around which Liverpool mid to get a couple of months ago and most said Coutinho and hardly anyone said Mane. A bit of form is the only difference.

        • 10 Years

Yeah, all 3 have their merit. Firmino out of position and always capable of goals in that position. Coutinho when playing to the best of his ability is an absolute beast. Mane, while good, I just feel like his returns are unsustainable

Tbh I went Mane because I'd already owned Bobby, Coutinho and Lallana at some points this season, so I fancied something different. Plus I do love owning Mane - was a shoo-in for me after a while when he was at Saints. Can easily get a hattie!

After the cup matches this weekend any suggestions be great.
GW 26. Any further transfers will be -4s.
    Jaku
    Brunt, Funes Mori, Van aanholt
    Phillips, Mane, Antonio, Erikson, Davies,
    Costa (C), Lukaku (V)
    De gea, koscielny, Yoshida, Ibra,
    11 players Playing

    Gameweek 28
    Jaku,
    Brunt, Funes Mori,
Phillips, Mane (C), Antonio (V), Davies,
    Lukaku
    Same bench as GW 26
Thinking siggy for erikson before GW 27
And Clyne for Van aanholt before GW 28,
Will give me 10 players for GW 28, is it worth taking a -4 for costa at the start of GW 28 to field the full 11? If so who is best to bring in.

How do I look for GW28?

Two transfers Hazard>Mane, Holgate>Maguire gives me 10 starters:

    Jak or Heaton
    Brunt Mawson Maguire
    Firmino Mane(c) Phillips Siggy Fletcher
    Carroll

    Toby Ibra Alonso Kane

I have the choice of Holgate>Maguire and play 10, or sell Toby for Maguire and hope to play 11 but then I have the prob of wanting Hazard and Toby back...? Really can't see Holgate getting much game time and he's a DGW BB problem so I think I'm inclined to switch him next week for Maguire and roll with the 10 players. Typical I bring Jak in and now Heaton has a game!!

Have spent time on fantasy football in the last week or so but here's my team:

    Foster - Pickford
    Alonso - Coleman - Brunt - Pieters - Amat
    Sanchez - Eriksen - Sigurdsson - Phillips - Capoue
    Ibrahimovic - Lukaku - Defoe

I have one free transfer and 0.9m in the bank. Team is a bit of a mess at the moment.

    - Sanchez: good form but only one fixture in next three

    - Ibrahimovic: exact same boat as Sanchez

    - Phillips: been stone useless for the five games I've had him, waste of a fourth mid spot

    - Pieters: vile fixtures coming up

I just really have a feeling about Lukaku this GW, I dont think he's going to do well. This is coming from someone who captained him for his 4 goals vs Bournemouth. I can just see Sunderland sitting really deep and Lukaku is rubbish against teams who do that, Sunderland have everything to play for. Stoke on the other hand dont

But then there's Costa who scores for fun against Swansea, chelsea with the most goals scored this season vs Swansea with the least goals conceded. I dunno though, might just play it safe with Lukaku

I always get this feeling about Kaku, Bubz! It's why I didn't captain for the 4 goal salvo.

I actually have a decent feeling about him this week; my main problem is that I'm going to spend Sunday hoping Spurs don't score / score too many vs. Stoke, as I've only got Alli because I focused on GW28 players (got in Siggy/Mane).

Firmino have missed a lot of chances recently and goals will surely come. I also like the link-up with Coutinho. For me, it's also a money issue.

Why the overwhelming show of confidence for Kane all of a sudden? Hattrick against a Championship side and now he's the man to have? Spurs' last three league games have been 0-2, 1-0 and 0-0.

Would've got a Liverpool mid instead of Barkley. I'm guessing you made your transfer before the FA Cup results. No Lukaku is a worry because he's likely to be captained by many but your front three looks strong enough. Zaha to Siggy is a sound move for 27.

Ok so here is my plan to put out a full team in GW28 with a -12 for the next 3 weeks.
    Current team
    Pickford/Foster
    Amat/Valencia/Alonso/Brunt/Coleman
    Alli/Erikson/Philips/Siggy/De roon
    Kane/Ibra/Defoe

    for GW26
    Ibra to Lukaku
    De roon to Coutinho (-4)

    for GW27
    save transfer

    for GW28
    Amat to Mawson/Maguire
    Defoe to Carroll
    Valencia to Clyne (-4)
    Alli to Mane (-4)
    bench Alonso/erikson/kane

    Please critique

Not bad - you might see Mane rising exponentially if he gets a goal next Monday, though tbf I'm sure you'll have enough itb without the big guns.

And for GW28 that's not a bad -8 to get your xi on the pitch. My question would be what do you do then? Wildcard?

thanks, yes price changes will likely cause a rethink, and I'm not sure defoe to carroll for a hit is worth it. Plan after is an early wildcard when dgw info is out and use ft to work towards dgw

    A. Ibra>Costa
    B. Kings>Maguire/Robertson/Mawson
    C. Capoue>Morrison
    D. Sanchez>Liverpool mid
    D. Other

    2FTs & 1.7 in bank.

    Walker, McAuley, Coleman, Smith
    Siggy, Phillips, Erik, Capoue
    Lukaku, Defoe
    Heaton, Ibra, Sanchez, Kingsley

    A. Holgate

Oh yeah, definitely let de Roon or Pieters play - I have Fletcher making up my XI - it's a week for normally benched players to shine(!)

I'd be a bit tempted here to get Brunty in, actually. Don't think Holgate is good, and, as you say, you give yourself 7 for 28 - either hold next week, or take hits, and you can get to 9, 10, or 11 easily for 28 πŸ™‚

Your assumption is right. I've had Firmino for most of the first half of the season and dropped him when Coutinho got injured (change of playing position etc.) and got Coutinho for Swansea (when he returned from injury).
Fun fact: my point average for Sanchez is 11, madness.

Yeah, PL tweeted that game was postponed. Very unlikely they'd try to wedge a game in on the 13th, think the club would complain about fixture congestion, especially as other teams have had their games put back.

Straight swap Amat -> Robertson or Fernandez I reckon mate. I'm doing something similar that week and toying between Mawson and Fernandez for now. Hoping he (Mawson) doesn't score or do anything to draw more attention to himself... really looking to having him as a "4th defender" til I wildcard, perfect for either rotating in or coming off the bench with attacking points.
