Stock Check – Gameweek 34 – Tuesday

Diego Costa delivers his biggest haul of the season as Chelsea put four past Southampton at the Bridge. Eden Hazard scores a fouth in four Gameweeks, while Marcos Alonso and Gary Cahill atone for the lack of a clean sheet with further attacking returns.

On the Rise

Eden Hazard
Reinstalled to the Chelsea first XI along with Diego Costa, the Belgian delivered yet again after firing the opener against Southampton.

Having emerged from the bench to see off Spurs with a goal and assist at Wembley, Hazard’s early strike means he has now produced points in six of his last seven league appearances.

That form has taken him above Dele Alli into second spot in the FPL midfield standings and the Blues’ schemer looks an assured target for many Wildcard rebuilding programmes.

Hazard has netted 11 times in front of his own supporters – more than any FPL midfielder – and the schedule from Gameweek 36 onwards (MID, wba & WAT, SUN) looks far too inviting to ignore.

Diego Costa
The Chelsea striker cast aside the recent malaise that brought him just two goals from the previous ten, delivering his best tally of the season and first double-figure return at Stamford Bridge.

The second most transferred-out player for Gameweek 34, Costa was shown the door by over 136,000 FPL managers, only to net twice and provide an assist in an emphatic performance against the Saints.

Hazard remains the star attraction as a route into Conte’s attack, yet Costa – sitting in 29% of squads – has the potential to damage non-owners if he can build on last night’s output.

He was the top transfer target overnight – attracting more than 8,000 new owners.

Marcos Alonso, Gary Cahill
It’s 11 league matches without a clean sheet now for Chelsea.

Yet Alonso and Cahill continue to lead the FPL defender standings thanks to their penchant for points at both ends of the pitch.

Transferred out by over 65,000 managers last week, the Spaniard teed up Cahill for the Blues’ second, taking his tally to five goals and as many assists for the season.

While Alonso remains our Chelsea defender of choice across those favourable fixtures, the Blues’ skipper – who has also now scored on five occasions – could offer a double-up option for those looking to use their Wildcard to load up on the league leaders for the run-in.

Cesc Fabregas
Surprisingly preferred on the right of the front three, Fabregas’ assist for Costa’s goal maintained a remarkable run of consistency at Stamford Bridge.

The playmaker has now produced returns in eight of Chelsea’s last nine home league matches and has been named in the first XI in each of their last four at Stamford Bridge.

Given that the Blues play at home three times – against Middlesbrough, Watford and Sunderland – in the final trio of Gameweeks, Fabregas, at just 6.9 and owned by 1%, could prove a decent, if nonetheless risky, differential.

Manolo Gabbiadini
The January signing supplied the assist for Southampton’s opener and continues to appeal as a mid-price Wildcard option ahead of their Double Gameweeks 36 and 37.

Gabbiadini now has four goals and an assist in six outings, producing points on four of those occasions. After rising quickly to 6.9, he now sits at just 6.4 and boasts only a 3% ownership.

Given that the Saints have home clashes against Hull City and Stoke City on either side of their back-to-back doubles, investment in the Italian looks set to accelerate. He was second only to Costa for transfers in overnight.

In Decline

Pedro
A run of nine straight Gameweek starts came to an end as the Spaniard dropped to the bench for the Saints’ encounter.

Pedro’s form has hardly been the most convincing – just a single assist in six before last night – but after being named as a substitute in the weekend cup win over Spurs, many expected him to return to Conte’s teamsheet.

He did at least emerge from the bench to earn an assist and may well return to the starting XI at Goodison Park this weekend. But the doubts now hovering over his pitch-time could well persuade would-be suitors to steer clear.

Nathan Redmond
Prior to last night, no outfield player had started more league matches for Southampton this season than Redmond.

Named in the Saints’ first XI in 28 of the opening 31 Gameweeks, the winger was among the subs as Puel handed Sofiane Boufal the chance to impress.

Having netted three times in six before last night, Redmond – at 5.9 – looked like offering a cheaper route into the Saints’ midfield than Dusan Tadic. Yet with James Ward-Prowse, at 5.0, starting each of the last nine, the 6%-owned Redmond could be best avoided.

