FanDuel Focus – Gameweek 38

It’s time for our final FanDuel article of the season as we visit our partner game to consider the various contests on offer and also propose an XI for the last day of the campaign.

There’s only one window to enter teams, with all ten fixtures running simultaneously on Sunday. The deadline is at the 3pm kick-offs.

To add a little last-day spice, we’ve also set up a ‘Beat the Scout’ contest for the window, giving you the chance to take on a combined Mark and Jonty XI for a shot at £50 in cash.

The contest is for FanDuel newcomers and veterans alike. For FanDuel first-timers, simply register and deposit funds and you can have a crack at besting Mark and Jonty’s combined team. Vets, meanwhile, just need to follow the link and sort out their Scout-busting team.

Everyone who surpasses Mark and Jonty’s score will be entered into a draw to win £50 in cash – that’s cash, not credit.

For newcomers to FanDuel, check out our pre-season strategy guide, which provides some hints on which types of players to target.

My Strongest XI

Joel Pereira (£4m)

John Terry (£7.4m)

Adrian Mariappa (£7.8m)

Callum Chambers (£8.5m)

Scott McTominay (£5m)

Luka Milivojevic (£7.8m)

Cesc Fabregas (£11.5m)

Mesut Ozil (£12.6m)

Daniel Sturridge (£10.2m)

Gabriel Jesus (£11.8m)

Harry Kane (£13.4m)

The Key Picks

We couldn’t overlook Manchester United’s third-choice keeper Joel Pereira following Jose Mourinho’s strong hint that the youngster is set to for his debut against Crystal Palace. The young Portuguese’s bargain price-tag alone makes him a tempting pick, but he should also pick up a few saves as he attempts to deny Christian Benteke. Furthermore, a clean sheet can’t be ruled out – United have conceded 12 goals in 18 matches at Old Trafford. Only Spurs have a better defensive record at home (9 goals from 19).

John Terry notched the opener at Watford for Chelsea – reminding us of his goal threat and helping him score an impressive 29.25 FanDuel points with 5 CBIs also registered. We’re expecting the centre-back to turn in a similar performance as the champions host Sunderland in a match set to be his last for the club. He’ll likely be pinpointed at set-pieces to deliver a parting goal and, promisingly, the Black Cats have conceded the most headed attempts (60 in 18) on road trips this term.

The Watford back-line has been hit by a host of injuries as they welcome an in-form Manchester City attack to Vicarage Road. Adrian Mariappa is all but guaranteed to face the onslaught and should be busy picking up defensive FanDuel points on Sunday. The centre-back’s 67 clearances, blocks and interceptions (CBIs) and 18 tackles have produced a healthy 20-point average over his last six outings.

We’ve spent big on our third and final defender. Middlesbrough are in store for a tough afternoon at Liverpool with the home side knowing a win will confirm Champions League football next season. Calum Chambers is our pick from the Boro defence – he’s averaged over 10 CBIs and just under three tackles per match this campaign to accrue a 20.8 FanDuel point average.

Similar to our keeper, our first midfielder mainly makes the line-up as a Jose Mourinho budget buy. We don’t have much to go on for Man United’s Scott McTominay, although he did pick up an encouraging 8.25 FanDuel points in under ten minutes when he made a late cameo against Arsenal in Gameweek 36. At a cut-price 5m, the central midfielder acts as an ideal enabler to fit in big-hitters elsewhere.

Our next selection’s end-to-end role suits the FanDuel scoring matrix. Crystal Palace’s Luka Milivojevic netted a penalty to score 28.75 points in the 4-0 victory over Hull City last time out. The Serb has recorded 28 CBIs and 15 tackles over the last six matches to highlight his combativeness. He’s also drawn nine fouls over that period and spot-kick duties underline his threat going forward. An 18-point average over those six fixtures, and a reasonable price, should make him a worthwhile pick at Old Trafford.

Cesc Fabregas arrived from the bench against Watford to score the goal that ensured another win for Antonio Conte’s outfit. Considering he was rested for most of the encounter, it means the Spaniard looks an assured starter for their closing match with Sunderland and his recent influence promises more returns. The Blues midfielder has now tallied five assists and a pair of goals in his last seven starts, while a 41-point average in his previous six home appearances indicates he’s a sound pick in FanDuel against the basement dwellers.

