I agree with changing how clean sheets are rewarded, ive suggested it before. One thing that would need to be considered by fpl is that defenders would then score a bit more overall. I would rather see 1 point for a 45 min clean sheet.

There has to be a cut off somewhere, and if you're not on for 60 mins then imo you haven't contributed enough to the cleansheet.

You seem to be the main person advocating these changes on here. Haven't seen it mentioned by anyone else.

Agree with you and want to add:
1pt for each player that his team won.
1pt for scoring the winning goal.

One of the big draws with FPL is it is a simplistic game. Having points for things like key contributions goes against that.

When certain 'casuals' pick their team they do so thinking "I'll have Aguero because he scores lots", not "I think I'll get Brunt, he's likely to get some key contributions".

Might also think of a way to reward players like Kante,Gueye,Herrera?

2) Is that an objective (opta) thing not already accounted for in bps (like key pass)? Otherwise will only create its own problems - what about about the kc assister of assister of assister of a goal...

3) Don't agree. Primary job of a defender is to defend against goals for the game. 60 minutes is debateable, let alone 30. Would also effect pricing. May be fairer to award CS to every defender who plays for CS team on final whistle, however many minutes played, but that would create it's own issues.

2) Not for me, it's I'll defined. I think we should be aiming to eradicate 'grey areas' - not add to them.
3) Yeah I'm in favour of something like this. It wouldn't actually increase defenders points scored by much at all...

For GKs and Defenders (ignoring appearance points):

Play less than 45 mins but maintain a clean sheet = 0 pts
Play more than 45 mins but less than 75 mins, but maintain a clean sheet in that period = 2pts
Play more than 75 mins and maintain a clean sheet in that period = 4pts

Changes should be made because they add value to the game, not because people express outrage because they don't know the rules

Partial award for any defender completing one half but less than 60 minutes where their team goes on to complete a CS. So, for example, a DF for DF at HT in a FT 0-0 would give both 2pts.

I really like 1 as an idea, think it really would add an added dimension to team planning...

Key contributions seems like a good idea, but could cause a lot of debate over decisions made by Opta

Get rid of the chips completely. 95% of us ended up playing our best chip on gw37. It's not really adding much to the game.

I'm not sure I want partial clean sheets when there are teams who are more likely to keep cs than others.

Quite like the AOA idea.

KCs...hmm...not sure I want any more ways of adding points in the game. I feel the bps are enough.

I'd like to see the game refreshed though. More ways to score points, changing the bonus points to reward defensive mids. Points for earning a penalty. Reward half points for players on your bench. Half point autosubs. Points for recovered balls. Bonus points for man of the match.
Football is also changing. Notice how few viable forwards there were this season. Too many are being classed as mids. Possibly should have an attacking mid slot. Now we see 3 at the back becoming quite common with wing backs.

1) I really like this idea, it puts more emphasis on defense for a week and encourages a balanced squad so that you have 5 playing defenders or at least have to plan to have 5 playing defenders for one week of the season.
2) Too complicated for the casual player, they don't even know what a KC is.
3) I agree that this would work but it is a rule which would only be relevant occasionally.

One thing I forgot to add ...

4) Reward players who score consecutive goals in a match.

So a striker would get 5 points for his second goal in a game and 6 points for his third goal ... And so on.

I think it is a better way to reward outstanding performances in a game.

The best changes would be nes that were just little tweaks. I wouldn't like to see anything other than CS, goals + assists personally - think it just overcomplicates a beautifully simplisitc game.

My main changes would be get rid of AoA- it's rubbish. Like the CS chip idea actually, it would definitely be an improvement.

I'm a strong advocate of making it so everyone gets 2 goes at the chips, similar to the WC. So all chips refresh in Jan. It would be great to be able to use all the chips in single GW at the start of the season rather than waiting until the end of the season.

I like the clean sheet chip idea.

Mentioned before but a new category [def mids] who are awarded 2 pts for a clean sheet and managers must have a minimum of one in each squad. This was in response to bringing more players into the game.

Remove points penalty for scoring an OG - bad luck
Subtract points for conceding a penalty - deliberate infringement

It's amazing that the game has gone on so long with these crazy rules!

I really like the Clean Sheet Chip idea. The big issue with the AOA chip is that it will rarely get you a huge amount of points, most people's 'bench' player is a cheapo for a good reason - they will rarely score big. You would have to be really lucky to gain more than a few points from using this chip.