Thoughts on this WC team for 36? BB in 37. 0.8M.

    Cech - Pickford
    Koscielny - Monreal - Yoshida
De Bruyne - Silva - Sane - Hazard - JWP
    Costa - Gabbi

    Pickford | Alonso, Anichebe,Rose

I would lean towards not playing both Cech and Pickford 😛

That's a massive defence. Not sure you'll get enough points for the money.
      Silva is a different move.

Rose is Spurs attack 😉 City mids seem to be better value for their fixtures. Sanchez too expensive, and no-one else in Arsenal nailed or dangerous I don't think

Rose just coming back from months-long knee injury.
Not sure KDB is 'value' but the other 2 could be.
There's Ozil & with 2 doubles think it's a mistake to avoid altogether. Defence not so appealing.

KDB better value than Ozil/Sanchez is what I'm saying. I think Ozil is droppable, rather than 100% nailed. But he's an interesting option to consider. Don't forget that by not getting Arsenal attack, I'm not automatically missing out on a double because I have other players playing 2 in week 36. Just like a GW in themselves, I don't see Arsenal attack much outprforming their defence, though I do see sexy attacking options on other teams, who have even less appealing defences/fixtures than Arsenals

Not for 36 though. How many goals you reckon city score vs cpl? Then spread G/A around your picks + Aguero, Jesus, Sterling, other = lucky/underwhelming.

I can always play Alonso (MID) and drop a City player. The average seems to be about 2 City players in people's WC squad. Just because mine are midfielders rather than 1 attack, 1 mid and 1 defence, doesn't mean the points will suddenly be shared more. If you foresee that issue for the 3 players I'm looking at, then it should stand as an issue for the players individually. I.E., Sane, de Bruyne and Silva are all poor options by themselves, along with all City attacking assets, and even defensive assets who have attacking threat built into their price (+ because City aren't any more likely to keep a clean sheet v Palace than any other team that week).

It's a bit misleading to include Aguero and Jesus as separate options to share the G/As around, since they are unlikely to share much pitch time. Sterling too may only start one of the matches. G/A most likely to be shared amongst the players who are on the pitch 😛

"If you forsee...then it should stand..." - that's not a logically consistent assumption to make. I hope to have 3 mci attackers + ars + spurs. Your distribution isn't what I'd do, but then that's the competition.

"If you forsee...then it should stand..." There is no assumption in there, so I don't really know what you're talking about. I'm just saying if the issue exists for 3 players, it must stand (continue to exist) when you treat them as individuals, and that the issue in both cases is foreseen because we don't know if it truly exists yet.

Maverick use of city's probable starting midfield.

All arsenal defense is putting more dirty eggs in the basket.

Very brave!! Full marks if you make it work.

Cheers. At least Arsenal have a DGW to cover them if their fail to cover themselves in glory. CS are always hard to predict, but if they stick to their new system, you'd have thought it would be the first thing to improve, and that it WOULD improve, rather than remain as dodgy as is.

Regardless, Cech is the best GK pick in the whole game right now. Monreal perhaps finally worth the price tag if he remains advanced. And Kos is always a solid option, and now has an extra game. Makes sense to me, especially given the lack of convincing Arsenal attacking options.

              Bottomed!!

              Draft #2... RMWCT

              RMWCT

              Cech / Pickford
              Clichy / Stephens / Yoshida / Gabriel / Holgate
              Alli / Herrera / Hazard / Sanchez / King
              Kane / Gabbiadini / Costa

              0.2m ITB

I know the defence is weak but will play 3-5-2, and they all seem to have decent fixtures, and allows me to have a strong attack. I know some may not like Herrera, but he's in form, and is hopefully a lesser rotation risk. My only concern is not having Citeh attack!!

Let me know your thoughts... thanks!!

If no WC, 2 just puts you up a blind alley in terms of future moves.

