Captain Sensible – Gameweek 34

Next up is our usual Friday evening members’ article as we take a closer look at the leading armband candidates for the upcoming round of fixtures.

To start off, we run the rule over the Captain Poll contenders, then examine the Opta numbers and Rate My Team rankings before pinpointing a differential or two to help with your armband dilemma.

The Captain Poll

Prior to being forced off against Anderlecht last night, Zlatan Ibrahimovic was the runaway leader in our previous Gameweek 34 Captain Poll for Manchester United’s upcoming pair of fixtures.

The veteran’s knee injury – with
reports suggesting he could be out for the season – forced us to reset the Poll earlier this morning, affording you another chance to assess the lay of the land.

This time around, United’s Marcus Rashford edges Middlesbrough frontman Alvaro Negredo into second spot.

Backed by 27%, Rashford’s goal and assist in the 2-1 win over the Belgians means he has now scored in three of his last four across all competitions. With the rest of United’s attackers misfiring, he’s been drafted in by over 144,00 FPL managers in the last 24 hours.

Yet his upcoming pair of hosts won’t make it easy – Burnley and Manchester City are amongst the top six sides in terms of resilient home defences, having conceded just 14 and 15 times in front of their own supporters.

United’s raiding right-back Antonio Valencia’s 3% of the votes cast. The Ecuadorian produced attacking or defensive points in eight of his last nine, though he’s started just one of the last three due to his manager’s late-season rotation.

Handed 21% of the votes, Negredo has netted twice in five fixtures under Steve Agnew and has the best pair of fixtures of any Double Gameweek frontman as the Teesside team travel to Bournemouth before hosting Sunderland in midweek.

The Cherries have conceded at least twice in seven of their last eight home matches, while David Moyes’ side have a single clean sheet on their travels all season.

By comparison, encounters with Liverpool and Spurs look tougher tasks for Christian Benteke (9%). A trip to his former employers at Anfield could still see the Belgian in profit – Jurgen Klopp’s side have injury worries at the back and have registered just one clean sheet in seven at Anfield.

At home to Spurs is far from straightforward, yet Benteke – with goals in three of the last four Gameweeks, including a ten-point tally at Stamford Bridge – has the form to prevail.

Only 3% are willing to gamble on Wilfried Zaha, while less than 1% are considering his team-mate Andros Townsend. The pair have both produced two goals and three assists in the previous six Gameweeks in a run that has seen the latter average seven points per appearance.

Golden Boot rivals Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku are rated as the best single-Gameweek prospects, earning 9% and 7% of the votes respectively.

The Spurs man has delivered double-figure hauls (20, 13, 12) in each of his last three starts ahead of a trip to Palace, while Lukaku has scored in nine successive appearances for Everton against weekend hosts West Ham.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Team is:

    Pickford, Jaku
    Baines, Mawson, Valencia, Smith, Amat
    Sanchez, Zaha, Eriksen, King, Fletcher
    Aguero, Kane, Lukaku

I have my free transfer, 0.3 itb. Worth doing anything? Bring in a double gameweek defender? Drop Aguero for a double gameweek forward?.

    Evening All,

The only way to bring Negredo & Gibson in is to take a hit and get rid of Anichebe(no braniner) & one of Alonso/Valencia. Worth it?

i have the same dilemma, but am keeping Jaku. not worth the hit. united will concede in at least one of the games and DDG doesnt tend to rack up save points. also Jaku is likely to get 6 / 7 points - Watford are safe and they are dire away.

Negredo to Gabbadini is my next transfer. I will consider replacement for Tadic. I could go Ozil and trade away Koscielny, but it leaves me benchingheadich this gameweek.

      Kane(c)?

He has a DGW where you're not earning any points in the FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea! It carries all the risks of a DGW but less returns.

                De Gea

                Alli - Sanchez - Zaha - Townsend
                Negredo - Benteke - Lukaku

Leaves me 7m in the bank.

Subs - Jakupovic, Redmond, Yoshida, 4.5m def

Zaha, Townsend and Benteke on a WC seems awfully like putting all your eggs in one basket. Yes, you'd have all the attacking options covered, but they're not all going to return.

I think your WC might be better utilised in GW36 where we'll know a lot more.

Agree but then would you play the TC chip this week on Benteke or De Gea? That's another option. Want to play the TC in a DGW to give the best option to succeed. THe option above allows me to play TC in 36 with two free transfers and keep CP assets for 35 at home to Burnley...

It doesn't seem a standout GW for the TC chip, on paper.

Only you will have looked into what's best for your squad and budget in any detail. I'd say go with your gut - if you're going to regret more not getting those players in on your WC compared with the players your losing scoring well, then you should play your WC.

Agreed. New WC draft with 1.5m in bank, enables the AoA chip in 35 with a switch from Negredo to Gabbiadini in 35, includes Hazard and Sane.

                        DE GEA (vc)
                        MONREAL - BLIND - Alonso
                        ZAHA - Sanchez - Alli - Hazard
                        BENTEKE (c) - Lukaku - NEGREDO

                        Pickford - Sane - Yoshida - Stephens

6 DGW players for 34. AOA in 35 with Negredo to Gabbi for free.

3 free transfers before BB in 37 to get rid of Gibson, Negredo + 1.

It's not just whether he gets injured. How are Spurs going to react if the game goes to extra time, or if they lose, or if Eriksen or Alli get injured. Basically there's many more scenarios for it going tits up than Spurs going into the Palace game as it stands now - fresh and no injuries.

      So Lanzini dropping tonight:

      A) Ignore and play vs Everton
      B) Bench and play Baines 4-3-3
      C) Lanzini -> King/DGW mid

      Already have Zaha and Valencia

I did Lanzini > King earlier in the week. I am playing Baines though.

Guessing you're playing both? I suppose without Carroll and Antonio they lack any real threat so could play Baines instead of Ben Davies?

Yep, I've benched Bavies for Baines, and am playing King in a 352

Thanks TS, may end up doing the same with Baines
