The Stock Check – Gameweek 26 – Monday

Jamie Vardy resumes the party as Leicester City revive their title-winning performance levels to run Liverpool ragged, while Philippe Coutinho provides the only bright spark for the humbled Reds.

On the Rise

Jamie Vardy
The hat-trick in Gameweek 15 against Manchester City came from nowhere and, several months later, Vardy again seemingly plucked a performance from thin air to blitz Liverpool.

Chasing and hassling throughout, the hunger and energy was back in Vardy’s game. But that was coupled with two clinical finishes, reminiscent of his 24-goal title-winning campaign.

In Fantasy terms, our interest remains on ice. Judgement on any potential Leicester City revival has to be reserved until we assess them against Marco Silva’s Hull City, a team that will surely be more savvy to the Foxes’ ploys, shutting down the space behind their defence to limit Vardy’s impact.

A full-blown renaissance would be a major development which could possibly unlock Vardy and accompanying Leicester assets as options.

But priced at 9.6, Vardy would remain a major investment risk given the stability and consistency now on offer from the “big four” strikers.

Christian Fuchs
A superb assist, two chances created overall and a pair of attempts on goal – Fuchs was another to roll back to his 2015/16 form, reminding us of what might have been.

Returning four assists and 15 clean sheets last term, the Austrian was a powerful asset and, like Patrick van Aanholt for Sunderland in 2015/16, always our go-to option when the fixtures lent themselves to Leicester defensive investment.

Monday’s display suggested that this could be the case again, as he powered down the flank to support his winger, with Riyad Mahrez and Marc Albrighton swapping throughout.

A King Power Stadium double-header approaches that brings both Stoke City and Sunderland over Gameweeks 30-31 and may yet see the Leicester rearguard make a late claim for consideration.

Philippe Coutinho
The Brazilian was another asset to emerge from Monday’s clash offering the suggestion of a revival.

Previously established as our preferred route into Liverpool’s midfield, Coutinho had been de-railed by an injury and then superseded by team-mates.

Sadio Mane went into Monday’s encounter acquired by more than 366,000 new owners and with 111,000+ armband backers.

But while the Senegalese huffed and puffed without effect to be replaced, along with Adam Lallana, on 66 minutes, it was left to Coutinho to drag Liverpool back into the match.

He obliged with a second-half strike that was to prove academic. However, it still marked Coutinho’s first goal and attacking points since the Gameweek 11, ending a run of eight appearances and seven starts without returns.

Perhaps more significantly, Coutinho amassed a total of six efforts on goal, three from inside the box – more than any other midfielder in Gameweek 26 and tied with Harry Kane and Christian Benteke overall.

In terms of goal threat, it equalled Coutinho’s best performances of the season – indication perhaps that another power shift in the Reds’ midfield is imminent.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Thoughts on the following Transfer plans assuming a city DGW

GW27: Alli to Sterling, Lukaku to Aguero, Phillips to Snodgrass (-4 hit)

GW28: Aguero to Lukaku, Stanislas to Siggy (-4 hit)

Would leave me with 7 players for GW28

My reason for Phillips is the poor fixtures straight after GW28, I know he may play but realistically im still looking to get rid.

nice but play 5th mid or 4th def this week. dont take a hit for Snoddy. Phillips may play GW 28. Deal with him after GW 27or even 28. King maybe than.

I think I will only captain unless he scores goals on Weds and is pretty much guaranteed to be playing both games (I.e. score a couple early, brought off after an hour)

All about form with the TC

Opposite here. If he plays an hour on Wednesday I'll be too worried about his minutes over the double to TC him. More likely to do it if he's rested.

This, if Pep rests Kun tomorrow I think there's a good chance that he'll play most of the mins in the DGW and might push me to TC
Or if he scores a hattie and gets taken off at HT 😉

      Contemplating on it myself.
If Chelsea already snatch the trophy by GW37, we may find ourselves like last year, with loads of rotation. Now that Kun is the only striker, there is no better time to use it on him.

I think Alexis will have a complete Sot'on team to play as his double up fixture, and with VvD and all back, can't see him scoring..
      Anyway, tight decision.

