The Dugout Discussion – Gameweek 38

The 2016/17 season comes to a close this afternoon, with all 10 Gameweek 38 matches getting underway at 3pm.

We’re spoilt for choice in terms of armband options for the final round of fixtures, with the top three players in this week’s Captain Poll – Alexis Sanchez, Harry Kane and Philippe Coutinho – are serving up their highest hauls of the season in Gameweek 37.

Kane’s four-goal blitz at the King Power takes him two ahead of his nearest challenger Romelu Lukaku for the Golden Boot, while Sanchez welcomes Everton on the back of three successive double-figure tallies.

Throw in champions Chelsea at home to relegated Sunderland (Eden Hazard and Diego Costa both start) and Man City’s trip to a decimated Watford defence and it’s fair to say that goals look very much on Sunday’s agenda.

So sit back and enjoy the frantic next couple of hours’ action – it won’t be until August 12 before domestic action comes back our way again.

    Difficult season but I am happy with 3.3k OR finish. Getting pretty consistent with top 10k finishes now.

    Mid June: Fixtures released, commence advanced Planning
    Mid July: New Game released, begin team building
    Mid August: Gw1 Begins

          Thnx, but the hysteria here before it opens is massive, those questions will drive you nuts. I somehow managed to get a 2 digit fpl ID this season when we all pressed F5 here 🙂

    Finished off with a nice score of 105 points and winner of my ML league. Scored 295 points over these last two gameweeks to claim first place.

    Looks like the FPL Crown was impacted by the Brunt/Evans/McAuley phantom goal.

    If McAuley had brushed his hair down that day instead of spiking it up, we would have a different FPL winner today.

    Absolutely scandalous.

      Lost $3k in one ML by 1 point. Lost another ML on total transfers after a tie on total points. Dropped out of top 10k for captaining Sanchez over Kane.

      Gutted.

      I'm probably should be happy but I'm not. Every effing season 50-50 decision goes wrong in GW 38. Benching Ramsey in Rambo season, Mata blank over Walcott hat-trick, Missing out on Giroud hat-trick, Siggy over Fabregas. Just can't get that 3-digit magical rank. It's like effing curse or something.

      Anyway many thanks to those who directly/indirectly contributed to my decisions. Congratulations to the winners. 🙂

        Broke that hoodoo myself today, though I know the feeling all too well. You're not alone. Next year is your season 🙂

        12/13: 1549 (Had a shocking start, 17 consecutive green arrows in the middle of the season, but fell from 1.2k in GW38)
        13/14: 232,273 (I always maintained that one of Suarez or Sturridge was enough)
        14/15: 5315 (I hovered around the 10k mark for most of the season, it was really strange how little my rank moved for the entire year. It seemed as though every good thing I did was offset by something going wrong)
        15/16: 1613 (Thanks Mike Smalling et al.)
        16/17: 877 (Almost captained Sanchez which would have cost me dearly)

        It's fine margins.

      I'd like to share few thoughts and thank the community for this season and some great advice. I've been playing FPL now regularly for five seasons and slowly beginning to realise what it's all about.

      Two seasons ago I finished outside the top 1k by two points (my best finish so far) and it hurt to get so close to what I had been trying to achieve. Last season was tough and couldn't catch a break (finished to about 160k). Now, this season almost everything and every decision went right straight from the beginning. Broke into top 1k for the first time in two years in the GW37. Final GW was nervy but after all happy to finally say that I've got that top 1k finish after getting OR 713. Sorry for the long and overly emotional post and thank you all for the season 16/17. See you next season! 🙂

      Not the greatest season (75k), but at 50k jump today with my best ever single GW with 123pts. Which makes it feel a great deal better than it was.

      This has been a good FPL season imo. Last season the template never really changed, but this season it's been possible to achieve success with different players and strategies.

      Personally it's been one to forget, with a disappointing 25k finish which wasn't what I was hoping for. I'm getting worse as the years pass.

      I'll log off until next season - thank for all advice and have a good summer everyone.
