The Knee Jerk – Gameweek 28

Eleven goals from the three matches – a hat-trick from a midfield differential and another double-digit return from Romelu Lukaku – with Liverpool’s attack yet to feature, Gameweek 28 looks destined to punch well above its weight.

Brought in by more than 143,000 ahead of Gameweek 28, second only to Swansea City’s Gylfi Sigurdsson among midfielders, Bournemouth’s Josh King is clearly the headline act so far.

It all started disastrously for King’s legion of new owners, with the Norwegian calmly side-footing his early spot-kick wide to register a -2 deficit.

However, he was to recover spectacularly, notching only the second hat-trick by an FPL midfielder this season, only falling short of matching Alexis Sanchez’ Gameweek 14 tally of 23-points due to his early penalty miss.

Deployed in a central striker role in recent matches, King was again played in the No 10 position behind Benik Afobe but found his route to goal nonetheless.

Incredibly, he has now produced eight goals in his last seven Gameweeks and looks an assured starter and vital source of goals for the Cherries for the remainder of the season.

The fixture list may stiffen, but King’s potential to go on providing points for a price tag of just 5.5 will surely drive an instant boom in ownership.

Already more than 10,000 have made the move ahead of the Gameweek 29 home meeting with Swansea City – only Spurs’ Harry Kane has seen more transfers since today’s 2pm deadline.

The availability such a budget midfield option, potentially playing in a striker’s role, could now raise further doubts on relying on a three-man forward line.

Southampton’s Manolo Gabbiadini will be targeted by many once he returns to action but, arguably, with such value available in midfield, there remains a strong case for the 3-5-2.

Certainly, Lukaku looks destined to remain part of our strike force, regardless of formation. He also played a key role in ensuring that the Gameweek 28 tallies will be higher than perhaps expected.

The top captain pick, with 767,000 trusting the striker with the armband, he once again proved his new reassuring level of consistency, particularly at Goodison Park.

Scoring for the fifth consecutive home outing, Lukaku produced a seventh double-figure return and, regardless of the frenzied clamour for Kane ahead of Gameweek 29, his role in our squads surely cannot be questioned.

With three of the next five at home – against Hull City, Leicester City and Burnley – Lukaku will remain locked in and will likely challenge as a captaincy contender over those matches.

While there was disappointment, with Swansea City’s Fernando Llorente failing to provide for his 378,000 new owners having limped off with a dead leg, it seems likely that Gameweek 28 could yet supply some significant scores – particularly if the Liverpool midfield can sparkle at Anfield on Sunday.

Having been flattened by the paltry returns from Manchester City’s midweek failings, Gameweek 28 has already provided unexpected fireworks with Messrs Mane, Coutinho, and perhaps Firmino, yet to take the stage to follow King’s lead.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

He's a good pick vs Southampton.

Either of the two for me. Hull are maybe more motivated because of the relegation fight since Silva took over they have improved.

I started getting flecks of grey in my hair when I was 12-13. By the time I was about 30 my hair was basically like the colour of snow. Apparently it's in my family genes as my great great grandfather in the depression went white overnight when he was a young man. The awesome thing about going gray so early in life was the ability to go into pubs & buy alcohol when I was not legally entitled to haha.

Sickened not to be owning King and seeing how this GW is going.
(Could have just gone for a simple -4 with King in for Phillips but no I wanted to be awkward.)

    - 12
Robertson/Coutinho/ Llorente in for Amat/Phillips/ Aguero.
Add in the fact that I owned Funes Mori/Brunt/Snodgrass and then the picture becomes very sour.

Had 10 players beginning this GW and even with -12 I was thinking there no way my side could fail.

Now left picking up the pieces.
Funes Mori, Brunt, Snodgrass need to go soon I think. (Hopefully Llorente is ok for more game).

      Not sure..

      Own all 3.

Funes Mori- some said tactical. Jagielka favoured which doesn't auger well.
Brunt~ who knows but you'd think they will play from now on after such a poor performance.
Snodgrass~ I thought he had been doing well and was waiting for a breakout GW..

Back to the drawing board here.

Can assume Brunt was just one of the players Pulis was taking about needing a rest. Shouldn't speak too much to his minutes going forward I wouldn't imagine.

In the case of Brunt, I believe Pulis mentioned 1-2 players needed a bit of rest and wouldn't be playing(or not starting at least). I'm sure he'll be back in the starting 11 next time out

He was at +137 at price change time. There must be something new in the algorithm to account for market volatility. Other recent examples

      - Ali not falling on a balnk GW at -137%
      - Hazard same at -117%
      - Kun and Sterling not rising during DGW
      - only 1 Sanchez drop since GW26 (blank, liv, blank)
      - Ibra still 11.5 despite a blank and the 3 game ban

It's annoying, but been happening for weeks now, so is what it is. Just need to adjust our games.

      1. Ramboros
        • 12 Years
        7 years, 1 month ago

The last few weeks have been concentrated around a few players, so every WCer ends up with the same players in/out. That leads to screwed up numbers to a greater degree than most years. It is true though that something seems to have changed regarding volatility.

Hello all. Hoping for a Pool drubbing today. Firmino, Mane and (C)outs here.

    Jaku, Grant
    Baines, Stones, Alonso, Brunt, Macguire
    Firmino, Mane, Coutinho, Siggy, Snoddy
    Kane, Lukaku, Llorente
    1FT 3.8M ITB

Any suggestions? Enough cash to do any Pool mid to Sanchez. WBA look like they don't give a damn atm. Could go Snoddy->Ali. but Saints been better lately, so not sure that's the move.

My TC chip on Kun in Gw27 was my big disadvantage to my ML rival. He then played WC chip in Gw28 to cover blanks.

Is it right that I have gained some advantage back for still having WC chip to set up team for DGW ?

Means a -4 for me shipping him. Not young anymore and probably would not be playing if we still had Oviedo. Kaku on pens now.

May be it's because they're the only ones I can afford, but I'm just so tempted with a Mata or Pedro punt this week.

    1. Eze Really?

Pedro a worry with the physical game next week. Concerned about Willian. Same story for Fab and think Mata will get a start.

Mata could be on pens for the next 2 games? Hope Mata plays the whole 90 with Ibra out but there's no trusting Jose. Mata's the first one hooked when he wants to protect a lead, which inevitably is every game.

Mata is the one I look at for a differential and Man U cover.

Mata takes penalties? Hm. Hopefully Rooney won't ruin that.

Yeah, depends on Rooney. Hoping he doesn't play.
