The ScoutCast – Episode 226 – Beached

Excess baggage checked in, deckchairs reserved and sun block applied – the Scoutcast team are all ready to hit the beach.

Smack in the middle of Gameweek 37, with points flowing from all angles, not even Hal Robson Kanu’s late goal can upset the pre-vacation mood.

Stringing five men across the midfield, Luke and Az join Jonty, Andy and myself for a bumper end of season episode as we tackle another volley of questions from you, the community.

We conduct a post-mortem on the flurry of chips, weigh up the Gameweek 38 punts, put together our final day Wildcard XI and take a look back on our own personal highs and lows of a topsy-turvy season.

After 128 minutes of that lot and sunstroke already setting in, we even forget to chat captains and transfers come the end, only to make amends later.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday night. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

    What u reckon is better
Coutinho + JWP or Sturridge & Lallana -4

I really think Sturridge might tear Boro apart

Can't believe I'm actually not using a transfer last week of the season..
Bench of Stephens, Holgate, Anichebe - not much in the price range worth using it on?

No Liveprool cover anywhere, but not sure where I'd fit them in

Guys massive last GW coming up for me, i was 61 points ahead before my main rival TC'd Kane + Son to move within one point! He has bench boost left but not the strongest squad and i have Triple Captain. Advice please, i am thinking King & Lukaku to Lallana $ Sturridge and TC on Kane, Jesus or Sanchez.

    Caballero
    Alonso - Bertrand - Davies
    Sanchez - Ali - Sane - King*
    Jesus - Kane - Lukaku*

    Pickford - Stephens - Colgate - Carroll

    His Squad -

    Cech - Jaku
    Davies - Stephens - Holding - Holgate - Tarkowski
    Sanchez - Son - Hazard - King - Carroll
    Jesus - Kane - Costa

Going to jump in on this while I have the chance. One addition that I have personally thought would be useful is the ability to look back at the history of my previous seasons including the option to view individual GWs. Seeing the OR rank for each year is useful, though it doesn't tell me what team I started with in GW1 of 13/14 or how much points Payet (TC) got me in GW37 last season. Having more continuity from season to season would make the game much more complete in my view. This is especially important with the price changes from year to year and various position changes.

I think it should be easier to join leagues and contact other players through the site. For instance, could the site add a search feature akin to the HoF search on here? I would like to look at my friend's team without him having to link his team through another platform.

In terms of how the game itself plays, I think it fares quite well and has improved steadily over the years. I used to think the AoA was dreadful, but there have been several occasions where I felt I could have used it.

Less baps for already scoring actions (goals etc), more baps for no scoring actions.

Would help compress the pack, rather than continuing to make it a pool of only 50-75 players to pick from....

Yeah 1 needs done for sure!

I think they should have more points for defensive mids. Guys like kante/matic/dembele etc. are class players but almost useless in this game.

This one they could even schedule the changes and provide notice. So on Friday night player X will rise 0.2. No need to rush early transfers then and the market becomes predictable.

      2. Anathallo
        • 14 Years
        6 years, 10 months ago

Someone commented here the other day about having 'defensive players' as opposed to the classification of defenders. I think that's a really good idea. Although it's not that 'clean', I think it would bring loads of players into the game. For instance, if Kante, Dembele were brought in as defensive players and scored 4pts for a clean sheet like a defender they would become 'live' rather than just ignored. Of course they would have to be priced appropriately (6.5-7m perhaps?) but it would offer loads more choice, in terms of players and formation...

        1. Pasqualinho
          • 14 Years

I like this. No change to the current structure and a larger pool of players in the 'Alonso' bracket. My favourite post of the day.

I can't do emojis but if I could it would a blushing one... I think not changing the simple structure is really important in all potential new ideas.

Not sure there needs to be huge shake ups but I'd like to see some changes:

      1. I wonder if this was a freak season when it comes to price changes. I hope FPL have some good back end data to see if it was through more active players or not. If so the algorithm might need changing

      2. I don't want the chips binned but I want to see them mirrored like wildcards so you can use one in first half of season and one in second

      3. Not sure what hugely needs changing here. What did you have in mind?

      4. Some need to change I think. Firmino, Milner to name a couple.

Like the idea of (2), provides incentive to take a risk with the chip rather than hoarding till GW37 each season.

