Coleman Suffers Cruel Leg Break

It has been confirmed that Everton’s Seamus Coleman has suffered a broken leg playing for the Republic of Ireland against Wales in Friday’s World Cup Qualifier, following a horrific challenge by Aston Villa’s Neil Taylor.

The full-back was stretchered from the field on 72 minutes with his with the Irish physios attempting to hold his lower-right leg in position. Post-match is was confirmed that Coleman had been taken to hospital with a break.

A key Fantasy asset, Coleman is currently owned by over 851,000 (19.3%) Fantasy Premier League managers having provided a consistent stream of recent returns. The full-back has produced a goal, assist or clean sheet in nine of his last ten Gameweeks.

He will be huge loss to Everton and the Republic of Ireland and we can only wish the player a speedy recovery.

From a Fantasy perspective, his absence will likely see Everton boss Ronald Koeman turn to 20-year-old Mason Holgate, priced at 4.0, to fill the significant void at right-back.

Elsewhere, Coleman’s sales will no doubt lead to heavy investment in Manchester United’s Antonio Valencia ahead of his double Gameweek 34.

Spurs’ Kyle Walker would also become a popular target for Coleman’s current owners, along with Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand; the Saints left-back has produced four assists in his last five outings and will enjoy 11 fixtures over his final nine Gameweeks.

Regardless, tonight our thoughts are with the Everton man – a player who will undoubtedly figure in our squads as key asset on his return to the pitch.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Gutted. Looks to be a horrible injury for a player probably at the peak of his career. Can only hope for his speedy recovery.

I won't lie, one of my first thoughts was that lots of my rivals have Coleman and I don't. I do have empathy for him though, but it's just that I still think about FPL regardless.

I put a poll up on Twitter for replacements, got a bit of stick.

Its like you cant feel for the lad and consider transfers, has to be one or the other.

Surely it's better for those that find it 'disrespectful' to just move on and leave it rather than make a meal of it, dragging it on for longer than it would have if just left. And for those that can empathise as well as think about FPL then they can do that without hassle.

And what is it you are telling me to do?
Seems hypocritical to me, it's alright for you to have an opinion (about me) but not me to voice mine.
I think you may need to extend your research somewhat, I've seen many a debate on here that's not been totally fantasy football related, people on here tonight expressed emotions and feelings, maybe it's you that needs to get a grip?

You can have an opinion of course, you can do what you like of course. But you aren't Coleman and he's not dead. Perspective is needed.

I think you miss the gravity of the situation, it was a terrible tackle with a serious injury for a very honest and liked player.
I don't think you've considered others may have opinions, feelings and emotions.
if you read back on CC post-he retracted quickly as he felt bad for his comment, he didn't think initially how serious the situation was and on realisation he apoligised, I respect that.
If others want to initiate a conversation on potential transfers that's their prerogative even if I don't agree but then they like you should respect my right to speak also, what's the harm in both of us and others listening and learning from others? We don't have to agree on everything but that creates the dynamic within this community.
This injury tho it hasn't directly affected me in terms of my football playing career for club and country, living my dream, achieving my goals has touched many people last night and today and as we have done in the past we use this site to talk about such issues, debate is healthy and Seamus has raised one, I see Mark above wasn't sure even how to handle it, it's a tough situation and I will respect others opinions but I will say how I feel and I still see no reason why some 'tact' can't be applied in these type of scenarios.

"You've got the words to change a nation
                      But you're biting your tongue
You've spent a life time stuck in silence
                      Afraid you'll say something wrong
If no one ever hears it how we gonna learn your song?"

As an Irish man and a Coleman owner that was a horrible 90 mins of football that could have had 3 or 4 red cards. Kinda ironic after Keane said about hurting bale that it was Bale who could have been sent off and an Irish man that was injured.

    Bottomed on previous thread.

I experienced a similar injury to Coleman when I got run over when I was 19. If it is the compound fracture it appears to be then he will be on traction for a good while followed by an operation to pin the leg. It's a long road to recovery and there is the sad chance that he won't play again as a consequence. One of the main side problems is muscle wastage as it is likely that he won't be able to put any weight on his leg for a number of months. I have every sympathy with him and sincerely hope that it's not as bad as it looks

So how many games for Taylor? No way in hell are the standard 3 games anywhere remotely close to being sufficient.