Although we would have liked to fit in Alexis Sanchez as our Arsenal weapon of choice against Everton, Mesut Ozil’s performance last time out in the win over the Black Cats has convinced us to go for the midfielder. The German created 12 chances in the 2-0 win over David Moyes’ side to provide an assist and a 49.75-point FanDuel haul – enough to exceeded Sanchez’s 41.75 points despite the latter’s brace. Three goals and four assists in ten matches for Ozil demonstrates his improved output over the run-in and his creativity could be key to penetrating a stubborn Toffees rearguard in a must-win match for the Gunners.

It’s sensible to pick a differential or two in a FanDuel line-up and we’ve gone for Daniel Sturridge here. The Liverpool forward flourished and scored as part of a front two positioned ahead of a diamond formation against Southampton. He should have plenty of opportunities to net again – the Reds will throw waves of attacks at visitors Boro and the relegated side have conceded 11 goals in their last three away trips.

Gabriel Jesus continues to indicate he has a bright future under Pep Guardiola. A goal and assist in the 3-1 West Brom victory reflected his combined goal threat and playmaking skills. The Brazilian has notched six goals and served up three assists in seven Man City starts, averaging 35 FanDuel points per match. That makes him difficult to ignore for the trip to Watford – the Hornets have leaked eight goals in three outings.

Romelu Lukaku was leading the race for the Golden Boot, but after Harry Kane’s four-goal display at Leicester City the Spurs frontman has made his move. He’ll be keen to further the gap as Spurs roll up to Hull. The Tigers have only two clean sheets (conceding 28 goals in 18 matches) at the KCOM Stadium this term while the England forward now has 12 goals and four assists in eight starts. Over the last four weeks, Kane’s 24 goal attempts and 14 shots on target suggest his irrepressible form will continue to the season’s final whistle.

This Week’s Contests

The largest pot this weekend is again the Fan Favourite, which has £2500 in prize money and is £5 per entry. The top 120 placed line-ups will collect winnings, with £500 for first spot.

There’s the third round of the Combo Free Play this week, which allows you to try out FanDuel without risking any money. A total of £50 of prizes are available for those who have made their first deposit.

Finally, remember that you can go head-to-head against a line-up picked by Mark and Jonty. There’s another £50 on offer here and the chance to prove your selection skills against the Scouts comes free of charge.

You can register for a free account at FanDuel and enter the tournament via this link.

Grav update in dedication to Chelsea and Conte. Classy manager and classy club who havent 'bought' the title like most clubs tried to do this year and failed.

Yeah, Chelsea's prolonged success was certainly built on patience and not high levels of spending.....

Just the £1,115,259,000 spent since Abram took over.

Conte is a tactical genius though, tbf.

Hey mate - they do tend to hop back and forth from their countries a lot if they've been given a midweek break, I wouldn't worry too much about it! How did everything end up your end with the DGW? Did you have Kane?

Cheers buddy - yeah it went pretty well. I had Kane, Alli and Vert last night, so ended with 160. Gabb's and Huth's zeros, Holgate's 1, and the general failure of the week's transfers were a little disappointing though.

        How about you?

Cool! I had Eriksen and needed him to perform to win our league's £20 top overall score - literally if he'd gotten 2 points I'd have split the pot, 3 and I'd have won it. As it was, the no-show meant I lost out by 2 points. But I can't complain too much, got 181(-8), which is a new PB (last time out was 168 in DGW34, think I mentioned the other day).

Up to 2nd in my ML from 4th, when the gap was 60-70 points just 2 weeks ago - previous 2nd forgot to change team (but did have Sanchez (c)) which has let me in.. now in 2nd by ONE POINT so it's all on the final day for whether I finish with £20 from 3rd or £40 from 2nd, with 1st out of sight... I have smashed my cousin into 4th and out of the money, who has been giving me serious bants all season, and am near-as-anything guaranteed to finish above him now (67pt gap), which was the main objective 😀

You still looking at the Fab move? I was planning to do Eriksen -> Cout anyway so last night saw my transfer happen in pretty short order! Not taking the -4 now it's so close.

That's a wonderful total! Fantastic work. And it's always great to beat the ones who give lip/bants 😀 That's unfortunate about Eriksen - I didn't expect his no show; I'm not sure anyone did.

I'm toying with two atm - Hazard and Gabb out for: Coutinho and Llorente or Fabregas and Sturridge/Vardy. I really don't think Hazard will start and I'm willing to take the risk that he won't.

Thanks mate. Yeah exactly, big relief!

