FFS Cup

The FFS Cups – Finals

The final Gameweek of the season sees the conclusion of our two Premier League cup competitions. Here we reveal who has made it through the finals as well as the managers competing in the third place play-off matches.

K3lviN took giant killing to new levels to book his seat in our open to all cup final, after seeing off 134 ranked Live Hall of Fame top ten manager My Pretty Pony (aka Peter Kouewenberg). This 80,381 ranked manager’s sensational score of 199 proved too much for Peter’s 180 return in Gameweek 37.

He will meet another Goliath in the final after 740 ranked Sleepysi defeated Choppers13 in his semi-final.

Of the pair K3lviN has the experience of pressure, having finished 2012/13 second in the overall rankings. Sleepysi’s top 10,000 ranking in 2013/14 also means he is no stranger to impressive end of season runs.

In terms of key differentials, Sleepysi has Spurs’ Christian Eriksen, who should start away to Hull City on Sunday after was rested against Leicester City last night. He will also be hoping for an Arsenal clean sheet, at home to Everton, with Petr Cech expected to be fielded by Sleepysi alongside Nacho Monreal, who is owned by both.

For K3lviN he has Southampton’s Nathan Redmond, Leroy Sane of Manchester City and Spurs full-back Ben Davies as his main differentials.

Chelsea’s teamsheet could prove decisive, with Sleepysi stocked up with Eden Hazard, Marcos Alonso and Pedro, while his opponent has Cesar Azpilicueta as well as the Blues’ Belgian schemer.

With two free transfers to play it remains to be seen whether they will make dramatic changes. Philippe Coutinho may be one key target ahead of Liverpool’s home clash with Middlesbrough. The Brazilian could also offer a strong differential armband option.

With a £200 Amazon voucher to the winner and £100 to the runner-up, risks may need to be taken.

There’s a £50 voucher up for grabs for the winner of Choppers13 and My Pretty Pony’s third place play off.

In the Members Cup aspern goes through the final by the closest of margins, with his 2890 rank proving the difference after both he and his 4120 placed semi-final opponent Dynamic scored 175.

He will meet 8122 ranked Malaikat Jahad, who had a far easier semi-final, seeing off Barwood 196-171.

Of the Members Cup’s two finalists, Malaikat is the more seasoned veteran, with two top 10,000 finishes in his previous nine seasons. In contrast, aspern is in his third campaign and has yet to finish in the top 100,000.

Both only have one transfer to play and aspern may be tempted to use it to ditch Southampton’s misfiring striker Manolo Gabbiadini, who netted zero points in double Gameweek 37 after a no-show and missed penalty. Aspern’s key differentials include Chelsea’s Eden Hazard, Eriksen, Bournemouth’s in-form midfielder Josh King and Leicester City’s Marc Albrighton.

For Malaikat he will be hoping his differentials Chelsea’s Cesc Fabregas, Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne and Tottenham duo Heung-Min Son, and Dele Alli will be more than a match.

As with our open to all contest, the winner of this final will scoop a £200 Amazon voucher, with £100 going to the runner up.

A £50 voucher is available to the winner of Barwood and Dynamic’s play off.

Good luck to all those involved and if you would like more information on the schedule and prizes click this link.

Yeah I rolled the dice and got rid of another mid who could also haul for Cout. Haz becoming a diff at home to Sun is something I like as behind in ML. If he gets no minutes so be it I still failed 🙂

Haha yeah fair enough. I've got all my money tied up in KDB, Sanchez, Hazard and Kane. One will have to go for Cout. Don't really want to take a hit, nor do I really want to get rid of any of them... maybe I could change Pedro to someone instead...argh going insane.

    Thought in formations people.
I think this year was so obvious for a 352, and results have proven it.
It was obvious why? The amount of mid priced midfield value as opposed to the lack thereof up front.
However lesson learn going for Sanchez Hazard KDB Mane Alli is a recipe for disaster as it leaves the front 2 too light.

I think next year there will be more wing backs and the points per million value might go to the back, this was alluded to on the scoutcast.
442 or a crazy 451 seems pretty maverick - maybe too much so?

      • 14 Years

I have never subscribed to the theory of a 'best' formation. It can change from week to week. I prefer having a balanced and flexible squad and an open mind.

So do you always feel you need 15 players that definitely start or what is your cut off between 11 and 15?
Only having 11 is very risky but I got away with it for large parts of the season and it obviously allows those 11 to be stronger.

        1. AB.
          • 14 Years
          6 years, 11 months ago

I never pick a player who is unlikely to start. There are enough injuries, suspensions, rotations etc through the year to juggle without worrying about non-starters too!

    2. Pierce34
      • 8 Years
      6 years, 11 months ago

I agree it was a 3-5-2 year overall. We had the Liverpool mids in the first half of the season, then the Spurs double-up later on and the emergence of King.

Despite all that, I've been quite successful with mostly a 3-4-3 (24 times compared to 9 times for a 3-5-2). This is because of a combination of luck with my 3rd striker (I timed Benteke and even Gray quite well in my team), and spending mid-season with 3 big hitters - Costa, Ibra, Kane, who later became Costa, Lukaku, Kane.

      1. Pierce34
        • 8 Years
        6 years, 11 months ago

The key is to have flexibility - and by that, I don't mean a benching headache every week, but the ability to switch between 3-4-3 and 3-5-2 in 2 transfers if the need arises.

E.g. the big hitters to begin with were Aguero and Ibra, and even Costa, later that switched to needing both Sanchez and Hazard in your team. Being able to adapt is key - even if I didn't time owning Hazard well, it was still a right decision to adapt my team to fit him in.