Three games is enough. It was reckless not deliberate and you can't take into account the injury else everyone will argue bans on the basis they DIDN'T cause injury.
      Its sad but it happens.

Maybe it's time to revamp the rules then? Going in with full force without a foot planted on the ground is a potential leg breaker any day of the week. Regardless of the outcome the crime doesn't get a sufficient punishment.

        Have to disagree.

A reckless driver can be prosecuted where no-one is hurt and receive a lenient sentence.

The same driving manner leading to serious injury or death leads to much heavier sentence.

The outcome is taken into consideration.

I don't think the rules of law should apply to the rules of football. Use the rule of law when it comes to prosecuting, not cards.

I'm not taking the pee but don't compare it to death caused by dangerous driving. I feel for him but he's broken his leg playing a sport in which injury is part and parcel. Not quite the same as someone killing you in a car.
It isn't nice for him but a bit of perspective all round is needed.
            Its a broken leg.

What I was trying to get across is that if longer bans were handed out for players getting badly injured by reckless tackles, it might result in less reckless tackles.

I think the harm that reckless behaviour causes should be considered when handing out the punishment.

Just my view, others will disagree.

I know what you meant and I get the point, I just think you could get a problem in reverse.
Say Bale got sent off for what looked a worse tackle he could say why O'Shea's fine?
I love tackling and think the game is too soft as it is.
I just think people are acting like he's died and we need to get real.
Its bad for him, terrible but worse things happen in life.

He'll come through it, and even if he doesn't he's still a healthy young man. He'll be fine.

Everyone will have their own opinions.

I guess what we all share is wishing Seamus Coleman well in his recovery. I'd even be wishing someone like Joey Barton well if it was him that had his leg broke, or a disliked player from our fiercest rivals. It just seems that it happening to such a good bloke and nice player to watch makes it worse somehow.

You need to irradiate this type of tackle from the game, deliberate/intentional you got throw the book at him.

Like that lad for Bournemouth with Ibra you can't tell intention or not but he got 5 matches.... this far more severe!!!

How can you possibly say that is was intentional ? Miss timed yes , rash yes but intentional ? In a sport played at great speed where split second decisions occur these incidents unfortunately are going to happen. From Taylor's immediate reaction it was easy to see that he instantly regretted what had happened.
        Mings - difficult to say.
        Ibra - very deliberate
Taylor - badly miss timed but no intention to cause injury such as that.

I don't think it was as blatantly over the top as a lot of others I've seen. Certainly not in the 'stamp' way you sometimes see.
Obviously a leg breaker as thats precisely what it did but still didn't think it was as bad as many others, just the end result was.

Not much being said that way, I saw it live-imho it was more of a 'desperation tackle' than one with 'vile intent' I think the lad (seemingly a decent guy) will relive this tackle for some time, and that in itself brings its own punishment, anyone who knows of these things will tell you a 'sentence' would be easier to handle than how a moral conscious can hound you.

    Coleman's injury;
Forgive the rough description. I am on my phone.

The location of the break is distal. Clean break of the tibia and fibula.

Does not look like a open fracture. But it's hard to tell. There will at the minimum severe closed soft tissue injury.
Certainly it is an unstable fracture. And will need operative stabilisation.

Unfortunately, there is higher indication of delayed union with this type of fracture, but with screws and plates and the best surgeon money can buy. He should get a full union.
He is likely looking at around 5 months recovery. Then rehabilitation will be a very long process. Could be 9 months in total.

    Get well soon.

I know the dgw factor for Valencia but utd have a pretty dreadful run in of fixtures. Only 4 green ones on fpl difficulty rating. Are we getting tricked into a couple of extra 2 point returns? He's got 3 assists and a goal all season.

Wasn't meant as a brag at all, I wouldn't be where I am in FPL if it wasn't for Coleman.

Love him as a player though, genuine hard worker with a knack for being in the right place at the right time. The Premier League as a whole is much worse off without him.

Gutted, he has had a great season so far and I have really enjoyed having him in my team.