I'm actually thinking Haz will start, I have said a few times (maybe naively cos I have him in my team and won't be removing) that he's had 6 days' rest before this game and will have 7 more before the cup final... in most situations dropping Haz before SUN H is madness. His appearance history suggests he will start... but obviously no-one can know 😀

If you're willing to take the risk I'd go for it definitely.

I'm not sure he will start as a striker 😀 But he might get 5 minutes up front at the end.

I understand the reticence with Chelsea players - Conte could put out a pretty strong team, or play some younger players again. I'm inclined to say, though, that Costa, Fabregas, Courtois and a couple of defenders will come in, and a few of the younger players and Hazard will drop out.

What is the correct order to make way for at least one of Coutinho/Lallana/Siggy (depending on the ML leader transfers)

    A- Sane
    B- King
    C- Hazard

My other mids, Eriksen (differential for me) and Sanchez (simply essential), are non-transferable by the way.

Guys need suggestions to block my ML rival and preserve the lead.
I have 2 FT vs 1 of his.

    Our current front 8..

    Mine;
    Sanchez King Hazard Alli Sane
    Kane Jesus (Barnes)

    His;
    Sanchez King Hazard Eriksen Cesc
    Kane Rashford Llorente

I assume he will get in Couti and may play Llor benching Rash..

I am almost certain about doing Haz to Couti before tonights price changes..
Unsure about the second FT. I am thinkin about the following moves to block him..

    A) Alli to Eriksen
    B) Alli to Cesc
    C) Barnes to Llorente (this would mean benching Sane)

Any thoughts on above moves / any other suggestion?

I don't think it will make much difference tbh. Some teams will want a win for one reason or another (league placing/pride), others will want to give a few youngsters a go (What better time to give them Premier League experience?). It will be dependent on the context I think, not really whether it's home or away.

I expect the greatest rotation will in fact be at Old Trafford and the Bridge.

I was excluding obvious rotations. I think the fans and the players like to wave goodbye for the season for those who have been a mainstay in their sides.

Yeah, I think players from those teams playing home games won't be rested (exception Man Utd) and those playing away have a good chance of being rotated.

Sure, with reliable bench warmers because we won't get it 100% right. I personally think Alli will be rested.

More likely. For me there was no logic in Hazard playing against Watford away only to be rested at home where he does well. The timing/fixture choice is all wrong unless he plans to play Hazard in both matches.

Yeah: No logic whatsoever. The irony is Hazard has failed to perform recently too.

    Repost:

I have Alli, Eriksen & Kane but I don't think Alli will start/ limited minutes.
    So:
Alli > Firmino/Silva/Yaya (can't get De Bruyne because Jesus & Cab)
    or
    Gabbi > Giroud/Vokes (bench Alli)

    Any other suggestions?

Hi to win my ML I need to outscore the leader by 41 points...
The good news is that my rival has not been touching his team for long time (lol)
As his team is not that good I think it is doable 🙂

    Rival team:

    Heaton
    Walker - Blind - Bellerin
    Sanchez(c) - KDB - Walcott - Davis
    Negredo - Lukaku - Defoe

    Jaku - Vertonghen - Holebas - Fletcher

    My team

    Caballero
    Alonso - Monreal - Stephens
    Sanchez - KDB - Eriksen - Alli
    Costa - Jesus - Kane

    Jaku - Holgate - Belanuane - King

    1 FT 0.3 itb

I am thinking to do KDB to Coutinho (c) cause I need to get different players if I want to beat him...

What other moves would you suggest?

Can somebody help me with a sensible move?

    1 FT & 0.0 ITB

    de Gea
    Alonso, Yoshida, B. Davies
    De Bruyne, Sanchez, King, Fabregas
    Costa, Kane, Gabbi

Is De Bruyne > Coutinho a pointless move? Should I use my FT elsewhere?

Trouble is the Gabbi replacements are not at all nailed...

Pick 1 to sell for Coutinho

    A) Hazard
    B) Alli

Alli 100%, not been as good lately

Eriksen just got rested for the entire last game, guaranteed a start and I would have thought Alli may be rested this game

I wish my team was as easy as this decision!!

I'm thinking Alli now. I'm scared of Hazard at home having a riot...

Would prefer to have Coutinho vs Alli.

Hazard not likely to play? I've read a lot of comments here saying he will be rested, but perhaps Conte wants to field a strong XI for their final home game? I'm undecided whether I should transfer Haz out for Coutinho or Gabbiadini for Llorente. May end up doing both for -4

If you play AOA chip and one of your front 8 doesn't play, do you still get a defender sub on and AOA no longer applies?
