The Stock Check – Gameweek 27 – Wednesday

Raheem Sterling is handed the night off, while Sergio Aguero disappoints as double Gameweek 27 fails to live up to the hype. A goalless draw at the Etihad means that defences prevail over the pair of fixtures as Manchester City and Stoke deliver the unexpected and bring in two clean sheets apiece.

On the Rise

Aleksandar Kolarov
While John Stones dropped to the bench this evening, Kolarov once again retained his spot in the heart of Pep Guardiola’s back-four – an eighteenth start in their last 19 league matches.

Back-to-back clean sheets over the double – City now have four in their last five – was supplemented with maximum bonus away to Sunderland to ensure that the Serbian ended double Gameweek 27 with a 15-point return, joint-top for the Etihad side.

With City set for another double further down the line, Kolarov may yet have a part to play in our seasons once the schedule turns kinder in Gameweek 32.

Lee Grant, Eric Pieters
Stoke’s budget stopper came up trumps once again to deliver 13 points for his 8.9% owners.

City’s poor performance meant that Grant needed to make just a single save on his way to earning a third clean sheet in his last four appearances.

Since being handed a first start in Gameweek 6, Grant’s average of 4.2 points per match is more than any Potters player and not far off Burnley’s Tom Heaton (4.5) between the posts.

As for Pieters, he claimed two bonus points from last night’s stalemate and has now gathered additional points in three of his last six, amassing six bonus points over that spell. Owned by 8.2%, the Dutchman is by far the most popular option in Mark Hughes’ rearguard, though his appeal is clearly limited by the Grant option.

Stoke may have a blank next weekend, but the following schedule is in their favour, with clashes against six of the bottom ten in their subsequent eight from Gameweek 29 onwards.

In Decline

Sergio Aguero
Much was expected of both City and their star striker – they had scored five in each of their last two at the Etihad and found the net in every home league match under Guardiola.

Subject to a major bandwagon for the double, Aguero convinced almost 160,000 FPL managers to wield their Triple Captain chip but ultimately managed just one goal and nine points for his pair of fixtures.

Wednesday’s blank means it’s just two goals in his last ten Gameweek appearances for Aguero, with City now sitting out Gameweek 28 prior to clashes against Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea.

Over 40,000 managers have already parted company this week and the drift towards Harry Kane – who has 12 goals in ten, by comparison – is likely to accelerate once we navigate the weekend blank.

Raheem Sterling
The second most bought player for the double Gameweek, Sterling fell victim to Guardiola’s rotation as he was handed the night off against the Potters.

To an extent, Pep had a point – Sterling had started more league matches than any team-mate prior to tonight, yet that’s no consolation for his 17.3% FPL owners, who ended the Gameweek with six points.

An assist for Aguero’s opener at Sunderland means the winger has produced points in nine of his last 11 league appearances, but in spite of that consistency, the City teamsheet served a reminder that we cannot hope to second-guess their manager.

Sterling has already been sold by 50,000+ FPL managers this week, as Guardiola’s tinkering has us thinking twice over retraining their pricey assets

Peter Crouch
A run of ten straight league starts came to an end on Wednesday after the Potters’ target man dropped to the bench to accommodate new boy Saido Berahino.

It was on the cards. Crouch had managed 90 minutes in just one of his previous four as Hughes looked to initially utilise the former West Brom man off the bench late on.

With Berahino’s match fitness now up to scratch, Crouch’s appeal as a
valid budget third striker now looks somewhat limited – with a blank Gameweek 28 preceding a clash with Chelsea, his 6% owners may look to bail soon.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Two questions:

    1) Sterling or Sane out?
    2) Firmino or Coutinho in?

Sterling most likely to drop big due to ownership, so if that is a concern....

Sterling restet, which makes me more eager to keep him

vs Burnley Coutinho seems the best option (Burnley will be deep and his shot might seal the deal)

Long term it is a coin toss between Firmino/Coutinho

I'm 70 points behind in my ML

    Foster
    Coleman - Evans - Baines
    Phillips - Mané
    Lukaku - Llorente

(Heaton, Costa, Sterling, Sané, Alonso, Pieters, de Roon)

My rival has only 4 players for gw28, so I might get off by taking a -4 hit

    Would you, and for whom?

    Thoughts are Sterling/Sané -->

    A) Lanzini
    B) King
    C) Any other sugestions?

No Siggy, I can't fit him in if I want to bring Alli & Kane in next gw

I took a -8pts to get him, now -4 to get Luka back. After considering all factors(including Ibra's -2pts), I have lost 3pts plus a poor gameweek history to deal with 😮

I had no Kun, but I didn't captain Ibra (was close though!)

So wouldn't feel too comfortable, those of us who still have TC-chip will probably play it on Kane (maybe Sanchez)

    Took a -4 to get Aguero & Ibra > Llorente & Kaku

Now I'm fielding 11 for GW28, which I didn't expect, although I want to get rid of Phillips, is he worth a -8?
    Thinking Phillips>
    A: Firmino
    B: Courtinho
    C: Barkely
    D: Wait for next week

    My team:
    Foster
    Coleman McAuley Maguire

I think lanzini has been doing this well as caroll has been out.

Once caroll is back we play differently which benefits Antonio as he is put on the wing where his points output is better. So I reckon Antonio for this reason.

bcoz he's an egg-head who thought PL is like Bundesliga or Laliga, where he can put any team against the less big team and win comfortably!

Am I gtg? Or should I take a hit to bring one more player? Stanislas plummets my plan all the way!

      Foster
      Brunt - Robertson - Baines
      Mané(c) - Phillips - Siggy - Stanislas*
      Llorente - Lukaku

Bench: Pick - Kun - Alonso - Sterling

I had a similar situation and I just took a punt on Stanislas to king for a -4!

It may or may not pay off....

      Thoughts struggling

Kun > Llorente or Sterling > Firmino

Or do both for a hit

      Jaku
      Luiz* / Brunt / Coleman
      Mane / Phillips / Sterling* / Siggy
      Lukaku / Kane* / Aguero*

Bench: Heaton, Barry, Love , Yoshida

Hopefully Coutinho won't rise in value before tomorrows presser, want to hold off just in case he picks up a knock in training, he is still only +43 on the price tracker so should be all good.

Hi all. Got 8 players playing this week. Worth getting one out for someone who is playing? Got sterling - aguero - Ibra

      Heaton/Robertson
      Baines - nyom - Mawson
      Antonio - Mane - Siggy
      Lukaku

Been a casual but had some time on my hands so participated on here over the last few months, and currently ...

      GW21 OR 2.1 million
      GW27 OR 1.4 million
      GW28 - 11 players
WC & BB to play in GW36/37

      How high an OR can I reasonably aim for? 1 million? 500K? 250k? 100k? Winner 😉 ?

Unfortunately not looking good in those either, top 4 are in top 100k.

But I have enjoyed trying to climb positions and rank over the last few months and am not disheartened at all

Good for you! If you play your WC & BB well you should make 250K easily. 100K is tough but not impossible. Good luck!

With an amazing run, you could get 100k, at level rank you have a couple of gameweeks in top 100k, and you shoot up the rankings.

        You may already know this.

If you use follow either of these links you can find out how far behind/ahead you are of certain ranks, just need to put your FPL ID in— find it by going to your Gameweek history, and then look in the search bar.

        https://www.gargatron.com/

        https://anewpla.net/fpl/report/

I would target the top 500,000 without knowing the points difference.
