Fantasy Eliteserien – Gameweek 3 Preview

After a five month long winter break the new season of Norwegian’s top flight football kicked off with a bang with two Gameweeks within a few days.

With Gameweek 3 starting on Saturday there is little respite for the clubs, and more importantly, us Fantasy managers. Gameweek 2 saw a lot of frustration as key assets were either benched or taken off early with the tight schedule in mind.

FFScout League Standings

The FFS community has shown an overwhelming interest for this fringe league, with 476 already having entered the FFScout main league (3769-1041).

On top with 135 points we find Norwegian Red (Oieiao) – perhaps fittingly – an Englishman.

In the FFScout  H2H league 16 managers have won both their matchups, with Ned Ryerson and Riski Virksomhet being joint top thanks to their superior points tally. Ned Ryerson features again on top of Phil Dagger’s Last Man Standing.

Stock Check

Ahead of looking at the risers and fallers from the two Gameweeks so far it is worth checking out Goktugerce‘s excellent statistical review of the first two Gameweeks, looking at team statistics, average positions and expected goals & assists. Meanwhile, Niemi took an in depth look at the good and bad players so far in every position.

Rising

Vegar Hedenstad (6.5) – Two clean sheets and an assist. On some set pieces.

Mike Jensen (10.5) – Two assists. Easy on the eye, which means he will be a favourite of ‘the man in the stand’. Already has 4 bonus points.

Milan Jevtovic (7.6) – A goal and an assist. A possible injury to Elbasan Rashani means Jevtovic could be nailed on going forward.

Nicklas Bendtner (12.5) – Two goals. The Dane is yet to find the groove but nonetheless has managed to find the back of the net in both games. Will score a lot of goals purely because of the sheer amount of chances Rosenborg create every game.

Sigurd Rosted (5.6) – Two goals. Not only is he a massive threat from set pieces, Sarpsborg play 4 out of their next 6 fixtures at home. Last season they kept an impressive 9 clean sheets in 15 games at home.

Patrick Mortensen (6.6) – Two goals and an assist. Sarpsborg have scored the joint most goals so far and the fixtures are favourable.

Gilbert Koomson (7.5) – Dubbed ’Siggy of Eliteserien’ by some of the FFS posters, Koomson showed some of his potential by scoring a penalty in GW2. The top assister from last season is yet to assist this campaign but that looks like a matter of time.

Bendik Bye (5.5) – Two goals and an assist. After a potential season ending injury for strike parter Ole Sveen, Bye should have done enough to nail down a permanent starting place.

Ifeanyi Matthew (6.1) – A goal and an assist. 4 bonus points already, including full points in a game his team lost.

Ibrahim Shuaibu (5.0) – Two goals and two assists. Incredible form and value.

Frederik Gytkjær (7.5) – Three goals. Mistaken for his brother who was the league’s top scorer last season, a lot of casuals have enjoyed the early investment of the younger Gytkjær.

Ohi Omoijuanfo (7.0) – Hat-trick in the first home game. 3 of the next 4 fixtures are at home.

Marco Tagbajumi (7.6) – Two goals. Going somewhat under the radar compared to his expensive strike partner Marcus Pedersen. Favourable fixtures.

Jylian Ryerson (4.5) – One goal. Listed as a cheap defender, Ryerson has played both games in an advanced midfield position. Will probably drop a bit deeper once Adegbenro is back. Ryerson is a jack of all trades and due to Viking’s extremely thin squad we could hope to see him OOP for longer parts of the season.

Falling

Ghayas Zahid (10.5) – Tipped by many to be in contention for player of the year, Zahid has nothing to show for so far. Consistent returns are vital for players with a premium price tag. Does however face the bottom team at home in GW3 so those patient enough to keep could finally be rewarded.

Mohammed Abdellaoue (9.4) – An impressive pre season was followed by an anonymous opening GW before being ruled out for GW2 with an injury. Is very injury prone.

Lars Vilsvik (6.0) – Viewed as a full back with big attacking threat, the only thing Vilsvik has produced so far is an own goal. The fixtures are however still good.