1 looks good, it really isn't a bad team at all if you do Gabbi in! Might consider Tadic -> Sane too tbh mate, don't like Saints too much, thin ka triple is too much 😀

Ugh man that sort of thinking has really burnt me this season - I had de Bruyne waaaay longer than I should have rather than getting Cout in during his purple patch cos every fixture promised a return. Missed out of 50 points probably!

So I'm trying to just bite the bullet on players like that who aren't helping my team: for example, I brought Vert in for Valencia to triple up on Spurs, but Kane's performances convinced me actually I needed him, so I could have just kept Vert for the rest of the season BUT Kane was more important to own, so I took him back out again this weekend (after getting a nice 7 from him lol) to afford Kane. Bit the bullet - hopefully he'll do the business in the NLD! Do it for the good for your team!!

                          You have convinced me.
Im going to do Tadic,Negredo > Sane,Gabbi for -4 this week.

Then I think I need Hazard in the following week so looking at Lukaku,Zaha > Afobe or Defoe + Hazard.

Thanks for that. Tadic has been stinking my team out. Watch him get a brace now. lol. stop it. Just drop him.

Lol, no worries, I know exactly the feeling - but I just think if it's your gut instinct that a player isn't sitting right, just get rid. You'll feel better about your team when you look at it. Plus Tadic will be assisting Gabbi you hope anyway, so you're still "covered". You will have to accept a trolling to some degree, but the feeling that you aren't laden with a player you dislike is better lol... I'm sure he won't go mad, I think Hull need that game more than Saints do and it'll show, but think Saints will score.

Kaku Zaha out is decent - Afobe a decent enabler I've also been looking at as a King counter, but I am in a 3-5-2 so I need Costa there to justify the formation 🙂

GL mate! Let me know how it goes!

Would you do this move instead the following week?
                                  Alonso,Zaha > 4.6m,Hazard

means I can keep Lukaku for Swansea,Watford but lose Alonso for his double.

Hmm, well I did that actually myself and got rid of Alonso, and I actually regretted it, that DGW could well be massive for him. Kaku v WAT has the potential to be an absolute smash, but I'd jst really wana get rid of Tadic from your team if I were you, and still think the original plan is a bit better.

Would you rather wait with WC and field these players:
                  1. Lukaku (CHE) Zaha (BUR) Bailly, Valencia&DDG (SWA) > -4 points
or WC and go with these:
                  2. King (sun) Sané&Clichy (mid) Yoshida (HULL) Pickford (BOU)

If Valencia doesn't play in team 1 Alonso comes off the bench. Your thoughts are very much appreciated!

He's the only player who could tempt me back to 3-4-3, at the expense of Eriksen! Costa Kane Jesus could be amazing as a front 3.

Nothing wrong with a bit of a man crush.

Even if it costs you £12.5m.

People have paid more than that for their man crushes in the past.

I do like the lack of Aguero/RvP like options in the league at the moment. I just think 12.7 sans explosive returns nor 100% nailed on status after Jesus returns makes me look at Sane/Sterling instead.

But still, you never know with him, he creates chances, could explode anytime and in a DGW with Leicester and WBA, that could really benefit the owners.

Asked this earlier, general consensus was Son > King. Just want a few more opinions, if that's ok?

How to get Cech into this team, without losing De Gea?

                    De Gea - (Jakupovic)
                    Alonso - Yoshida - Fuchs - Davies - Fabio
                    Sanchez - Zaha - Son - Sané - Coutinho
                    Costa - Gabbiadini - Kane

                    I need to find 1m.

Btw, I wouldn't do the transfer yet. I'd work towards it by doing Fabio -> Stephens then downing Zaha to Capoue or something come 36 to afford Cech.

I've already done Negredo to Gabbiadini this week. So I am looking ahead to next week, and -4 is the maximum I want to take.

Sure: I think you'll need to do what I said btw this week, probably Fabio to Stephens, so you can get Cech in for the max -4. You'll pay 4 points but you have to hope Stephens / Cech pay you back on the DGWs 🙂

FWIW I'm doing the same move, reluctantly: -4 for filler seems mad but it enables me to do Tekkers/Zaha to Costa/Sane in 36 which is a great upgrade on both!!
