Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Internationals – Wednesday

England lose and Scotland draw, but it is the defeat that contains the positives as the season’s final batch of international matches gets underway.

Germany 1 England 0

What’s the difference between England and Germany? On the evidence of last night’s friendly in Dortmund, it was a 25-yard screamer from the retiring Lukas Podolski and not a lot else.

The veteran striker earned his 130th, and final, international cap and won the match with a superb goal out of nothing.

For England, employing a 3-4-3 formation to promising effect, it was scant reward for a performance of some merit – or punishment for failing to take their chances when on top in the first half.

From a Fantasy perspective, the 27.6%-owned Dele Alli brought his fine Spurs form to Germany, minus the goalscoring edge that has seen him find the net in his last three league matches.

The midfielder squandered the visitors’ best chance when put in on goal by Jamie Vardy, taking an age to consider his options and then blasting straight at German keeper Marc-Andre ter Stergen.

Adam Lallana also caught the eye. But without Alli’s end product – the Liverpool man has no goals and just one assist since Gameweek 19 – it was perhaps less surprising when his fine run from the halfway line ended with a shot coming back off the inside of the post.

Gareth Southgate marked his first match in permanent charge of England by handing a debut to Burnley’s Michael Keane as one of three centre-backs. Southampton duo Nathan Redmond and James Ward-Prowse also took their senior bows as second-half substitutes, while Jesse Lingard also calmed concerns of a knock sustained in Sunday’s win at Middlesbrough by making an appearance from the bench.

Elsewhere, Fantasy Premier League’s most popular defender, Tottenham right-back Kyle Walker (35.3%), was a key performer at wing-back for the full 90 minutes – allaying any fears surrounding his hand injury sustained in Sunday’s victory over Southampton.

The one worry for his ownership base is that he will almost certainly repeat the feat in Sunday’s World Cup qualifier at home to Lithuania, leaving him less than fresh when Spurs return to league action at Burnley on April 1.

There should be no such issues over two of Manchester City’s three most-owned assets, John Stones (16.2%) and Raheem Sterling (13.1%). The former was given five minutes of pitch time at the end of the match, while the latter was an unused substitute.

Meanwhile, City’s German winger Leroy Sane, owned by 3.3% of FPL managers, played the entire match for the Germans and forced a fine save from Joe Hart.

England XI: Hart, Keane, Smalling (Stones 85), Cahill, Walker, Dier, Livermore (Ward-Prowse 83), Bertrand (Shaw 83), Lallana (Redmond 66), Alli (Lingard 71), Vardy (Rashford 70).
Subs not used: Heaton, Forster, Clyne, Shaw, Barkley, Ward-Prowse, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Defoe, Sterling.

Scotland 1 Canada 1

The parlous state of Scottish football at the moment was writ large in the friendly at Dundee.

Canada started the match with nearly as many Premier League performers as Scotland, and the hosts then spent much of the first half trailing to their opponents, who are ranked 117th in the world.

Burnley midfielder Scott Arfield was the Canadian’s EPL representative, while Scotland boos Gordon Strachan started with West Ham’s Robert Snodgrass and West Brom’s Darren Fletcher.

Hull defender Andy Robertson boosted the Scots’ Premier League contingent when he came on for the second half of a low-key encounter, Fantasy-wise, in which Snodgrass hit the post.

Arfield later limped off with an injury, which is unlikely to create any major Fantasy repercussions other than improving Robbie Brady’s opportunity for starts should he be sidelined. Arfield has been deployed on the left flank in recent matches for the Clarets, consigning Brady to the bench.

Elsewhere, the 9.5%-owned Snodgrass and Fletcher (9.7%) are expected to start Scotland’s second match of the international break, Sunday’s World Cup qualifier against Slovenia.

Scotland XI: McGregor, Anya, Berra, Mulgrew, Wallace (Robertson 45), Burke (Bannan 45), D Fletcher, Cairney, Naismith (Rhodes 62), Snodgrass, C Martin (Griffiths 62).
Subs not used: Gordon, Robertson, S Fletcher, R Martin, McGinn, Griffiths, Bannan, Rhodes, Cooper.

    *bottomed.

I feel like I need Alli in my squad, but I'm also inclined to save the FT.

    Siggy Firmino King Mane Sterling
    Carroll Lukaku Llorente

    4.9 ITB

Saving the FT will allow me to bring Sanchez & Alli next week, or Vardy dependant on form.
If I was going to ship someone it would probably be Firmino/Mane/Sterling?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

The dilemma for Pool players continues, we want them and want to get rid of them at the same damn time.

I'll hold I think, then there could be a scouse cull if I get two blanks.
Then I'll remember they both play Bournemouth.
Then I'll be right back here again asking the same question!

            Life is good.

I'm in the same position, with Firmino and Mane, wanting to get in a spurs midfielder. I have decided to keep, I think Mane and Firmino could score as well as the spurs players over the next few game weeks. My main concern is Firmino plays for Brazil thursday, and plays everton in the early game saturday..

That is a bit of a problem, I didn't actually realise that.

Don't get rid of Firmino, He's the one I'd get from Liverpool. 3 assists 1 goal in his last four. Not sure how that warrants a transfer out.

I had Mane and Firminhio, just sold Mane he was at the optimum price to sell. I think they are equally good so Firminhio better value although Mane's high ownership scares me.

I got it last year on the Double Gameweek, think I scored around 180 something.. its the week where Sakho didnt play the first match and scored a goal in the second match.

162, TC Sanchez on the DGW34 last season.

Outside of a DGW it's 94, have done this twice... despite only 11 points from captain on one occasion last season, that was a great week. I also got 94 when captaining Aguero for his 5 goal haul last year.

      This is my second season.

I think a mixture of Championship amd league one. A bit like the French league till last year where no one can really challenge Rosenberg. Other teams are not that great.

There are no great options in 34, let's be clear.

        Valencia is probably the best.

I highly doubt Zlatan will play the Burnley game between both Europa matches and the big game with Chelsea

just making the point that he has his merits

will play 180 minutes, capable of doing something from nothing

and yes, Pools defence is appalling

Zlatan isn't going to play 8 games in 3 weeks

            surely

he'll have to be given a rest during that regardless of recent break

granted anything is possible with "loyal Jose"

two weeks ago, Firmino out for Josh King and gave him the armband over Lukaku

probably the best punt I'll ever make

sadly followed by captaining Defoe over Lukaku, which may well have been my worst...

      This season?

For me probably getting Ibra out for Lukaku before his big game. Everyone had Ibra but I knew I wanted Lukaku long term and I moved just in time.

The other one is having no Alonso all season. Allowed me Coleman and Baines which has been gold for the past 10 or so weeks.

Since that was my 1st season and didnt knew if it ever works, I did asked that question, got some encouraging responses

career would still be me bringing in and captaining Ashley Young (and owning Rooney and Van Persie) for the 7 2 against Arsenal match.

think I got something like 80 points from 3 players in a single game.

      My riskiest move isn't a brag 😆

Lukaku and Kagawa --> Chicharito and Dempsey(c)(-4) last gameweek of the season a few years back.

Lukaku got subbed on at half time and scored a hatty against United. Kagawa scored. Dempsey blanked. Chicharito grabbed a consolation goal. Still finished 3k that season so not too bad I guess 😀

WBA one centre back short now that Jonas Olsson have left.
I expect Pulis to replace him with 2 new slightly older, taller centre backs.