Rafik Zekhnini (8.5) & Fredrik Nordkvelle (9.0) – Although the former registered an assist after coming on as a sub, he was benched due poor work ethic in the previous match. The latter is yet to return attacking points.

Samuel Adegbenro (7.5) – After missing the first game through illness, Adegbenro returned to training ahead of GW2. But he missed the second game as well, and now await four of the toughest games Viking will play all season.

Gameweek 3 Picks

Scoring the winner in his debut game, Bård Finne (9.1) will look to continue his good home form when Vålerenga welcome the bottom team Sandefjord. With Abdellaoue being a doubt for Sunday, Finne might benefit from a central striker role.

When it comes to attempts, midfielder Ifeanyi Matthew (6.1) is second only to Bendik Bye with 4 shots per game. The Nigerian will certainly fancy his chances at home against what currently is the joint worst defence in the league.

Marco Tagbajuni (7.6) is on top for average xG (expected goals) per shot. Although a small sample size, this suggests he has so far been on the right place at the right time. Up against a shambolic Aalesund defence, the rather budget friendly striker could potentially even be trusted with the armband.

So, 1st half in the Norwegian Cup round 1 done, some fantasy-relevant extracts (sorry for repeat on some stuff):

Sarpsborg running riot has been mentioned, and we note the gold-pick before season, Diatta, has done 2 of the goals. Trondsen subbed off after 32 mins with a knock, unknown if this is serious or precausion yet.

Koomson has put one in for Sogndal.

    Ohi has scored yet again.

Grønner with a goal for Brann.

As expected we see a lot of B-sided lineups out there.

Fun fact: Strindheim coach John Pelu, most known for having played at Rosenborg, and what was an obvious dive was post-match met with a doctors-note(!) of "sudden cramps in both calfs".... yeah, we laughed too....

no probs. Yeah, it's nice to check players keeping form, and also scope next-in-line for underperforming starters.

Agdestein hat-trick for Odd, looking hot while Occean has failed to impress in Eliteserien so far, might be given a chance to take starting spot soon.

Notable score: Aalesund are down 2-0 at half-time, and that is with heavy hitters such as Mos, Kirkeskov and Berisha in the starting line-up.

Ugh, Bugge Pettersen played for Strømsgodset in the cup. That means Janukiewicz is now at risk. Hopefully he'll get a few more games at least, but I'm not sure.

I'm sorry guys, didn't expect him to return before the end of June based on the first reports.

If McDermott's out maybe time to pay up then. Difficult choice. Looking at last years' better picks for clean sheets:

RBK - great but uses a spot
                  Odd - awful away
                  Brann - 2/5cs, mixed
                  Viking - 1/5cs
                  Sogndal - 0cs

                  Perhaps:
                  1) Rossbach + rotator
                  2) Hope for advance info on Pettersen for a switch, + rotator

I'd stay away from Janukiewicz for now. I guess Bugge Pettersen is still first choice, but not 100% sure he'll get his place straight back.

Leceijewski still my preferred premium GK. Brann seems thight, but I'm not sure on the other All a bit random though. Aalesund actually seems pretty thight after that horrible start, so Lie could be worth a pick. Tromsø normally good at home I'd say, so Kongshavn might be a decent pick. Stabæk crushed them last week though.

Kristiansen could be the value pick.

                        Current (small-sample) stats:

                        Team HomeCS, AwayCS
                        -------------
                        RBK 2/3, 2/2
                        ODD 2/2, 0/3
                        MOL 1/2, 2/3
                        SIF 1/3, 0/2
                        BRA 1/2, 1/3
                        VIF 2/3, 0/2
                        S08 1/3, 0/2
                        VIK 1/3, 0/2
                        FKH 1/2, 1/3
                        SOG 0/2, 0/3
                        AAFK 0/2, 1/3
                        LSK 0/3, 0/2
                        TIL 1/3, 0/2
                        STB 2/3, 1/2
                        SAN 1/2, 0/3
                        KBK 1/2, 0/3

Only RBK & MOL (maybe STB) having any CS joy away.
At home: ODD, RBK, VIF, STB (maybe MOL, BRA, FKH).