Sane fans, help convince me (apart from him being a little bit cheaper)!
I'm not a huge fan of Sterling but he has been looking good and delivering in recent weeks! Pep seems to love him too!!

He is surely a better player than Sterling, that I can assure you. He is pure class, just taking time to adapt to the physicality of PL.

Keeping all of Costa, Alli, Lukaku a good plan as differentials this week, when everyone seems to be selling for Man City?

Think I'm going to do Antonio > Sterling as my DGW (c) and then back to a 28 player, likely someone cheap who will become bench fodder.

Need a playing 4th defender for backup and blank gameweeks - they have decent fixtures until end of the season, though not all that confident in much more than 2 points most weeks.

Boro very much on a downward trend though, lack of attack will make it hard for the defence.

This time of year think of it as a mini-league, Hull's form much better.

            I guess so.

I've just been spoilt really as I've avoided cheap defenders all season (except Amat) and so expect something from them. I'd be less worried if I had more players for GW28, but I guess all he will be is a bench warmer most of the time anyway.

The average will be low, yes, but that doesn't mean there aren't gains to be made.

Could quite easily be a 70+ Gw if Man City tear it up.

Sometimes you just don't get put in there for some reason. I'd ask a mod to check.

You should be in at the next refresh of the HOF after you join one of the FFS minileagues. The last refresh must have been before you joined, it doesn't get done absolutely every week but it should be done again soon.

Have heard people sayinig 28 is a bad week to take hits as the average will be low, but if its hits to get a future bench fodder in who happen to play in 28 and save hits later, it effectively makes each a -2 if you expect a 2 pointer..

Think Ill be doing Sterling + Mustafi + Diomande > T.Carroll + Robertson + Carroll for -8 but gaining 3x players for 28.

Seems horribly dull, but it gives Robertson and T.Carroll to play in 28 and become bench fodder afterwards, with enough itb to fund getting Sanchez + Ibra back 29/30 without hits.

Does this make any sense or am I losing the plot?

You are about right but its still -2 if they dont get cleansheet or goal/assist.

I agree, I'll be doing Cedric to Mawson, Stan to Fraser and Aguerro/Ibra to Barnes (switching to 442). This -8 will surely get me 6 pts minimum with a good chance of more. This will free up funds to do Phillips and Brunt to Walker and Sanchez after 28. I'm all aboard for taking hits for fodders in for 28.

      Going into 29 have this
      Jaku/Pickford
      Alonso McAuley Walker Mawson Coleman
      Sanchez Mane Alli Siggy Fraser
      Lukaku Kane Barnes

The potential City DGW was announced on City twitter wasn't it? Has FPL confirmed it? Could it change and go in with other DGWs? That'd be bad.

If City beat Huddersfield in the cup tomorrow, they get a DGW in 27.

      If they don't, it's a game in 27 and a game in 28.

        Let me correct man,
If City beat Huddersfield in the cup tomorrow, they get a DGW in 27.
If they can't, it's a game in 27 and their gw 28 match will be rescheduled.

Not sure GW28 would be rescheduled if they don't get through as they will have a free weekend?!

I know but my question was has this been confirmed by FPL. I think the orginal announcement was off the back of City twitter? Doesn't seem an official way of announcing it considering it affects another club and FPL in general. I hope I'm just being paranoid.

Hello everyone, need advice on a couple of things:

    1. Do people think -8 is ok to get two City assets in this GW, or is it stretching it?
    2. Is 8-9 players enough for GW28, or should I be striving for 10 atleast?
    3. Thoughts on TC Kun?

Additionally, I think I've finally managed to get the proper options for getting in City assets, just need to finalize one (hopefully with your help):

    A. Costa + Alli + Eriksen -> Kun + Sterling + Sane
    B: Costa + Fonte + Eriksen -> Kun + Sterling/Sane + Mawson/Hull defender

I'm leaning towards B, which make my team look like this:

    Heaton (Foster)
    Coleman McAuley Mawson* (Baines Love)
    Siggy Alli Sterling/Sane* Snoddy (Fletcher)
    Ibra Kun* Kaku

What do you guys think - any advice would be welcome!
