Dugout Discussion – Chelsea vs Southampton

The third day of Gameweek 34 action brings us to Stamford Bridge as Chelsea entertain Southampton at 7.45pm.

Both Eden Hazard and Diego Costa return to the Blues’ first XI after appearing off the bench in the weekend FA Cup win over Spurs.

The Belgian’s goal and assist in last Saturday’s 4-2 triumph continued the form that has produced points in five of his last six league outings.

Costa attempts to address a run of two goals in ten appearances – indeed, he was the second most transferred out player for Gameweek 34, with over 136,000 sending the Spain international packing.

Pedro’s owners are left frustrated as the Spaniard’s run of nine successive Gameweek starts comes to an end this evening. Willian also warms the bench despite his Wembley double, as Cesc Fabregas comes in for the hosts instead.

Southampton, meanwhile, afford us some early scouting ahead of their back-to-back Double Gameweeks 36 and 37.

Up against a defence without a clean sheet in ten Gameweeks, Manolo Gabbiadini has the chance to catch the eye as a third forward option, while attacking midfielders Dusan Tadic and James Ward-Prowse could also play their way into our wildcard plans.

Nathan Redmond’s 6% owners are given cause for concern, however, as the winger drops to the bench for Sofiane Boufal.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

What's the crack with cahill getting 0 bonus, do defenders not get many bps for scoring, and take it minus for conceding?

His bps is very low considering he scored

Biggest worry about going with saints defender(s) on wildcard is Forster. He's making at least one mistake a game

I think their low prices make them your 4th and/or 5th defenders, and fine for gw 36 and bench boost gw37. Take what you get from four games over two weeks.

Relying on Alonso attacking points is worrying, they are a bit gash at defending 😐

Yeah, tradeoffs. No clean sheets in last 11, and while a threat, it's hard to expect assists and goals on a regular basis. Chews up a lot of money, too. I lost him on wc back in gw30-ish, but it's a hiding behind the couch thing for sure.

I have no wildcard, but I've been planning my team for a bench boost in GW37 wanting every player to play twice.

I'm keeping 9 DGW players: De Gea, Stephens, Yoshida, Valencia, Bailly, Eriksen, Son, Vardy and Kane.

I'm going to get in Forster, Jesus and Hazard, meaning I'll have £18.6M left to spend on 1 defender and 2 midfielders.

In my position which three would you sign from Arsenal, Chelsea, Leicester, Man City and West Brom to replace Zaha, Chambers and Sigurdsson?

Sane and Huth are tempting options I must admit, but Jesus, Aguero, Sane, Sterling, KDB, Nolito, Silva, Navas ... there's too much risk of rotation in there really isn't there?

I think Jesus is worth getting in and I guess Sane does start more than not.

Huth did great for me last year too!

        It's Hazard or Sanchez though.

GW36 Sanchez has United (H) & Southampton (A), two very strong defensive opponents (apart from Saints at Chelsea tonight obviously), where as Hazard has Middlesborough at home.

Then GW37 and GW38 sees Chelsea with better fixtures than Arsenal, so I think Hazard wins.