That doesn't take save pts into account. Plus I have no real knowledge of longer-term form or expectations.

Fwiw someone on fiso posted this a while back, so your Tromsø/Brann may work well in principle.

"The following teams have perfect home/away rotation:
                          Stabaek/Haugesund
                          Viking/Kristiansund
                          Vålerenga/Odd
                          Strömsgodset/Sogndal

The following have near-perfect home/away rotation (1 game both at home, 1 game both away):
                          Lillestrom/Aalesund
                          Tromsø/Brann
                          Strömsgodset/Odd
                          Vålerenga/Sogndal"

A bit worried for Rolantsson long term. Braaten has been on fire in the last couple of matches and Vega was MOTM in the cup match. Received a lot of praise from the coach and is expected to challenge Rolantsson and Braaten for a place in the team. Pretty certain he'll start this GW, but could drop out soon if he doesn't perform. Always a chance he could go back to RW and Nouri drops out, but not sure.

On wildcard and have a couple of questions 🙂

                      1) Best keeper combo? Considering Leciejewski/Hansen/Kristiansen + cheap (Dyngeland/Lie?)

                      2) Haugesund have decent fixtures and I have trouble finding 5 mids with appealing form/fixtures. Huseklepp an option?

                      3) Sarpsborg have RBK at home and Stromsgodset away in the next two. Worth waiting to get one of their attackers and instead chose Ohi and Sigurdarson + Mos/Shuaibu?

                      4) Brann's fixtures: VIK rbi MOL. Braaten has been really good lately but maybe wait a couple of matches to get a Brann attacker?

                      5) Rosenborg: Helland + two defenders/keeper look like the best option to me. Thoughts?

                        1) the gk from Viking (they rotate well)
                        2)no
3)yes, pick any 2 of those!
4)I would avoid Brann for a few week until they fixtures improve
                        5) it has been working so far. Once they start benching bendtner, they might score more though!

Would anyone with a bit more of the league knowledge be interested in compiling a season ticker. I'm doing OK but stabbing in the dark for working out good fixtures? No Elite knowledge what so ever.

Which is better on WC ??

                        A- Kompany - özil- Costa
                        B- Stephens - Sanchez -Jesus

I would avoid injury prone players like Kompany because a lot of teams play on artificial turf.

                        WC:
                        Hansen Janu
                        Wangberg Gregerson Skjonsberg Rolantsson Ryerson

Janu, Rolantsson = Possible rotation risk
Kastrati a little left field but could be a worthy punt
Lund Nielsen not the most proven Sarpsborg attacking player. Would go with Lindberg, Mortensen, Trondsen, Fejzhallu from them.
I'm not overly qualified to talk about this though 🙂

Expected lineups from VG+. Not necessairly accurate, but take injuries and other info into account.

Brann (4-3-3): Leciejewski - Nouri, Wormgoor, Acosta, Kristiansen - Haugen, Heltne Nilsen, Barmen - Braaten, Børven, Rólantsson.

Viking (4-2-3-1): Austbø - Kronberg, Ledger, Mets, Haugen - Ryerson, Danielsen - Bytyqi, Ernemann, Adegbenro - Bringaker.
(Appiah over Bringaker if injury free)

Kristiansund (4-4-2): Månsson - Coly, D. Ulvestad, Hopmark, Gjesdal - Rønningen, Qaka, P. Ulvestad, Kalludra - Bamba, Stokke.
(Bamba could be back already. McDermott very doubtful)

Strømsgodset (4-4-2): Janukiewicz - Vilsvik, Glesnes, Høibråten, Parr - Jradi, Tokstad, Júnior, Nguen - Tagbajumi, Pedersen.
(Janukiewicz expected to start, but Bugge Pettersen is back so who knows)

Sandefjord (3-4-2-1): Jónsson - Kane, Reppesgård, Seck - Kebbie, Storbæk, Kurtovic, Solberg - Sødlund, Morer - Kastrati.