      2. Albrightondknight

        6 years, 11 months ago

If you timed Gray right you must be 1 in about 4 million.
        I did 352 about 30 times.
My 2 tries at 442 averaged 82, I will put that down to a statistical blip.

        1. Pierce34
          • 8 Years
          6 years, 11 months ago

Yeah that was definitely luck. He got me a goal and assist over 2 matches, then I quickly shipped him. Benteke was in my team for 7 gameweeks, and these were the only '3rd strikers' I ever used in a 3-4-3.

Apart from that, it was always 3 big hitters up front, or 3-5-2.

    3. noquarternt
      • 8 Years
      6 years, 11 months ago

Disagree. I've played 433 for the majority of the year and have got my highest ever rank(currently 5k) Premium defenders are ridiculously underrated here. I had Alonso Kosc Rose and Brunt when all were picking up 8+ a week yet few took notice. The pricing also allows for your fave 3 premium mids (Hazard Sanchez + Allí/Coutinho etc) 2 premium strikers and whoever the popular 3rd choice striker is. People asking for differentials have them right in front of them. Imagine going this season with 2 or 3 of Azp Alonso and Cahill...

      1. Pierce34
        • 8 Years
        6 years, 11 months ago

This is an interesting approach that proves there's no correct answer to the question. For example, you'd have been burned if you had 2 Chelsea defenders during their 8 game streak (or whatever that was) of no clean sheets a few weeks ago. Same for the beginning of the season if you expected, say, Alderweireld to score big.

As cliche as it sounds, the right answer is that it's all about timing.

Yeah very true. Just got to try and fit in all the players that are firing. King has made everything easy towards the end of the season, gives so much cash people can choose who they like. The big problem is when all the expensive options are returning.

Actually when you look at points per million this makes a lot of sense re 4 defenders.
However I would say 442 with the 2 being big hitters who are always captain material hence negating price per million problem.

The expensive defenders got to deliver though. Bellerin a huge disappointment this year for instance.

True but it doesn't take much to switch. I had Valencia and Shaw to start the season with when most were picking one or the other. Fairly easy to switch to whoever was starting to keep cleanies.

Guys do you think John Terry will start against Sunderland ?

Conte says its a surprise. Not sure what to make of the statement

Guess that's the whole point of a surprise. As he's leaving, I would've thought he'd play.

It could. Or he'll be in for a cameo with the armband will be handed to him.

      I think he will.

Since Gabbi has been confirmed first choice penalty taker is it safe to assume he's also implying that he will remain as their starting striker?

No, he said "if he starts".

FWIW I may be forced to keep him. I own Tadic too so need to get rid of him for -4. Not feeling like taking further hits.

        2 Penalty misses in 3 GWs. 🙁

It's not certain according to this article:

      http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/15297558.Puel_confirms_first_choice_penalty_taker/?ref=rss

"However, Puel has faith in Gabbiadini and confirmed he will be on penalty duty again assuming he plays in the final game of the season against Stoke on Sunday. "

But I don't see what the other options are. Long confirmed out, and Puel said Austin won't start but is likely to get minutes.

        Thanks for that dude.

Redmond could play up front but I doubt it. Gabbi should be safe to start with Austin replacing him around 60'

Puel didn't say "Austin won't start". Did he? When asked about Austin he said "we will see".

I'm determined to take hits up to -i after seeing a top 1k team took at least a hit or two every gameweek.
I'm catching a 37 ponts diff so it'll be go big or go home. I'm doing this right, yes?

FPL is complicated enough without introducing complex numbers 🙂

I am drunk I think it's an imaginary number not complex
Hence the i bit for imaginary I suppose.

Basing your transfer policy on seeing a team that takes lots of hits doing well is a serious case of outcome bias I'd say. You don't see all the teams that take -8s every week that have shockers do you? You're probably not gonna make 37 points up, but if you don't care about OR, go for it as it's your last chance.

-4 with a sweet diff captain pick and lots of luck might have a better chance that a -8 imo. Depends how different the two teams are.

He has Zaha, Alli, Sane, Costa while I'm with Tadic(failed punt), Eriksen, KdB, Anichebe.

        His 3-4-3 against my 3-5-2.

Ok I still say -4. Obvious one to go are Anichebe and Tadic but does allow enough for Cout or whoever you were thinking of getting in. If not maybe go the -8
Or even -i but things could get complicated.

Genuinely thought fpl could take romans.

The only option for -4 is to downgrade Alonso > Lovren to enable Tadic > Coutinho.

Tadic > Siggy is the only free transfer I could think of (Me with 0.9ITB while him with 0.2).

He could probably could drop Alli to Coutinho unfortunately.

When is the last time the same Pool Mid performed 2 weeks in a row? I would go to Siggy for free at least you are not extending the lead before the week starts. It's a diff and a decent one- exactly what you need.

                Messed up that last bit.
Seems like the free transfer is the most possible move I'll be doing. Cheers.

Chasing a 3 point lead. Opponent has Alli. I have Alli and Eriksen. Who should i transfer out for Coutinho. Leaning towards Alli as Eriksen will probably feature against hull.

I have a feeling Chelsea will smash Sunderland 4 or 5 to 0. He will probably start and play till the 70th min so he must be involved in a goal or two. Just a hunch, nothing more.

That's my concern, but I wanted Coutinho and the only way to get him without hits is to ditch one of these two.

    A) Hazard -> Coutinho
    B) T.Caroll + Jesus -> Coutinho + Crouch (-4)

    Current :
    Cab
    Kompany Monreal Alonso
    Hazard Sanchez Alli King
    Kane Costa Jesus
    (Japu Stephens T.Caroll Kingsley)

Alli + GAbbi to Coutinho + Vokes (-4)?

Have Hazard but want to keep him. Easy home game. Can do enough damage even if he gets only 45 minutes.