          • 14 Years
          6 years, 10 months ago

I don't like them solely because they destroy H2Hs - particularly in GW37 which can be a semi-final, depending on how your H2H league is set up. If there was a way to provide the non-chip scores for H2H matches then I would be happier with them.

      3. Anathallo
        • 14 Years

        1. I like the price changes - although they've been really active I think it's also helped to make the game more interesting. Cheaper priced players are not affordable enablers for everyone. Quicker rises for the likes of Kane, Alli, Mahrez etc in previous seasons would have made the game much harder and more interesting. It also gives an extra element to think about. I know it can be frustrating, but I think it creates a positive dynamic. Having to choose between sucking up value loss or chasing money has been a good challenge - and people doing both strategies have been burned at different times...

        2. Good idea.

        3. I like the scoring but make a suggestion below about defensive players instead of defenders...

        4. There's always a few every season, this feels pretty standard.

Overall I think tweaks rather than revolutions is the way to go. It's a hugely popular game for a reason, and big changes risk ruining it IMO.

If scoring goals in a losing game can get u points, keeping a 45 min cs should also fetch you 2 points. 2 points per half is better than a lumpsum 4 per 60 mins

G2G? Think am doing Hazard > Coutinho for a FT

    Willy (Pickford)
    Alonso Davies Monreal Yoshida (Gibbs)
    Sanchez Coutinho King Sane (JWP)
    Kane Jesus (Gabbi)

Thinking about making a couple of changes!

    Stones >> Lovren
    Bailly >> Matip

    Team would be...

    Mignolet
    Matip Cahill Luiz Lovren
    Sane Alli Eriksen
    Costa Kane (c) Jesus

    DeGea, Holgate, Xhaka, Herrera

    What do you reckon? Cheers!

Solid advice mate cheers! Only thing is my best friend that i'm battling with knows Coutinho is my favourite player and will expect me to do that. My logic with Matip & Lovren is nobody will see it coming. Will that move get me enough points compared to bringing Phil in though? That is the question hmmmmmm.

    Squad

    Caballero Cech
    Stephens Alonso Yoshida Holding Davies
    Hazard Ozil Sterling Sane Albrighton
    Costa Gabbiadini Kane

    £0.1 ITB
    All out attack to play.

Cash mini league tight above and below,
26 pts behind and 24 ahead.

2 questions - how much do I gamble with hots and AOA?
Person ahead has bench boost left and his diffs are Jesus and Alli compared to my squad. I have Ozil and Sterling as mine.

    1) Play it safe - hits could decide it - Gab ---> Origi. +/- AOA
    2) Blow the lid off - its only money (and a lot of pride)
    Sane -> Coutinio,
    Haz -> Wijnaldum
    Gab---> Origi
    Costa---> Jesus
    for -12pts +/- AOA.

    Thanks

        Morning all!

Have 2 FTs for the final week - what are your thoughts on:

Hazard & Anichebe out for either:
        A) Coutinho & Llorente
        B) Coutinho & Vokes

        Cheers!

Smooth: 176pts, highest total ever and opened up leads of roughly 100 in MLs, some of which I was behind in two weeks ago, captaining Sanchez and owning Kane & Jesus

Rough: Going Vertonghen & Holding over Davies & Monreal, going Eriksen over Alli, not going KDB over Hazard (who I originally sold Sigurdsson for), getting Gabbiadini in for Llorente in GW35 and missing all Llorente's recent returns, Spurs and City defence not keeping a clean sheet

Anyone know the official Brighton & Hove Albion FC twitter page?

Doesn't look like they've got one.

I've got 34 pts to make up in my cash mini league to come top - do-able, or a bridge too far? I'm thinking the latter...

Very unlikely, but if you nail the best captain and few other luck factors. Are your teams very similar?

My thinking too. Somewhat similar teams, so have to hope the differentials nail it.