Molde (4-4-2): Linde - Strand, Gregersen, Toivio, Gabrielsen - Hestad, Aursnes, Sarr, S. Svendsen - Sigurdarson, Brustad.

Sogndal (4-4-2): Dyngeland - Skaasheim, Utvik, Psyché, Grodås - Koomson, Birkelund, Schulze, Nwakali - Bye, Furebotn.
(Note: Furebotn 5.0 midfielder, but only playing up front due to injuries)

Lillestrøm (4-4-2): Origi - Melgalvis, Amundsen, Kippe, Mikalsen - Knudtzon, Krogstad, Mathew, Rafn - Malec, Ajeti.

Stabæk (4-2-3-1): Sayouba - Skogseid, Skjønsberg, Hanche-Olsen, Moe - Vetlesen, Lumanza - Brochmann, Kassi, Njie - Omoijuanfo.

Haugesund (4-4-2): Bråtveit - Haraldseid, Knudsen, Skjerve, Stølås - Leite, Kiss, Hajradinovic, Abdi - Ibrahim, Gytkjær.
                        (Hajradinovic and Skjerve a doubt)

Aalesund (4-4-2): A. Lie - Arnarson, Ramsteijn, Grétarsson, Kirkeskov - Gyasi, Riise, Carlsen, Fet - Veldwijk, Abdellaoue.
                        (Gyasi and Thrandarson a doubt)

Tromsø (4-4-1-1): Kongshavn - Ødegaard, Wangberg, Jenssen, Antonsen - Ingebrigtsen, Johansen, Pedersen, Sigurdarson - Åsen - Lehne Olsen.

Odd (4-3-3): Rossbach - Ruud, Semb, Hagen, Grøgaard - Samuelsen, Jensen, Nordkvelle - Diouf, Agdestein, Riski.
(Occean doubtful, Agdestein likely to start after midweek hat-trick)

Vålerenga (4-2-3-1): Sandberg - Lundström, Tollås, Jääger, Juklerød - Grindheim, Lekven - Finne, Zahid, Keita - Johansen.

Sarpsborg (4-4-2): Kristiansen - Toivomäki, Jørgensen, Rosted, Thomassen - Halvorsen, Nielsen, Zachariassen, Trondsen - Mortensen, Lindberg.
(Not sure if Albech is dropped/injured again (not mentioned), but I suspected it's lazy journalism putting Toivomäki in there over Albech).

Rosenborg (4-3-3): Hansen - Hedenstad, Reginiussen, Skjelvik, Meling - Jensen, Konradsen, Midtsjø - Helland, Bendtner, Jevtovic.
(They expect Hedenstad to play, but not 100%)

                          Who to get out?

                          A) A. Sigurdarson
                          B) Matthew

                          Who to get in?
                          1. Jensen
                          2. Helland (is there a threat of rotation when fixtures congest?)
                          3. Svendsen

                          Other attackers are:

We have similar line ups 🙂 Honestly between the two of them it's tight, I would check fixtures for it. Probably Svendsen for now, but would look to bring in Jensen/Helland ASAP.

If I had your team, I would be wildcarding now to be honest.

I would get rid of tagbajumi, koomson, midtsjo, valles, A.sigurdason & matthew.

Then you can get your 3 mids above: Jensen helland and svendsen!

A3 - Sigurdason looks dangerous and Molde is looking good offensive

Fell 550 places in last gw so I am 901st now.

Considered using WC for this GW, but got Omo and Moe for -4.

Really struggling with wc keepers. Rotation picks vs. form just don't match up.

                                  1) Agdestein too risky a pick? (considering Shuaibu/Mortensen > Agdestein/Lindberg).

                                  2) Midtsjo worth the 0.5m over Jevtovic - Rashani anywhere near recovery?

Wouldn't get Agdestein on a WC. Not nailed atm.

Jevtovic out of those two. I think I'll be going him and Helland.

Saving my FT and going 3-5-2 this week. Tagbajumi (K). Last chance for Koomson, then Adegbenro will come in for him.