It would be interesting to know what the highest, lowest and average point improvements from using each of these chips this season has been.

AOA is the only chip I like. It's simple, rarely worth it, and adds a strategic element to using it. The issue with AOA is that it's too insignificant when you can only use it once. Give us 2 AOA chips for the first half of the season and refresh it for the second half. Make it impossible to use it twice in a row so you can't build a team for using AOA two GWs in a row. I also think it should be playable after using a WC.

TC is incredibly boring. The only strategic element to TC is that BB is better used during a DGW, so you have to decide whether you want to waste your TC on the first possible opportunity, or save it for a DGW that might be crap. The only dynamic I like about TC is that it allows you to hit in a player for a single GW in order to maximize points from the chip.

BB is too strong and straight forward to utilize because of the WC and DGWs. Having two chips that are best used before DGWs kills strategic diversities. It's nice that BB promotes a different way of building the squad, but with DGWs guaranteed to happen every year it's pointless to have it in the game. If it could only be used for the first half of the season it would be fine, but I imagine loads of people would just use it in GW1. Making it time limited to December and January would be cool.

Assists:

1) Currently if Kane gets fouled for a pen and scores it, he gets just the goal. Could someone get both an assist and a goal?
2) Yoshida gets fouled and wins a penalty which is then missed - could Yoshi get an assist?

Even if nothing for the above two, perhaps extra BAPs of some kind?

One other - chips in each half of the season - would like a TC and BB in the first half - everyone would use it differently.

I'd love to go all out there and propose something radical (stay with me here). Other than GKs, why not only have two ways of differentiating point scoring: for defenders and for attackers - so no special dispensation for midfielders with CS points and so on.

BUT players can now have up to two categories. Kante would be "defender, midfielder" and can be deployed in either slot, but be scored as a defender. Sanchez would be "attacker, midfielder" and could be deployed in either category and would score as an attacker. This would instantly solve the wingback dilemma. You could field Alonso in either a midfield or a defender slot, but he'd be scored as a defender. So, if you wanted you could field an entire midfield full of defensive players who could rack up CS points, or an entire midfield of attacking players.

I suspect initially it wouldn't change much, but would create some interesting tactical choices around the 4th/5th mid slots. Want to chance a 6m with sporadic attacking points, or a Kante-like stopper who racks up CS points? You could play a cheap attacking mid as your 3rd attacker to free up a mid slot for a defensive mid.

I'm sure it's unworkable - but doesn't seem too overly complex for the casuals to grasp. If anything it makes the scoring more simple, it just creates some interesting tactical decisions.

Love points 1&3 as I think these would actually improve the game and make it fairer. Point 2 is adding more grey areas which I dont like. So many dodgy assist awards can you imagine all the KC calls everyone will be trying to claim one after every goal.

My suggestion would be to add a 'century chip'. You pick one player to stick it on and if that player scores a hatrick you automatically get 100 points for that player. Would give people hope who are losing ml by long way at the end of season. A way to keep them engaged longer. Its the hope that kills ya.

One I've always wanted and really think they should do. An extra point that stays for that CS on 60 mins would narrow the gap between keepers/defenders and the mids and fwds. It doesn't sound much but it balances the game up nicely (I did all the sums one year).

And one personal like.. Make the game two free transfers.

I like some of these ideas but there are issues which have been mentioned previously.

The Double defence chip I like actually, as it's sort of contrary to other offensive chips and will require skill and planning, great for us, but maybe no so much for the "casual".

My chip idea was a "superb". basically it removes your lowest point scorer in your team for an applicable highest point scorer off your bench.. but less tactical and more braindead..

in terms of Key Contributions, although I don't mind the concept it does open things up to interpretation. I'm not sure Opta do have this as a stat as such, and it really can and will cause more arguments when someone thinks a back heel in the box to a player should count as it was exceptional whilst others think a defence saving tackle that is the assist of the assist should count...

Partial cleanses I'm not keen on personally. What COULD be done though is similar to what they do in sky. Get the CS points for minutes played, keep it at 60, but even those subbed only get the points if the team go on to keep a clean for the entire game... removes that random 6 point haul for someone who was deemed expendable to be subbed

Best change would be something to encourage more transfers as current setup is too stagnant imo. Specifically I'd reduce 4pt hit to a 2pt hit or alternatively give two free transfers each gameweek. I honestly feel this would allow managers more freedom to manage instead of being heavily penalised for altering your team.
